Phil Cunningham may refer to:
New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980, currently consisting of founding members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert, alongside Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman. The band was formed in 1980 by Sumner (vocals, guitars, keyboards and synthesisers), ex member Peter Hook (bass and vocals) and Morris (drums, electronic drums, keyboards and synthesizers) – the remaining members of post-punk group Joy Division, following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis – with the addition of Gilbert (keyboards, synthesizers and guitars).
By combining post-punk with an increasing influence from electronic dance music, New Order became one of the most critically acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s. Though the band's early years were shadowed by the legacy and basic sound of Joy Division, their experience of the early 1980s New York City club scene increased their knowledge of dance music and helped them incorporate elements of that style into their work. The band's 1983 hit "Blue Monday", the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, is one example of how the band's sound became increasingly upbeat and electronic.
Aly Bain MBE (born 15 May 1946 in Lerwick, Shetland, Scotland) is a Scottish fiddler who learned his instrument from the old-time master Tom Anderson.
In the early years of his career, he was—briefly and unofficially—part of the band The Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty, Billy Connolly and Tam Harvey. In 1967, he was a member of the Shetland-based band Gordon Hank and the Country Ramblers, with Gordon Smith, Ian Stewart and Jack Robertson.
He became nationally prominent as a founding member of The Boys of the Lough, a Scots-Irish folk group, with whom he played for over 30 years.
Simultaneously, Bain pursued a solo career in collaborative and television projects with Pelicula Films director Mike Alexander and producer Douglas Eadie, working on several international television series: The Down home Recordings, The Shetland Sessions, Aly Meets The Cajuns, and six series of the Transatlantic Sessions.
Since the early eighties, Bain has regularly collaborated and recorded with prominent, international musicians, including: Jerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, Mark O'Connor, Jay Ungar, Mary Black, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Dan Tyminski, Rosanne Cash, James Taylor, Eddi Reader, Paul Brady, Darrell Scott, Michael Doucet, Martha Wainwright, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, John Martyn, Danny Thompson, Iris DeMent, Karen Matheson, Karan Casey, Donal Lunny, Joan Osborne, Allison Moorer, Bruce Molsky and Allan MacDonald, bringing traditional music to a wider audience.
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band consisted of singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.
Formed by Sumner and Hook after the two attended a Sex Pistols gig, Joy Division moved beyond their punk roots to develop a sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed the group to his independent label, Factory Records. Joy Division's debut album, Unknown Pleasures, recorded with producer Martin Hannett, was released in 1979 to critical acclaim. As the band's popularity grew, Curtis, who suffered from personal problems that included severe depression, a failing marriage, and epilepsy, found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, during which he occasionally collapsed into seizures.
Bernard Edward Sumner (born 4 January 1956), also known as Bernard Albrecht, is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He was a founding member of both Joy Division and New Order, and is widely credited with the latter band's move towards electronica and synthpop, not forgetting their original post-punk roots.
Sumner is widely credited in advancing UK dance music and the popularisation and technological advancement of sequencers. Despite his influential status, he remains a reticent character who rarely gives interviews. In the early 1990s he recorded with Johnny Marr as Electronic.
Sumner was a founding member of Joy Division, a post-punk band formed in 1976. The band is widely considered one of the most influential bands of the era. Primarily known as the band's lead guitarist (his main guitars were a Gibson SG and a Shergold Custom Masquerader), Sumner also played keyboards for synth parts and made his first vocal appearance on record singing the chorus of "They Walked In Line" on the Warsaw album. In May 1980, the band's vocalist, Ian Curtis, committed suicide, resulting in Joy Division's end.

"Crystal" is a song by the English rock band New Order. It was released in August 2001 as the first single from their seventh album Get Ready. The song entered the UK charts at number 8, attracting considerable attention and praise as the band's comeback single, their first since 1993: on release Joe Tangari of Pitchfork Media called the song as "possibly one of New Order's best singles". Drowned in Sound rated it a 9/10 and described it as "fantastic" and the "confident, strutting return of a band that knows that the music industry has missed it." It is one of the band's fastest and most guitar-orientated singles. The song is notable for a remix contest in which there were thousands of entries around the world. It appears as the first track on the album in a slightly different version, wi...

This is the original vinyl LP mix of the first Shadowfax album. Most of us are familiar with the reissued remixed version put out years later by Windham Hill records. Most would agree that the remixed version is superior as the band were inexperienced in recording in the studio and on some tracks threw in everything (through overdubs) including the kitchen sink, resulting in quite a cluttered sound at times. Most of what was removed or mixed out in the Windham Hill edition, were percussion overdubs, resulting in a more open, clean sound. In speaking with founding member Stu Nevitt years ago, although it was his percussion overdubs that were largely mixed out ,he agreed that the remixed version resulted in a much improved album. There is one brief musical passage though that was totally eli...
