MARKET REPORT: Pizza chain Franco Manca's sales boost fails to satisfy investors as owner's shares fall 5.3%
Fulham Shore, which owns the pizza chain alongside The Real Greek, dipped after admitting it was still experiencing a sales slowdown in its London restaurants. The restaurant developer said volatility in the market and cannibalisation from newer restaurants in nearby locations had hit sales across its branches in the capital's suburbs - though trading improved slightly on the poor summer period.
MONEY NEWS & ADVICE
Millions of Britons suffer 'mid-life savings crisis' in run-up to retirement, with many having no clue how much they need
Nearly a fifth of workers in their 50s and 60s are going through a 'mid-life savings crisis' in the run up to their retirement. Eighteen per cent of workers in this age group are unable to save anything for their retirement, as the cost of living continues to rise and wage growth stumbles. While some can't save anything at all for their older years, 64 per cent of people in their 50s are not seeing their pension savings rise during these crucial years.
MINOR INVESTOR: The easy route to passive investing and some funds to use
A lot has been written about passive investing, its simplicity and its merits but just how simple can you make it? The problem is that while it likes to promote its simplicity, passive investing can be confusing and acronym heavy. It's no wonder people prefer active funds that describe better what they do.
House prices stall for first time in nearly five years as falling values in London drag down national average
House prices were flat for the first time in nearly five years during the last three months, according to the latest influential monthly Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors survey. The most unsafe new car on sale today revealed: Fiat Punto scores ZERO stars in Euro NCAP crash tests - the first to achieve such a low rating in 20 years
The Fiat Punto, a new car you can buy from a UK showroom today, has been awarded the lowest crash test rating of all time, according to new assessments. Not a single model has received a zero-star rating since Euro NCAP started crash testing cars in 1997 - and the Punto has fallen foul of safety measures improving over the many years it has been on sale.
ASK TONY: O2 said I could cut my monthly phone bill from £19 to £17 by switching to a new tariff - but it soared to £700!
I was paying mobile phone network provider O2 £19 a month for a contract, which included unlimited minutes. I was told I could reduce the cost to £17 a month for 1,000 minutes, which, it estimated, would be adequate for our use. But we ended up with huge bills. O2 offered me another agreement with unlimited minutes for £20 per month.
My adviser charges nearly £3k a year to help invest a pension worth £200k - is that a fair price?
On reaching 65 in May 2015, I had a meeting with my financial adviser with a view to investing my private pension which amounted to just under £200,000. During our meeting I was advised the annual management charge would be 1.54% which sounded reasonable but after adding it up, it amounted to nearly £3,000 a year. Could you please advise if the management charges sound fair and if not are you able to suggest any alternatives.
