Music Inc. is an album by American jazz trumpeter Charles Tolliver's Music Inc. with a Big Band recorded in 1970 and first released on the Strata-East label.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Jason Ankeny awarded the album 4½ stars stating "The remarkable Music, Inc. Big Band remains the apotheosis of trumpeter Charles Tolliver's singular creative vision. Rarely if ever has a big band exhibited so much freedom or finesse, while at the same time never overwhelming the virtuoso soloists on whom the performances pivots".

Names of the days of the week

The names of the days of the seven-day week in many languages are derived from the names of the classical planets in Hellenistic astrology, which were in turn named after contemporary deities, a system introduced in the Roman Empire during Late Antiquity. In some other languages, the days are named for corresponding deities of the regional culture, either beginning with Sunday or with Monday. In the international standard ISO 8601, Monday is treated as the first day of the week.

Greco-Roman tradition

Between the 1st and 3rd centuries the Roman Empire gradually replaced the eight-day Roman nundinal cycle with the seven-day week. Our earliest evidence for this new system is a Pompeiian graffito referring to the 6th February (viii idus Februarius) of the year AD 60 as dies solis ("Sunday"). Another early witness is a reference to a lost treatise by Plutarch, written in about AD 100, which addressed the question of Why are the days named after the planets reckoned in a different order from the actual order?.

Week

A week is a time unit equal to seven days. It is the standard time period used for cycles of work days and rest days in most parts of the world, mostly alongside (but not strictly part of) the Gregorian calendar.

The days of the week were named in different languages after classical planets, various deities (example: Thursday – Thor's day, a variation after Jupiter's day from Roman times) and heavenly bodies (example: Sunday – Sun's day) and other sources. In English, the names are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

ISO 8601 includes the ISO week date system, a numbering system for weeks within a given year – each week begins on a Monday and is associated with the year that contains that week's Thursday (so that if a year starts in a long weekend Friday–Sunday, week number one of the year will start after that).

The term "week" is sometimes expanded to refer to other time units comprising a few days, such as the nundinal cycle of the ancient Roman calendar.

The Weeks (band)

The Weeks are an indie rock band from Jackson, Mississippi.

The band was formed by Cein Bernas, Chaz Lindsey, Cyla Bernas, Payton Rendolph and Semual Williems in March 2006 when they were between 14 and 16 years old. Renolph, of The Da Vincis, left the band after two rehearsals and was replaced by Demian Bona. The band signed to the Esperanza Plantation label, with the debut album, Comeback Cadillac, released in July 2008. The album blended southern rock and alternative, and featured a duet with labelmate Allie Peden on "Sailor Song".Rilo Kiley, The Mars Volta, and My Morning Jacket have been suggested as band influences. Their debut EP, Rumspringa, followed in 2009.

After some lineup changes that left them with a four piece of the Bernas twins, Bona and Williems, the band relocated to Nashville, TN. In March 2011, they returned to Water Valley, MS to work with Winn McElroy at his Black Wings Studio on the eight songs that encompass a 12" EP entitled, "Gutter Gaunt Gangster", out October 11, 2011 on Esperanza Plantation. They spent the next six months touring with Junior Astronomers, Local H, North Mississippi All-Stars, and The Meat Puppets. After signing with Kings of Leon's new record label Serpents and Snakes, they re-released Gutter Gaunt Gangster September 25, 2012. Their second full length, Dear Bo Jackson was released in the spring of 2013. The band's newest and arguably most talented member, Johny Fisher, was inducted into the band in 2015.

Music

Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."

While he has spent his life delivering the mail, he has been saving countless lives, too. While "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," nothing will stop Marcos from his life's mission to help others in a very selfless way. In fact, every two weeks for those same 34 years, Marcos has spent two hours at the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center donating blood. He specifically donates platelets, a blood component that enables him to donate more often. Because Marcos has been such a loyal donor, he was recently honored for surpassing the 100-gallon mark, saving thousands of lives. Marco is the fourth person in South Texas to reach that impressive milestone and only the second in San Antonio. Marcos donates not just because it's the right thing to do, he said, but because of what happened to him years ago. When his own life hung in the balance, someone stepped in, donated blood and saved Marcos. In fact, Marcos remains in touch with the man who donated and saved his life. He feels very strongly about donating. "They might live an extra day, a year, a month, who knows. Maybe they will live forever. Somebody needs these platelets, and there's no platelets on the shelf." Roger Ruiz, a corporate communications specialist for the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC), called Marcos the "all star" of donating. He said he's saved patients enduring cancer treatments, patients involved in car accidents and people with blood disorders. Family members and staff at the center recently threw a party to celebrate Marcos' big milestone. He was honored and humbled. He also noted that in the amount of time it takes to watch a movie, a person can donate. "Give from the heart."
