West Ham 1-0 Chelsea: Marko Arnautovic shines

WEST HAM 1-0 CHELSEA - ROB DRAPER AT THE LONDON STADIUM: Sometimes you need a marquee performance to turn around a season and even a club. Something that stamps both your personality and authority on a place. Maybe, just maybe, David Moyes got something like that from his West Ham side with his all-important first victory at the club in his fifth game. Certainly the patrons of the London Stadium haven’t seen anything this good this season, a League Cup win Tottenham notwithstanding. They roared their delight at the end and sang that song as heartily as has been heard in these parts for some time. Victory over Chelsea is almost as good as it gets.

Wijnaldum on how Klopp saved the season ahead of derby

INTERVIEW BY IAN LADYMAN: Georginio Wijnaldum is the footballer who doesn’t like watching football. He will not watch next summer’s World Cup now Holland are not in it and he has not even watched a re-run of the seven goals Liverpool buried past Spartak Moscow on Wednesday night. I find it strange seeing myself on television,’ he said with a sheepish smile. I don’t like it. I don’t really watch football much.’ Sometimes, though, the Liverpool midfielder has no choice. Modern football is built around video analysis. And it is the uncomfortable session in the dark of the Melwood TV room after October’s 4-1 drubbing at Tottenham that Wijnaldum feels may have turned around Liverpool’s season.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY CHRIS WHEELER: The terraced house on Aycliffe Avenue in Chorlton would have looked no different from any other in the street were it not for George Best's distinctive Lotus parked outside. 'We'd ask if he was coming out,' recalls Barnes. 'George would say, "Hi lads, give me five minutes, I'm just having my tea". Then he'd play cricket with us in the street. Brilliant.'

Man United icon Kanchelskis rates Guardiola above Mourinho

INTERVIEW BY IAN HERBERT: Andrei Kanchelskis’s last Manchester experience is the one he considers the most extraordinary and it reveals so much about why the red half of the city was so dominant for so long. Six years after his departure from Old Trafford sent him on a nomadic journey through the game, he pitched up in 2001 on loan at Joe Royle’s Manchester City, then marooned near the foot of a Premier League which Manchester United were about to win. And in their wisdom, the club decided a winter trip to Marbella would be a bright idea. Marbella!’ Kanchelskis says, still not sure whether to laugh or cry about it. Marbella! Bottom of the league and we go to Marbella! We needed more concentration, more training, more tactics. Mamma mia! That was very bad. Marbella! That was City at that time.’

Never forget derbies are the days legends can be made

How can I best explain the feeling of playing in a derby? Given the huge clashes in Merseyside and Manchester this weekend, it’s got me thinking about the battles I’ve been involved in. The Premier League is becoming increasingly cosmopolitan and globally focused but these are the games that define English football. We should never lose sight of that fact. These occasions are incomparable; they are the ones you dream of playing in when you are starting out.

JONNY BAIRSTOW: I’ve been sledged but not lost friends

JONNY BAIRSTOW: Well, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks. Firstly, let’s clear up the business I became caught up in at the end of the first Test. A headbutt, to me, is something that has malicious intent. I think that’s the dictionary definition. And that’s certainly not what happened between me and Cameron Bancroft when we met at the very start of the tour. The reality is that it was nothing. Our security were there and happy nothing happened. Sorry, if I had headbutted someone I think they would have known all about it and damage would have been done. How can I describe it? Boys being boys, I guess. But there was minimal contact, I can tell you that.
