The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. The U.S. Navy is the largest, most capable navy in the world, with the highest combined battle fleet tonnage. The U.S. Navy has the world's largest aircraft carrier fleet, with ten in service, two in the reserve fleet, and three new carriers under construction. The service has 328,194 personnel on active duty and 101,199 in the Navy Reserve. It has 272 deployable combat vessels and more than 3,700 aircraft in active service as of February 2016.
The U.S. Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which was established during the American Revolutionary War and was essentially disbanded as a separate entity shortly thereafter. It played a major role in the American Civil War by blockading the Confederacy and seizing control of its rivers. It played the central role in the World War II defeat of Japan. The 21st century U.S. Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in such areas as East Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It is a blue-water navy with the ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it an active player in U.S. foreign and defense policy.
A navy or maritime force is a fleet of waterborne military vessels (watercraft) and its associated naval aviation, both sea-based and land-based. It is the branch of a nation's armed forces principally designated for naval and amphibious warfare; namely, lake-borne, riverine, littoral, or ocean-borne combat operations and related functions. It includes anything conducted by surface ships, amphibious ships, submarines, and seaborne aviation, as well as ancillary support, communications, training, and other fields; recent developments have included space-related operations. The strategic offensive role of a navy is projection of force into areas beyond a country's shores (for example, to protect sea-lanes, ferry troops, or attack other navies, ports, or shore installations). The strategic defensive purpose of a navy is to frustrate seaborne projection-of-force by enemies. The strategic task of the navy also may incorporate nuclear deterrence by use of Submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Naval operations can be broadly divided between riverine and littoral applications (brown-water navy), open-ocean applications (blue-water navy), and something in between (green-water navy), although these distinctions are more about strategic scope than tactical or operational division.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major territories and various possessions. The 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. At 3.8 million square miles (9.842 million km2) and with over 320 million people, the country is the world's third or fourth-largest by total area and the third most populous. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of the United States are also extremely diverse, and the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Southern Ocean (or, depending on definition, to Antarctica) in the south and is bounded by Asia and Australia in the west and the Americas in the east.
At 165.25 million square kilometers (63.8 million square miles) in area, this largest division of the World Ocean—and, in turn, the hydrosphere—covers about 46% of the Earth's water surface and about one-third of its total surface area, making it larger than all of the Earth's land area combined.
The equator subdivides it into the North Pacific Ocean and South Pacific Ocean, with two exceptions: the Galápagos and Gilbert Islands, while straddling the equator, are deemed wholly within the South Pacific. The Mariana Trench in the western North Pacific is the deepest point in the world, reaching a depth of 10,911 metres (35,797 ft).
The eastern Pacific Ocean was first sighted by Europeans in the early 16th century when Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa crossed the Isthmus of Panama in 1513 and discovered the great "southern sea" which he named Mar del Sur. The ocean's current name was coined by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during the Spanish circumnavigation of the world in 1521, as he encountered favourable winds on reaching the ocean. He called it Mar Pacifico, which in both Portuguese and Spanish means "peaceful sea".
Special forces and special operations forces are military units trained to perform unconventional missions. Special forces, as they would now be recognised, emerged in the early 20th century, with a significant growth in the field during the Second World War.
Depending on the country, special forces may perform some of the following functions: airborne operations, counter-insurgency, "counter-terrorism", covert ops, direct action, hostage rescue, high-value targets/manhunting, intelligence operations, mobility operations, and unconventional warfare. The term “special forces” in the US refers to the US Army's forces while the term “special operation forces” refers to all units. In Russian-speaking countries special forces are typically called spetsnaz, an acronym for "special purpose". Likewise Russian speakers refer to special forces of other nations as spetsnaz, for example US Special Forces would be referred to as Amerikanski spetsnaz in Russian.

The latest military news : The Navy has now placed it first three unit orders for a Raytheon-built AN/SPY-6(V) radar, a system reported by developers to be 35-times more powerful than existing ship-based radar systems; the technology is widely regarded as being able to detect objects twice as far away at one-half the size of current tracking radar. The Navy has nearly finished design work on a fleet of high-tech ,newly-engineered guided missile destroyers intended to accommodate emerging weapons such as lasers, railguns and advanced radar able to detect attacking anti-ship cruise missiles from more than twice the distance, service officials said. The Nimitz-class supercarriers are a class of ten nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in service with the United States Navy. The lead ship of the class is named for World War II United States Pacific Fleet commander Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the U.S. Navy's last fleet admiral. With an overall length of 1,092 ft (333 m) and full-load displacements of over 100,000 long tons, they have been the largest warships built and in service, although they are being eclipsed by the upcoming Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Instead of the gas turbines or diesel-electric systems used for propulsion on many modern warships, the carriers use two A4W pressurized water reactors which drive four propeller shafts and can produce a maximum speed of over 30 knots (56 km/h) and maximum power of aroun...
The Future of Undersea Warfare, The Virginia class, also known as the SSN-774 class, is a class of nuclear-powered fast attack #submarines (hull classification symbol SSN) in service with the United States Navy. The submarines are designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral (shallow coastal water) missions. They were conceived as a less expensive alternative to the Seawolf-class attack submarines, designed during the Cold War era. They are replacing older Los Angeles-class submarines, many of which have already been decommissioned. Virginia-class submarines will be acquired through 2043, and are expected to remain in service past 2060. Based on recent updates to the designs, some of the Virginia-class submarines are expected to still be in service in 2070. Video link: https:/...

Directed by Jerry Hartleben, who's had a long career as a documentary filmmaker, and shot by award winning cinematographer Conrad Buff, "Down to the Wire" is a portrait of naval aviation cadets struggling to receive their carrier wings circa 1970. To become qualified as a carrier jet pilot, a variety of tasks must be mastered from "touch-and-go's" on land to that first hairy carrier landing at sea. The famed Essex class carrier USS Lexington (CV/CVA/CVS/CVT/AVT-16), known as "The Blue Ghost", appears in the film. By the end of the film, these cadets are on their way to earning their Naval Aviator ratings. The aircraft shown in the film are the North American T-2 Buckeye. They were the United States Navy's intermediate training aircraft, intended to introduce U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corp...

Made in the late 1960s by Wilding, this U.S. Navy recruiting film "BENEATH NAVY WINGS" begins with an anti-submarine warfare exercise. At :41, an enemy submarine is seen on the surface of the ocean. Above it flies a Lockheed P-2 Neptune, Maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The airplane prepares to make a sonobuoy run and successfully locates the hostile boat. Later, at 2:40, in the scenario that unfolds over the course of the film, the crew of the Neptune tries to return to base but suffers a mechanical issue -- their forward landing gear won't come down. At 4:10, the crew makes a low pass over a U.S. Navy control tower (staffed by a female air traffic controller). The controller verifies that the forward landing gear won't come down. Then, in a scene reminiscent of "Dr. ...

The film was shot at the Naval Station Great Lakes (NAVSTA Great Lakes), which is still the home of the United States Navy's only boot camp, located near North Chicago, in Lake County, Illinois. ...
Produced in the 1950s, THE NAVY WAY was one of many films created by the service to instill a moral backbone in service personnel as part of an overall Navy Moral Standards and Character Education Program. The target for this film appears to be officers charged with leadership, who needed to deal with the attitudes, mixed backgrounds, and lack of motivation by blue jackets. With so many of the men in service having only a high school education, films like this one attempted to show officers how they can shape men, and how to convince them that patience, study, and discipline can lead to a better life and career in service, and better morale. The film shows two different leadership styles and how one, the paternalistic officer, triumphs over the other. The film includes an extended "leave...
