The Deep South is a descriptive category of the cultural and geographic subregions in the Southern United States. Historically, it is differentiated from the "Upper South" as being the states most dependent on plantation-type agriculture and slavery during the pre–Civil War period. The Deep South was also commonly referred to as the Lower South or the Cotton States. Before the out-migrations at the first half of the 20th century, African-descended peoples comprised the majority of the population in numerous areas and some states. Today, the Deep South is usually delineated as being those states and areas where cultural elements most often thought of as "Southern" exist in their most concentrated form.
The term "Deep South" is defined in a variety of ways:
Joshua Otis "Josh" Turner (born November 20, 1977) is an American contemporary country music singer and actor. In 2003, he signed to MCA Nashville Records. That same year, his debut album's title track, "Long Black Train", was his breakthrough single release. His second album, Your Man (2006) accounted for his first two number one hits: "Your Man" and "Would You Go with Me," while 2007's Everything Is Fine included a No. 2 in "Firecracker." Haywire, released in 2010, produced his biggest hit, the No. 1 "Why Don't We Just Dance" and another number one in "All Over Me". It was followed by Punching Bag (2012), whose lead-off single "Time Is Love" was the biggest hit of 2012 according to Billboard Year-End.
Turner was raised in Hannah, South Carolina. His parents are both of English ancestry. Growing up in the church, he founded a gospel quartet called Thankful Hearts, where he sang bass, in addition to singing the bass and baritone parts in choirs.
In 1996, Turner developed a lesion on his right vocal cord. Turner was examined by the Vanderbilt voice clinic, where doctors advised him to let it heal on its own. Surgery was not needed, but he did have to rest his voice for a year. While Turner rested his voice back at home, he learned classical vocal technique and how to take care of his voice and avoid developing further problems. Turner states that he "learned how to whistle really well during that year."
South is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. It is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. South is the polar opposite of north and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word south comes from Old English sūþ, from earlier Proto-Germanic *sunþaz ("south"), possibly related to the same Proto-Indo-European root that the word sun derived from.
By convention, the bottom side of a map is south, although reversed maps exist that defy this convention. To go south using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 180°. Alternatively, in the Northern Hemisphere outside the tropics, the Sun will be roughly in the south at midday.
True south is the direction towards the southern end of the axis about which the earth rotates, called the South Pole. The South Pole is located in Antarctica. Magnetic south is the direction towards the south magnetic pole, some distance away from the south geographic pole.
Roald Amundsen, from Norway, was the first to reach the South Pole, on 14 December 1911, after Ernest Shackleton from the UK was forced to turn back some distance short.
Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English comedian, actor, writer, presenter and activist.
After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from two schools and spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, Fry secured a place at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature. While at university, he became involved with the Cambridge Footlights, where he met his long-time collaborator Hugh Laurie. As half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and also took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.
Fry's acting roles include a Golden Globe Award–nominated lead performance in the film Wilde, Melchett in the BBC television series Blackadder, the title character in the television series Kingdom, a recurring guest role as Dr Gordon Wyatt on the crime series Bones, and as Gordon Deitrich in the dystopian thriller V for Vendetta. He has also written and presented several documentary series, including the Emmy Award–winning Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, which saw him explore his bipolar disorder, and the travel series Stephen Fry in America. He is also the long-time host of the BBC television quiz show QI.
A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

Stephen Fry in America is a six part BBC television series in which Stephen Fry travels across the United States of America, a country in which he was almost born. Just before Fry was born, his father was offered a job at Princeton University, in New Jersey, but chose to turn it down in favour of Hampstead. In the six-part series he travels, mostly in a London cab, through all 50 U.S. states. Episode 02 Stephen Fry tries to find out what makes the South so distinctive.
Yep, we stopped at a cemetery. There is so much history there, people who lived a long time ago, and now for a brief second they get attention again. Think of the funerals more than 100 years ago, horse drawn wagon, people gathered around feeling the loss, who were these people, what was their life like back then deep in the South. The US south is a complex place, no doubt for many the history was one of pain, slavery, wars and the hardship of living where even the weather with heat, hurricanes and floods challenged early settlers. Beautiful scenery as we left the main interstate and drove some back roads deep in the South. music by Artist: Kämmerer Title: Sweet easy solipsism Title: Introspection Title: Reconstruct the deconstruct
Bun B is a Houston-based MC, activist, and Rice University lecturer, who makes up one half of the legendary rap duo U.G.K. that’s credited with pioneering the sound of Southern hip hop. He’s also VICE’s newest political correspondent, covering the garish and unpredictable rockfight that is the 2016 presidential race. This week, we sent him to join the traveling circus in South Carolina, where Donald Trump is expected to win the Republican primary on Saturday. For a two days, he immersed himself in the state’s red-meat brand of conservative politics, talking to the Tea Partiers, Trump supporters, and GOP presidential candidates to find out what’s really going on in the lead up to the first Southern primary vote of 2016. On the way he takes in a gospel service and blues session on a porch, and meets a Chinese store owner with a deep Mississippi drawl.

The South has traditionally shown the strongest instances and rules favoring racism against Blacks and Hispanics.[2][3] The Southern ethnic heritage is diverse.[4] The central factor has been the consequence of plantation dependence on slave labor; the presence of a la...

This is a documentary about the road trip we, as three Dutch liberal friends with a political appetite, took to the USA's Deep South in March 2017. By interviewing ordinary people from all walks of life, we found out how the country and its people think in the age of a Trump presidency - and how that relates to our European home. I was born in the south
Given to a town raised on handsome mouth
Born on the same day as the sun
Holding in the Earth, seen one by one
A dot in the cold, waiting to rot
Frozen like stone, all is for not
All that I am is churning inside
All that I am is screaming...
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
I feel it in my skin
Coming undone again and again
Torn at the seam my heart is sewn
Holding back the tears she'd on my own
If dying is bold, then courage I've got
I could grow old, but I forgot
All that I am is churning inside
The voice in my head is screaming...
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
I was born in the south
Given to a town raised on handsome mouth
Born on the same day as the sun
Counting every heart beat one by one
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
Go and get my bones
Bring 'em to the deep south
Oh yeah somewhere they can thaw out
Here in the deep south
