In 1994 Saafir The Saucy Nomad instilled his left coast accent and off beat left field flow on his debut single "Light Sleeper." The single was soon followed by his heavily slept on album "Boxcar Sessions" Critically acclaimed "Boxcar Sessions" received poor sales, yet years later has been a heavily sought after cd on amazon and ebay. Currently Saafir and his crew Hobo Junction continue to release product on the independent side of things. The last 20 seconds of the video version features "Battle Drill." "Light Sleeper" is produced by in house Hobo Junction producer Jay-Z(in 94' the rapper with the same name hadn't blown up yet.)
Reggie Gibson, better known as Saafir is an emcee, producer and actor from Oakland, California. After moving from Fresno, California (the "'No") to Oakland, he lived with Tupac Shakur and became a dancer for Digital Underground. Saafir took part in one of the most notorious Bay Area rap battles, when he and members of the Hobo Junction went against Casual and members of the Hieroglyphics Crew. The battle took place live on KMEL. There has never been a real decision as to who won the battle and there is some debate as to whether or not Saafir was using pre-written raps. He first appeared on Digital Underground's The Body-Hat Syndrome in 1993, and then Casual's Fear Itself in early 1994. He appeared in the film Menace II Society as Harold Lawson and was featured on the film's soundtrack. With a deal from Qwest Records, Saafir recruited the Hobo Junction production team (J Groove, J.Z., Rational, Big Nose, and Poke Martian) for his freestyle debut, Boxcar Sessions (1994). He recorded an album called Trigonometry under the alias Mr. No No before returning as Saafir in The Hit List (1999). The Hit List was considered Saafir's attempt at commercial acceptance. The album featured production by Stevie J (made famous for his work with P. Diddy's Hitmen production team) and guest vocals from West Coast heavyweights Kam and Jayo Felony and controversial East Coast lyricist Chino XL. He largely recovered from a tumor in his spine. He's back with his old group, Hobo Junction, and has completed work on his fourth album, Good Game: The Transition (ABB Records, 2006). The album covers the major transitions throughout his life, most notably his spinal tumor, and his conversion to Islam.

Saafir "Tha Saucee Nomad", Also known as Merg One, Mr. No No, Harold the Menace, etc.
Legendary Lyricist, Producer, Actor from West Oakland (Acorns), CA. Founder of Hobo Junction. Member of Digital Underground.
Older brother of Chop Black from The Whoridas. His demo tape caught the ears of Matty C at The Source Magazine, who later featured Saafir in their "Unsigned Hype" column in 1992. Oakland rapper Casual (from Hieroglyphics) featured Saafir on his debut album "Fear Itself" (Jive Records, 1993). Casual also threw shade at Saafir on the same album, on the song "I Didn't Mean To".
Saafir signed to Quincy Jones's record label, Qwest Records and released his debut solo album "Boxcar Sessions" in 1994, along with his DJ, Jay-Z (not to be confused with Jigga) on production & cuts. "Boxcar Sessions" also introduced Saafir's crew, the Hobo Junction.
In 1995, Saafir appeared on the hip hop classic "Come Widdit" with Ahmad & Ras Kass.
The boiling tension between Saafir & Casual and their respective crews Hobo Junction Vs. Hieroglyphics came to a head on "The Wake Up Show" with Sway & King Tech. The two crews battled live on-air, and eventually a minor fight broke out.
Shortly afterwards, The Hughes Brothers chose Saafir to act in their first feature film, "Menace II Society". Saafir plays Cane's cousin, Harold, in the film. Saafir managed to land the role in the film, while at the same time he was associated with Tupac Shakur through Digital Underground and them both living in Oakland, CA. 2Pac wanted Saafir to be under his wing, with The Outlawz but Saafir refused to be a follower of anyone. And after 2Pac turned down his role for "Menace II Society", he basically severed his ties with Saafir because 2Pac then had beef with The Hughes Brothers over the "Menace II Society" misunderstanding.
Saafir is very close friends with Shock G. He has done production for Saafir over the years. Saafir produced "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'" by The Whoridas.
Saafir also has a many songs on the underground tapes by Hobo Junction, some which were later released. He also released an album under the alias "Mr. No No" called "Trigonometry".
Saafir is Formerly a member of The Golden State Project (with Xzibit & Ras Kass). He is also very close friends with Organized Konfusion, Abstract Rude, Tha Dogg Pound, Tha Alkaholiks and Kam (2).
Shock G wrote an article about Saafir's life, which was published on Okayplayer. In the article, Shock goes into details about the airplane crash that Saafir survived, and other misfortunes in his life which lead to him living in a wheelchair now.
Before being confined to a wheelchair, Saafir was chosen by Sanyika Shakur to be the actor he wanted to depict him in the biopic life story of former notorious Los Angeles O.G. Gang banger Monster Kody (now known as Sanyika Shakur).
Saafir appeared in the "Girl Shit/Players" video by Slum Village. Saafir once used to date R&B; singer, Mya.

Saafir
Reggie Gibson, better known as Saafir, is an emcee, producer and actor from Oakland, California. He is also a member of the rap group "Golden State Project" (formerly known as Golden State Warriors) with Ras Kass and Xzibit. Born in Oakland, California, he lived with Tupac Shakur and became a dancer for Digital Underground. Saafir took part in one of the most notorious Bay Area rap battles, when he and members of the Hobo Junction went against Casual and members of the Hieroglyphics Crew. The battle took place live on KMEL. There has never been a real decision as to who won the battle. Saafir admits that during the battle he simultaneously used premeditated and freestyle rhymes claiming during lyrical warfare a true combatant leaves nothing to chance making sure his opponents face heavy artillery and an arsenal of weaponry.
Saafir made his recording debut on several cuts on Digital Underground's The Body-Hat Syndrome in 1993, followed by an appearance on Casual's Fear Itself in early 1994. He appeared in the film Menace II Society as Harold Lawson and was featured on the film's soundtrack. Boxcar Sessions is the debut studio album from American hip hop artist Saafir, released in May 10, 1994 on Qwest Records.
Release and reception
Alex Henderson of Allmusic compared Saafir's musical style favorably to such celebrated hip hop artists as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Digable Planets, and the Pharcyde. Henderson also stated "between Saafir's rapping style and the jazzy production, Boxcar Sessions is fairly fresh sounding."

Light Sleeper
Light Sleeper is an American drama film written and directed by Paul Schrader in 1992. It stars Willem Dafoe, Susan Sarandon, and Dana Delany.
The film, set in New York City, shows the tragic events following the encounter of a 40-year-old drug dealer and his former girlfriend.
Plot
John LeTour, a 40-year-old New Yorker, is one of two delivery men for Ann, who supplies an exclusive clientele in the banking and financing sector with drugs. While Ann contemplates switching to the cosmetics business, LeTour, who suffers from insomnia, has lost his perspective in life.
One night LeTour meets his former girlfriend Marianne, who both once shared an intense but destructive relationship due to drug abuse. Although they stopped taking drugs, Marianne refuses his offer for a new start. After spending one night together, she tells him that this was her way of saying good-bye. Unbeknown to her, her mother died at the hospital while she was with LeTour. The next time he meets Marianne, she attacks him, demanding that he gets out of her life once and for all.

He's back with his old group, Hobo Junction, and has completed work on his fourth album, Good Game: The Transition (ABB Records, 2006). The album covers the major transitions throughout his life, most notably his spinal tumor, and his conversion to Islam.

Shortly afterwards, The Hughes Brothers chose Saafir to act in their first feature film, "Menace II Society". Saafir plays Cane's cousin, Harold, in the film. Saafir managed to land the role in the film, while at the same time he was associated with Tupac Shakur through Digital Underground and them both living in Oakland, CA. 2Pac wanted Saafir to be under his wing, with The Outlawz but Saafir refused to be a follower of anyone. And after 2Pac turned down his role for "Menace II Society", he basically severed his ties with Saafir because 2Pac then had beef with The Hughes Brothers over the "Menace II Society" misunderstanding.
Saafir is very close friends with Shock G. He has done production for Saafir over the years. Saafir produced "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'" by The Whoridas.
Saafir also has a many songs on the underground tapes by Hobo Junction, some which were later released. He also released an album under the alias "Mr. No No" called "Trigonometry".
Saafir is Formerly a member of The Golden State Project (with Xzibit & Ras Kass). He is also very close friends with Organized Konfusion, Abstract Rude, Tha Dogg Pound, Tha Alkaholiks and Kam (2).
Shock G wrote an article about Saafir's life, which was published on Okayplayer. In the article, Shock goes into details about the airplane crash that Saafir survived, and other misfortunes in his life which lead to him living in a wheelchair now.
Before being confined to a wheelchair, Saafir was chosen by Sanyika Shakur to be the actor he wanted to depict him in the biopic life story of former notorious Los Angeles O.G. Gang banger Monster Kody (now known as Sanyika Shakur).

Shortly afterwards, The Hughes Brothers chose Saafir to act in their first feature film, "Menace II Society". Saafir plays Cane's cousin, Harold, in the film. Saafir managed to land the role in the film, while at the same time he was associated with Tupac Shakur through Digital Underground and them both living in Oakland, CA. 2Pac wanted Saafir to be under his wing, with The Outlawz but Saafir refused to be a follower of anyone. And after 2Pac turned down his role for "Menace II Society", he basically severed his ties with Saafir because 2Pac then had beef with The Hughes Brothers over the "Menace II Society" misunderstanding.
Saafir is very close friends with Shock G. He has done production for Saafir over the years. Saafir produced "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'" by The Whoridas.
Saafir also has a many songs on the underground tapes by Hobo Junction, some which were later released. He also released an album under the alias "Mr. No No" called "Trigonometry".
Saafir is Formerly a member of The Golden State Project (with Xzibit & Ras Kass). He is also very close friends with Organized Konfusion, Abstract Rude, Tha Dogg Pound, Tha Alkaholiks and Kam (2).
Shock G wrote an article about Saafir's life, which was published on Okayplayer. In the article, Shock goes into details about the airplane crash that Saafir survived, and other misfortunes in his life which lead to him living in a wheelchair now.

In 1994, Saafir made a brilliant guest appearance on Casual's debut album Fear Itself. Saafir wanted Casual to return the favor on his own debut, Boxcar Sessions, but for whatever reason Casual didn't show up. Saafir took it personally, and soon his crew, the Hobo Junction, was beefing with Casual's Hieroglyphics crew. They agreed to settle it in a battle broadcast on Sway and Tech's Wake Up Show. There was dispute about whether Saafir was using written rhymes, and whether he had warned he would do so beforehand. But when you hear him open his first verse "Did your momma tell you that you was my son," sounding "like he could swallow the fucking planet" (as Cocaine Blunts described him), it doesn't really seem to matter. In 1994 Saafir The Saucy Nomad instilled his left coast accent and off beat left field flow on his debut single "Light Sleeper." The single was soon followed by his heavily slept on album "Boxcar Sessions" Critically acclaimed "Boxcar Sessions" received poor sales, yet years later has been a heavily sought after cd on amazon and ebay. Currently Saafir and his crew Hobo Junction continue to release product on the independent side of things. The last 20 seconds of the video version features "Battle Drill." "Light Sleeper" is produced by in house Hobo Junction producer Jay-Z(in 94' the rapper with the same name hadn't blown up yet.)

MC Eiht Says 2Pac Thought 'Menace II Society' Character Wasn't Gangster
In 1993, Tupac Shakur was picked to play Sharif, a college-bound Muslim, in Menace II Society, however, after disputes with the directors about gaining a hardcore role, he decided to ditch the movie. In an interview with MC Eiht, who played A-Wax in the film, he explained to DJ Vlad why Tupac gave up the infamous role. "Pac had a problem with that role because it didn't depict him like the rest of us." He said, "In our circle everybody was gang banging killers, except him." Watch the full interview above.

Legendary Lyricist, Producer, Actor from West Oakland (Acorns), CA. Founder of Hobo Junction. Member of Digital Underground.
Older brother of Chop Black from The Whoridas. His demo tape caught the ears of Matty C at The Source Magazine, who later featured Saafir in their "Unsigned Hype" column in 1992. Oakland rapper Casual (from Hieroglyphics) featured Saafir on his debut album "Fear Itself" (Jive Records, 1993). Casual also threw shade at Saafir on the same album, on the song "I Didn't Mean To".
Saafir signed to Quincy Jones's record label, Qwest Records and released his debut solo album "Boxcar Sessions" in 1994, along with his DJ, Jay-Z (not to be confused with Jigga) on production & cuts. "Boxcar Sessions" also introduced Saafir's crew, the Hobo Junction.
In 1995, Saafir appeared on the hip hop classic "Come Widdit" with Ahmad & Ras Kass.
The boiling tension between Saafir & Casual and their respective crews Hobo Junction Vs. Hieroglyphics came to a head on "The Wake Up Show" with Sway & King Tech. The two crews battled live on-air, and eventually a minor fight broke out.
Shortly afterwards, The Hughes Brothers chose Saafir to act in their first feature film, "Menace II Society". Saafir plays Cane's cousin, Harold, in the film. Saafir managed to land the role in the film, while at the same time he was associated with Tupac Shakur through Digital Underground and them both living in Oakland, CA. 2Pac wanted Saafir to be under his wing, with The Outlawz but Saafir refused to be a follower of anyone. And after 2Pac turned down his role for "Menace II Society", he basically severed his ties with Saafir because 2Pac then had beef with The Hughes Brothers over the "Menace II Society" misunderstanding.
Saafir is very close friends with Shock G. He has done production for Saafir over the years. Saafir produced "Shot Callin' & Big Ballin'" by The Whoridas.
Saafir also has a many songs on the underground tapes by Hobo Junction, some which were later released. He also released an album under the alias "Mr. No No" called "Trigonometry".
Saafir is Formerly a member of The Golden State Project (with Xzibit & Ras Kass). He is also very close friends with Organized Konfusion, Abstract Rude, Tha Dogg Pound, Tha Alkaholiks and Kam (2).
Shock G wrote an article about Saafir's life, which was published on Okayplayer. In the article, Shock goes into details about the airplane crash that Saafir survived, and other misfortunes in his life which lead to him living in a wheelchair now.
Before being confined to a wheelchair, Saafir was chosen by Sanyika Shakur to be the actor he wanted to depict him in the biopic life story of former notorious Los Angeles O.G. Gang banger Monster Kody (now known as Sanyika Shakur).

"Pac had a problem with that role because it didn't depict him like the rest of us." He said, "In our circle everybody was gang banging killers, except him."
