J. Martin (Hampshire cricketer)

J. Martin (first name, date of birth and date of death unknown) was an English cricketer.

Martin made a single first-class appearance for Hampshire in 1904 against Somerset. In Somerset's second innings Martin took four wickets, including that of England Test cricketer Lionel Palairet. In Hampshire's first innings Martin scored 39 runs batting at number eleven. In Hampshire's second innings Martin scored 27 runs batting in the same position.

Gregori J. Martin

Gregori J. Martin (born Gregorio Barbieri Jr. on May 6, 1978) is a director, writer, and producer of independent film and stage productions and founder, of LANYfilms Productions, an independent bi-coastal entertainment company. He is best known as the creator, writer and executive producer of the soap opera web series The Bay, for which he won a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series.

Career

Around 2000, Martin wrote and produced several experimental projects and TV pilots including Waterfront, as directed by Lisa Brown. In the Spring of 2005 he made his directorial debut for the stage with Crucify!, a self-written original play following the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. It was at that time he turned to directing films.

In 2006, with the help of private investors, Martin directed, wrote, and produced three feature motion pictures, including MARy, an indie horror film based on the urban legend Bloody Mary, shot on location in Los Angeles County. Relocating to the East Coast, he immediately began working as a co-director on a low budget horror film, Taken for Granted, shot on location in New London, CT, and later that year he began production as director and co-writer of Manhattanites, a feature dramedy starring several Emmy nominated stars from the ABC and CBS daytime soap operas.

J. Martin (Essex cricketer)

J. Martin (first name and dates unknown) was an English first-class cricketer with professional status who was mainly associated with Essex and is known to have been active from 1785 to 1794. He also played for Middlesex and the White Conduit Club. Principally a bowler of unknown hand and pace, Martin made ten appearances in matches rated first-class by CricketArchive, totalling 107 runs with a highest score of 29 and taking 33 wickets. He is recorded in four other matches.

Martin's association with the White Conduit Club suggests that he was probably a professional ground staff bowler there. Until the works of Samuel Britcher came to light in recent times, Martin's initial was unknown but a 1790 scorecard in Britcher confirms that he was J. Martin.

Red carpet

A red carpet is traditionally used to mark the route taken by heads of state on ceremonial and formal occasions, and has in recent decades been extended to use by VIPs and celebrities at formal events.

History

The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:

Oriental carpets in Renaissance painting often show rugs and carpets, patterned but with red often the main background colour, laid on the steps to a throne, or on a dais where rulers or sacred figures are placed.

A red carpet was rolled out to a river to welcome the arrival of United States president James Monroe in 1821. In 1902, The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded their 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is believed to be the origin of the phrase "red-carpet treatment". Film premieres are often laid down with red carpets.

The Bay (web series)

The Bay is a soap opera web series that premiered on September 15, 2010 at Blip.tv. Starring Mary Beth Evans as wealthy socialite Sara Garrett, the series was created by Gregori J. Martin. It is set in the posh seaside town of Bay City, where the privileged residents are entangled in one scandal, betrayal or love affair after the other.

The Bay won a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series, and was previously nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2012 for Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime.

Plot

Sara Garrett rules the social set of Bay City, where passions run high and every relationship is complicated.
