The Koch family (/ˈkoʊk/ KOKE) is an American family of industrialists, philanthropists and businesspeople, most noted for their political activities and control of Koch Industries, the second-largest privately owned company in the United States (with 2013 revenues of $115 billion). The family business was started by Fred C. Koch, who developed a new cracking method for the refinement of heavy oil into gasoline. Fred's four sons litigated against each other over their interests in the business during the 1980s and 1990s.

Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch, today commonly referred to as the Koch brothers — and the only two of Fred Koch's four sons still with Koch Industries — are also affiliated with the Koch family foundations.

Dave Rubin

Dave Rubin (born David Joshua Rubin; June 26, 1976) is an American comedian, talk show host, and television personality. He is the creator and host of political talk show The Rubin Report, part of Ora TV and formerly of The Young Turks Network. He previously hosted the The Six Pack podcast and radio show on Sirius XM Radio.

Rubin is known for his political satire and political commentary. He targets many topics including political correctness, free speech, politics, mass media, religion, foreign affairs, and the ideological split between liberals and the progressive movement. He has been influential in popularizing the phrase "Regressive left."

Early life

Dave Rubin was born in Brooklyn, New York, spent his adolescence in Syosset, New York, and resided for 13 years on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. He is of Jewish descent and the oldest of three siblings. In 1994, Rubin graduated from Syosset High School. In 1998, he earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Binghamton University, in Vestal, New York.

Charles Koch

Charles G. Koch (/ˈkoʊk/; born November 1, 1935) is an American businessman and philanthropist. He is co-owner, chairman of the board, and chief executive officer of Koch Industries, while his brother David H. Koch serves as Executive Vice President. Charles and David each own 42% of the conglomerate. The brothers inherited the business from their father, Fred C. Koch, then expanded the business. Originally involved exclusively in oil refining and chemicals, Koch Industries now includes process and pollution control equipment and technologies; polymers and fibers; minerals; fertilizers; commodity trading and services; forest and consumer products; and ranching. The businesses produce a wide variety of well-known brands, such as Stainmaster carpet, the Lycra brand of spandex fiber, Quilted Northern tissue and Dixie Cup.

In 2007, Koch's book The Science of Success was published. The book describes his management philosophy, referred to as "Market-Based Management".

Koch Industries is the second-largest privately held company by revenue in the United States according to a 2010 Forbes survey In February 2014, Koch was ranked 9th richest person in the world by Hurun Report with an estimated net worth of $36 billion. Previously, in October 2012 he was ranked the 6th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $34 billion—according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index—and was ranked 18th on Forbes World's Billionaires list of 2011 (and 4th on the Forbes 400), with an estimated net worth of $25 billion, deriving from his 42% stake in Koch Industries.

Auch für Cornelia Poletto, fernsehbekannte Sterneköchin, war die Ausbildung wie ein Fegefeuer. Aber: Beide haben es geschafft. Sie faszinieren die kochbegeisterte Fernsehnation mit stetig neuen Kreationen auf höchstem kulinarischem Niveau. Und das hat Auswirkungen auf den Nachwuchs: Kochen als Beruf steht bei jungen Leuten hoch im Kurs. Viele lassen sich vom Glamour der Fernsehköche anstecken - aber auch blenden. Denn nur wenige Ausbildungsberufe fordern mehr Hingabe und auch Selbstaufopferung wie der des Kochs. Ausbildungsqualität hält sich in Grenzen Denn vor allem die billige Arbeitskraft der jungen Leute ist gefragt. Schutzgesetze für Jugendliche werden geflissentlich übergangen, Arbeitszeiten von 16 Stunden sind auch für 16-Jährige an der Tagesordnung. Die Ausbildungsqualität hält sich erstaunlicher Weise vor allem in den sogenannten besseren Häusern in Grenzen. Oft kommen gerade die Lehrlinge aus ehrgeizigen Sterneküchen schon müde und ausgebrannt in die Berufsschule. Und dort müssen die Ausbilder dann Basisarbeit leisten: Wie geht eigentlich eine Farce, wie bereitet man Schalentiere zu? Bei der Industrie- und Handelskammer und der Gewerkschaft Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten sieht man die Entwicklung mit Besorgnis, hat aber wenige Möglichkeiten, einzugreifen. Denn bei den meisten Koch-Azubis gilt die Parole: durchhalten um jeden Preis. Und dann nichts wie weg. Wie also geht es in Deutschlands Restaurantküchen wirklich zu? Die Autoren Ellen Trapp und Kristian Kähler haben sich auf die Suche gemacht und vor allem zwei Dinge gefunden: ambitioniertes Handwerk, aber auch harte Bedingungen. Präzision und Schnelligkeit zeichnen eine Kochbrigade aus, wenn es im Restaurant hoch hergeht. Dabei herrscht oft ein rüder Ton, von knappen Kommandos bis zu Beleidigungen. Wer damit Schwierigkeiten hat - und sei es nur in der Anfangszeit - bekommt schnell die Kehrseite mit: Druck vom Chef und den Kollegen. Ausgrenzung aus dem Kollektiv, Überlastung, Einsamkeit.
