Grazing is a method of feeding in which a herbivore feeds on plants such as grasses, or other multicellular organisms such as algae. In agriculture, grazing is one method used whereby domestic livestock are used to convert grass and other forage into meat, milk and other products.
Many small selective herbivores follow larger grazers, who skim off the highest, tough growth of plants, exposing tender shoots. For terrestrial animals, grazing is normally distinguished from browsing in that grazing is eating grass or forbs, and browsing is eating woody twigs and leaves from trees and shrubs. Grazing differs from true predation because the organism being grazed upon is not generally killed. Grazing differs from parasitism as the two organisms do not live together, nor is the grazer necessarily so limited in what it can eat (see generalist and specialist species). Water animals that feed for example on algae found on stones are called grazers-scrapers. Grazers-scrapers feed also on microorganisms and dead organic matter on various substrates.
"Grazing in the Grass" is an instrumental composed by Philemon Hou and first recorded by the South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela. Released in the United States as a single in 1968, it hit no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, ranking it as the 18th biggest hit of the year.
The title phrase was rumoured to be a synonym for the practice of smoking marijuana, one of whose nicknames is "grass."
"Grazing in the Grass" was inspired by an earlier Masekela recording, "Mr. Bull No. 5". Hou, an actor and singer, came up with the melody while the backing track was already being recorded. The session was held at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood.
The Friends of Distinction recorded a vocal cover version of the tune in 1969 on RCA Victor, which was also a Top Ten pop and R&B hit, reaching no. 3 on the former and no. 5 on the latter. One of the group's members, Harry Elston, wrote lyrics for the song and sang lead on the Friends Of Distinction's version of it.
Hugh Ramopolo Masekela (born 4 April 1939) is a South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer, and singer. He is the father of American television host Sal Masekela.
Masekela was born in Kwa-Guqa Township, Witbank, South Africa. He began singing and playing piano as a child. At the age of 14, after seeing the film Young Man with a Horn (in which Kirk Douglas plays a character modelled on American jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke), Masekela took up playing the trumpet. His first trumpet was given to him by Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, the anti-apartheid chaplain at St. Peter's Secondary School.
Huddleston asked the leader of the then Johannesburg "Native" Municipal Brass Band, Uncle Sauda, to teach Masekela the rudiments of trumpet playing. Masekela quickly mastered the instrument. Soon, some of his schoolmates also became interested in playing instruments, leading to the formation of the Huddleston Jazz Band, South Africa's first youth orchestra. By 1956, after leading other ensembles, Masekela joined Alfred Herbert's African Jazz Revue.

Regenerative ranching changes the paradigm of cattle and range management via biomimicry and a holistic approach. By working with herd animals' instincts to graze in high density clusters for short durations in rotational patterns, many benefits are derived that work synergistically for the greater good of the herd and the soil. Manure is consistently deposited in the pastures as the animals are moved encouraging the symbiotic relationships between the cattle, birds, insects and plants to thrive in a balanced system that supports life. A diverse use of cover crops provide high quality forage that keep the cattle thriving while improving the pastures with more organic matter and biodiversity. This innovative sustainable ranching approach offers a multitude of benefits that changes the ent...
This is a presentation about the technique of intensive rotational grazing. This video talks about how intensive rotational grazing works and the intent and the science behind it. If you are thinking of using intensive rotational grazing on your farm, this is the video for you.

www.prairiefarmreport.com Chad Ross and the L7 Ranch is where we see Chad grazing 620 cow-calf pairs on a section of corn in the middle of a prairie winter. He rotates the cattle through 40 acre acre paddocks controlling them with electric fencing. They spend 5 to 8 days in each paddock. He waters them all from one water source since there is very little crowding as they graze at different times. They get shelter from groves of nearby trees if it turns cold and windy. Eliminates manure/feed hauling/handling from a central yard.
"Grazing In The Grass" - Hugh Masekela (1968) The nicest cowbells ever! Album: "The Promise of a Future" Masekela was born in Kwa-Guqa Township, Witbank, South Africa. Following the 21 March 1960 Sharpeville Massacre—where 69 peacefully protesting Africans were shot dead in Sharpeville, and the South African government banned gatherings of ten or more people—and the increased brutality of the Apartheid state, Masekela left the country. He was helped by international friends such as Yehudi Menuhin, who got him admitted into London's Guildhall School of Music. During that period, Masekela visited the United States, where he was befriended by Harry Belafonte. He attended Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he studied classical trumpet from '60 to '64. In 1964, Myriam Makeba and Masek...
We move our sheep and goats to a new paddock surrounded by electric net fence.
The original single was recorded and released in 1968. It appears on the album The Promise of a Future. This version is from the Best of Hugh Masekela, and is slightly different from the original recording. That original will be uploaded at a later date. Masekela was one of the first artists to bring South African jazz to the United States, releasing Trumpet African in 1962. His breakthrough album is titled "The Americanization of Ooga Booga," where among original tunes he covered Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island. Masekela is an underrated artist who had a significant influence on the direction of jazz in the 1960's. He continues to compile his vast experience and influences into marvelous music and remains active in today's music scene. Rest in Peace, Brother (April 4, 1938 - Jan...

Put on my cowboy boots and my favorite blue jeans
Took your stash of cash, threw out those magazines
Dirty dishes, laundry on the floor
I didn't say a word as I slammed the front door
All alone you can sit..... truth hurts, don't it.
Left a note in the bible by the bed
Said goodbye to all the lies you fed
Called your momma, she likes me better
Told her all the reasons why we're not together
Go ahead a pitch a fit..... truth hurts, don't it.
Truth Hurts, you bet it does
When you're staying up late thinking of me just because
Truth Hurts, that's a fact
You done me wrong, I'm gone, and I ain't coming back
Memories are all you're gonna get... truth hurts, don't it
Down the road in my new old car
Took my dog and your guitar
So much for happy, so much for I do
Cause I don't, I won't, spend my life with the likes of you
All alone you can sit... the truth hurts, don't it.
Truth Hurts, you bet it does
When you're staying up late thinking of me just because
Truth Hurts, that's a fact
You done me wrong, I'm gone, and I ain't coming back
Memories are all you're gonna get... truth hurts, don't it
