Singapore (i/ˈsɪŋɡəpɔːr/), officially the Republic of Singapore, and often referred to as the Lion City, the Garden City, and the Red Dot, is a global city in Southeast Asia and the world's only island city-state. It lies one degree (137 km) north of the equator, at the southernmost tip of continental Asia and peninsular Malaysia, with Indonesia's Riau Islands to the south. Singapore's territory consists of the diamond-shaped main island and 62 islets. Since independence, extensive land reclamation has increased its total size by 23% (130 km2), and its greening policy has covered the densely populated island with tropical flora, parks and gardens.
The islands were settled from the second century AD by a series of local empires. In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles founded modern Singapore as a trading post of the East India Company; after the company collapsed, the islands were ceded to Britain and became part of its Straits Settlements in 1826. During World War II, Singapore was occupied by Japan. It gained independence from Britain in 1963, by uniting with other former British territories to form Malaysia, but was expelled two years later over ideological differences. After early years of turbulence, and despite lacking natural resources and a hinterland, the nation developed rapidly as an Asian tiger economy, based on external trade and its human capital.

On 15 December 2010, Singapore Airlines was named by the International Air Transport Association as the second largest airline in the world by market capitalisation, worth of 14 billion US dollars. Singapore Airlines utilises the Singapore Girl as its central figure in its corporate branding. The airline is also regarded as a Singaporean national symbol and icon.

Smart Nation is Singapore's national vision of using technology to improve lives and business. It takes its name and inspiration from the concept of a smart city taken to a countrywide scale.
The Smart Nations Global Initiative, initiated by Dr. Azamat Abdoullaev gives an overview of the current developments on a global scale.
The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) aims for Singapore to be the first Smart Nation.
Singapore has set up a national-level coordinating agency, called the Smart Nation Programme Office, to lead its Smart Nation project. The Office is led by a cabinet minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Singapore's Smart Nation concept builds on the achievements of its earlier Intelligent Nation 2015 masterplan.

Watch Ep.1: "How To Book A Flight" here: https://youtu.be/gNf2wKspJQQ One of the biggest worries of novice travellers is how to catch a connecting flight. Once you check in at your original destination they will print you out your separate tickets for each connecting flight. You can also double check with the check in staff that your luggage will be going to your final destination. Always check before departing that you don’t need a transit visa for a connecting country Once you disembark the aircraft, simply follow the signs for connections/departure lounge. If you have already been given all your tickets for each leg of the journey, you do not need to re-check in at your connecting airports. Just simply walk straight to the departure lounge. There are normally signs pointing passen...

In Singapore there are almost as many smartphones as there are people. 90% of the population of the South-East Asian city-state owns a smartphone - a higher proportion than any other country in the world. But for Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, this isn't enough. Lee has tasked one government agency, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), with transforming Singapore into the world's first "smart nation" and bring about a vision referred to as E3A: "Connecting everyone to everything, everywhere, all the time." Travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore city centres in only 1.5 hours! This WEBEO explores the possibilities of a high speed railway line connecting Malaysia’s capital with the financial hub of Singapore in only 1 hour and 30 minutes on trains travelling at speeds up to 350 km/h. The two cities have the potential to connect into one economic zone, but currently no high-speed line links the urban and rural communities into a unified link. This project aims to boost the economies of the two global cities and spur development in satellite towns across southeast Malaysia. The line is mostly 2-track brand new segment, on a mixture of viaducts and ground-level segments. In Kuala Lumpur, high-speed trains will replace the KLIA express and will operate on their tracks at speeds of 250 km/h. S...

PLAN YOUR SINGAPORE VACATION The main island of Singapore is shaped like a flattened diamond, 42 km (26 miles) east to west and 23 km (14 miles) north to south. Near the northern peak is the causeway leading to West Malaysia—Kuala Lumpur is less than four hours away by car. It is at the southern foot where you will find most of the city-state’s action, with its gleaming office towers, working docks, and futuristic "supertrees," which are solar-powered and serve as vertical gardens. Offshore are Sentosa and over 60 smaller islands, most uninhabited, that serve as bases for oil refining or as playgrounds and beach escapes from the city. To the east is Changi International Airport, connected to the city by metro, bus, and a tree-lined parkway. Of the island's total land area, more than half ...

Travel video about destination Singapore. Singapore is a city of gardens and the heart of South East Asia. Its history began in 1819 with Thomas Stamford Raffles, a young official who worked for the British East India Company. Raffles estimated that the natural harbor was perfect for trading ships, so he bought the land from the Sultan of Johor and founded a trading settlement. As a free port, Singapore attracted trading ships from all over the world and today, 4 million people live here on an area that covers 640 square kilometres. In June each year, there is an exciting boat race in Marina Bay known as the Dragon Boat Race, that features magnificently painted dragon boats with hand-carved heads and tails accompanied by the sound of frenetic drumbeats. Dating back to colonial times, Br...

Travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore city centres in only 1.5 hours! S...

The tour begins with us arriving at the airport from another Asian destination and walking off the aircraft into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). We then begin a tour of the entire two levels of this airport building. In this trip report, we have a look at the NEW Singapore Airlines First Class product aboard a Boeing 777-300 ER flight between Singapore and Melbourne. We first start off by arriving at an exclusive First class check-in terminal at Singapore Changi airport. This special terminal provides a private and personalised check-in service that expedites you through immigration and into the SilverKris Lounge complex. We soon gain entry to The Private Lounge where we look at the a la carte and buffet dining experience. While I'm there, I take a shower to freshen up and look at the general ambiance of the lounge. First class passengers get priority boarding and board the aircraft via a separate jetbridge. On board, I notice that the B777 has the NEW First Class "mini-suite" seat, which I found to ...

Singapore is at the leading edge of global smart city initiatives and is a good deal of the way along the path to truly transforming the “city nation” for the benefit of its citizens and the redefinition of its government. Everything is on the table for reinvention in Singapore from smart transportation to smart energy to smart buildings to how its citizens receive smarter healthcare. But what is a “smart city”? A smart city uses technology to deliver services, uses technology to reduce costs for service providers and uses technology to allow citizens to improve the running of the city. With sensors planted measuring everything from traffic to street lights, Singapore has deep insights into the lessons in IoT deployment and delivery on a truly large scale. On October 13th, 2016 at the ...

This video is property of Train_PlaneHub, "RachaelMatt" 2160p 4K HD! After a fantastic week in Singapore it was time to head back to Beijing, but this time we were actually staying in China, not just on a short layover. This was the morning Air China flight, connecting the two cities, which I chose purposely so I could get some footage in the daylight. Despite a screaming child ruining most of the take off, the views as we climb out of Changi airport are spectacular! We then climbed up to 35,000ft and continued north into the South China Sea before passing over the top of Hong Kong and into China. Our approach took us around Beijing, passing the airport which you can see and heading north of the city over the hills before turning back. Look out for the Great Wall of China which is visi...
