Shudder to Think's "Ten Spot" back on LP 1/19

On January 19th, we'll be reissuing Shudder to Think's Ten Spot on LP. Originally released in 1990 and long out of print, this was the band's second album and first record on Dischord. This pressing of Ten Spot is on blue vinyl and has been remastered from the original tapes. It's available for pre-order now via the Dischord website and Bandcamp page.


Fred Smith Dies at 55

We are saddened to learn of the murder of our friend Fred Smith, also known as FREAK. He was 55 years old. Fred was the guitarist in Beefeater -- who released two albums on Dischord during the mid '80s -- and later went on to perform in Strange Boutique and, after moving to Los Angeles, a number of other bands. Chain & the Gang's "Experimental Music" out 9/29 on Radical Elite

Ian Svenonius' Chain & the Gang will release a new album, Experimental Music, this fall on Radical Elite Records. The session was recorded live to four track at World Class Tapes in Ann Arbor, MI and features contributions from members of Tyvek and the Gories.

The EFFECTS' debut LP "Eyes to the Light" out September 29th on LP/CD/Digital

This fall, Dischord will release Eyes to the Light, the debut album by Washington, D.C. trio, the EFFECTS. Formed in 2014, the EFFECTS are Devin Ocampo (Faraquet, Medications), Matthew Dowling, and David Rich. The record includes 9 songs recorded and mixed last year with J. Robbins at Magpie Cage in Baltimore, Maryland and will be out on CD/LP/Digital September 29th. You can pre-order it now via the Dischord website and also through Bandcamp. The band will be playing dates throughout the East Coast and Midwest this fall.


Scream to tour UK in August

In August, Scream will travel to the UK for a handful of shows, including stops in London, Leeds, and Blackpool. This will be the classic lineup featuring Pete Stahl, Franz Stahl, Skeeter Thompson, and Kent Stax with additional guitarist Clint Walsh. You can find the complete date and venue information on our tours page. It's also worth noting that the band's final full length, Fumble, is back in stock on LP. This current pressing is on black vinyl.


The Make-Up to Reunite for Shows This Spring

This spring, The Make-Up will reunite for a series of performances at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Spain and Porto, Portugal. Before the band heads overseas, they'll also perform a warm up gig at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. These will be The Make-Up's first shows since 2013.


Channels’ “Backpfeifengesicht” b/w “Airstrip 1” out 1/20

Channels – J. Robbins, Janet Morgan, and Darren Zentek -- have recently reactivated and will release a new two-song digital single on January 20th. Formed in 2003, the trio completed an EP and a full-length record before going on indefinite hiatus. “Backpfeifengesicht” and “Airstrip 1” are the first new music recorded by the band in nearly 10 years. The single will be available via Bandcamp, iTunes, and directly from the Dischord website. Artwork comes courtesy of Ryan Nelson.


Lungfish’s “Rainbows From Atoms” Back on LP 11/18

On November 18th, we will reissue Lungfish's second full-length, Rainbows From, on LP. Originally released in 1993, the album was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara. Long out of print, this version has been remastered for vinyl by TJ Lipple. At the time of this recording, Lungfish was Daniel Higgs, Asa Osborne, John Chriest, and Mitchell Feldstein. You can pre-order the record here and also through the Dischord Bandcamp page.


Internship Opportunity at The Dischord Records Archive Project

The Dischord Records Archive Project is looking for an intern for assistance in preserving, cataloguing and creating finding aids for manuscript collections. The collections include manuscript, photographic and audio-visual material that document the work of Dischord Records and punk in the D.C. area. Recent graduates in library science, archival studies and students who need to complete a practicum as part of their degree program are especially encouraged to apply. All work will be completed in collaboration with a professional archivist and you must live in the D.C. area, and be available on weekdays to be considered. Dischord Records was created in 1980 to document the music coming out of the Washington, D.C. punk community. The label has put out the work of over 60 bands, and has distributed hundreds of other releases connected to the D.C. area.
