Memorial University (colloquially known as "MUN" /mʌn/) is a comprehensive university located primarily in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
With historical strengths in education, engineering, business, geology, and medicine, it is one of the top comprehensive universities in Canada. With over 18,000 students, it is also the largest university in Atlantic Canada.
MUN's four main campuses are served by more than 1100 faculty and 2,300 staff members. Memorial University of Newfoundland has been featured in the SJTU World university rankings, the TOP 500 and many other rankings. Memorial University of Newfoundland is a member of the prestigious International Association of Universities.
Memorial University of Newfoundland 107690273RR0001 was registered as a charitable organization in Canada on 1967-01-01. The primary areas in which the charity is now carrying on programs to achieve its charitable purposes, ranked according to the percentage of time and resources devoted to each program area follow:
A memorial is an object which serves as a focus for memory of something, usually a person (who has died) or an event. Popular forms of memorials include landmark objects or art objects such as sculptures, statues or fountains, and even entire parks.
The most common type of memorial is the gravestone or the memorial plaque. Also common are war memorials commemorating those who have died in wars. Memorials in the form of a cross are called intending crosses.
Online memorials and tributes are becoming increasingly popular especially with the increase in natural burial where the laying of gravestones, or memorial plaques, is often not permitted.
When somebody has died, the family may request that a memorial gift (usually money) be given to a designated charity, or that a tree be planted in memory of the person.
Sometimes, when a high school student has died, the memorials are placed in the form of a scholarship, to be awarded to high-achieving students in future years.
A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.
Newfoundland and Labrador (/njuːfənˈlænd ænd ˈlæbrədɔːr/, French: Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador) is the most easterly province of Canada. Situated in the country's Atlantic region, it comprises the island of Newfoundland and mainland Labrador to the northwest, with a combined area of 405,212 square kilometres (156,500 sq mi). In 2013, the province's population was estimated at 526,702. About 92% of the province's population lives on the island of Newfoundland (and its neighboring smaller islands), of whom more than half live on the Avalon Peninsula. The province is Canada's most linguistically homogeneous, with 97.6% of residents reporting English (Newfoundland English) as their mother tongue in the 2006 census. Historically, Newfoundland was also home to unique varieties of French and Irish, as well as the extinct Beothuk language. In Labrador, local dialects of Innu-aimun and Inuktitut are also spoken.
Newfoundland and Labrador's capital and largest city, St. John's, is Canada's 20th-largest census metropolitan area, and is home to almost 40 percent of the province's population. St. John's is the seat of government, home to the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador and to the highest court in the jurisdiction, the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal.

“This university was raised by the people of Newfoundland as a Memorial to the fallen in the Great Wars 1914-1918 and 1939-1945, that in freedom of learning their cause and sacrifice might not be forgotten.” This is the inscription on a plaque erected by the Newfoundland Command of the Royal Canadian Legion in the Arts and Administration Building at Memorial's St. John's campus and unveiled by HRH the Princess Royal on September 21, 1964. Memorial University College was established in 1925 as a living memorial to those who had lost their lives on active service during the First World War. It was later rededicated to also encompass the province's war dead of the Second World War. In all, 310 former students of the Memorial University College offered themselves for active service in the S...

In this VLOG I explore Jellybean Row and Signal Hill while visiting St. John’s, Newfoundland in the summertime. St. John's is the eastern most city in North America and it is one of the earliest European settlements dating back to the 16th century. Signal Hill is aptly named due to the first wireless, transatlantic signal that was received there.
