Director Alice Winocour and actress Diane Kruger discussed their film 'Disorder' at Rendez-Vous with French Cinema 2016, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and UniFrance.
Alice Winocour’s follow-up to Augustine (Rendez-Vous 2013)—her study of the 19th-century neurologist Jean-Marie Charcot’s fraught relationship with one of his hysteria patients—is another finely tuned drama of unstable intimacy and mental imbalance. Having just returned from Afghanistan, Vincent (Matthias Schoenaerts) suffers from night terrors, pummeling headaches, and bouts of paranoia. To distract himself, he gets a job working security at the extravagant chateau of a Lebanese financier, whose beautiful wife (Diane Kruger) he’s soon hired to protect after the husband goes away on business. Disorder evolves from an exercise in nervous, slow-burn suspense into a tense domestic thriller. A Sundance Selects release.

Synopsis : 1885. Augustine est une jeune bonne de 20 ans, à peine sortie des rondeurs de l'enfance. Alors qu'elle sert à la table de ses patrons, elle est prise d'une violente crise, comme si une étrange force avait pris le pouvoir de son corps, comme s'il ne lui appartenait plus. Elle est internée à l'hôpital de la Salpêtrière. Dans cette cité des femmes, le professeur Charcot, clinicien de génie, essaye de comprendre une maladie encore inconnue : l'hystérie. Augustine, qui présente tous les symptômes de la maladie, ne tarde pas à attirer l'attention du maître qui choisit de la présenter à sa leçon. Là, devant un public exclusivement masculin issu de la bonne société, Charcot déclenche en elle sous hypnose une impressionnante « attaque sexuelle » qui fascine l'assistance. D'objet d'étude, Augustine devient vite objet de désir et le cobaye favori du professeur, son obsession... Pour lui plaire, Augustine participe de tout son corps aux expériences.

Alice Winocour
Alice Winocour (born 13 January 1976) is a French screenwriter and director.
Life and career
After studying screenwriting at La Fémis, Winocour made three short films and wrote the script for Vladimir Perisic's film Ordinary People (released in 2009).
Winocour's first feature film, Augustine, based on the relationship between Professor Charcot and his patient Augustine, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 as part of the Critics' Week. Her second directorial film Maryland was selected to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Winocour also co-wrote the film Mustang with Deniz Gamze Ergüven. It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival The film was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.

Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger (German pronunciation: [diˈa:nə ˈkru:ɡɐ]; born Diane Heidkrüger; 15 July 1976) is a German actress and former fashion model. She is known for roles such as Helen in the epic war film Troy (2004), Dr. Abigail Chase in the adventure/heist film National Treasure (2004) and its sequel (2007), Bridget von Hammersmark in the Quentin Tarantino-directed war film Inglourious Basterds (2009), Anna in the sci-fi drama Mr. Nobody (2009), and Gina in the psychological thriller film Unknown (2011). She plays the Seeker/Lacey in the romantic sci-fi thriller The Host (2013). From 2013 to 2014, she starred as Detective Sonya Cross in the FX television crime drama series The Bridge.
Early life
She was born as Diane Heidkrüger on 15 July 1976 in Algermissen, Germany, in the west near Hildesheim, the daughter of computer specialist Hans-Heinrich Heidkrüger, and his wife, Maria-Theresa, a bank employee. She was brought up Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school. She has stated that one of her grandmothers was Polish.

Elle est internée à l'hôpital de la Salpêtrière. Dans cette cité des femmes, le professeur Charcot, clinicien de génie, essaye de comprendre une maladie encore inconnue : l'hystérie. Augustine, qui présente tous les symptômes de la maladie, ne tarde pas à attirer l'attention du maître qui choisit de la présenter à sa leçon. Là, devant un public exclusivement masculin issu de la bonne société, Charcot déclenche en elle sous hypnose une impressionnante « attaque sexuelle » qui fascine l'assistance. Augustine
A doctor falling in love with a patient is "dog bites man." But when the doctor is Jean-Martin Charcot -- the teacher of both Williams James and Sigmind Freud -- the situation looks more like "man bites dog." Director Alice Winocour's highly honored first feature film Augustine explores how the famed neurologist becomes involved young illiterate housemaid who comes to his clinic. The filmmaker talks with CANAPE about how the story tries to honor the complexity of doctor and patient and to avoid facile ideas of villain and victim.
Ousmane Sembene
When director Ousmane Sembene passed in 2007 admirers around the world recognized him as the godfather of African cinema as well as a distinguished writer of stories and novels. As he said of himself, "I am a storyteller, an artist striving to express the secret pul
sation of my people." French journalist Christine Delorme encountered Sembene on numerous occasions over many years. CANAPE talks with her at the New York African Film Festival about her new film Ousmane Sembene: All at Once which pulls together candid interview footage from several periods of his life.
Olivier Tallec
All children see the world in a special way, but it is only special adults who can capture that precious perspective. French illustrator and author Olivier Tallec has that gift, as his prizes and sales on both sides of the Atlantic show. A graduate of the Ecole Superieure d'Art Graphique in Paris, he has illustrated more than 50 children's books. Some of his well known titles include Big Wolf & Little Wolf and The Moose Belongs to Me. CANAPE catches up with the charming raconteur during a recent visit to New York City.

ing is on the move. Well, almost everything. Award winning French Canadian choreographer based in New York Noemie Lafrance creates art that is wed to the site of its performance. A stairwell, a swimming pool, and the roof of a building designed by Frank Gehry: they have all served as inspirations for her site specific works. CANAPE makes a site visit to the artist. Stylish and modern, Canapé is the only program entirely devoted to French cultural events in New York and the United States. This monthly half-hour show includes film releases, book translations, exhibitions, festivals, ballets, concerts and theater productions.
Canapé is seen on the third Thursday of the month in a French-only version and repeated the fourth Thursday of the month in an English-subtitled version.

Alice Winocour’s follow-up to Augustine (Rendez-Vous 2013)—her study of the 19th-century neurologist Jean-Marie Charcot’s fraught relationship with one of his hysteria patients—is another finely tuned drama of unstable intimacy and mental imbalance. Having just returned from Afghanistan, Vincent (Matthias Schoenaerts) suffers from night terrors, pummeling headaches, and bouts of paranoia. To distract himself, he gets a job working security at the extravagant chateau of a Lebanese financier, whose beautiful wife (Diane Kruger) he’s soon hired to protect after the husband goes away on business. Disorder evolves from an exercise in nervous, slow-burn suspense into a tense domestic thriller. A Sundance Selects release.

Synopsis : 1885. Augustine est une jeune bonne de 20 ans, à peine sortie des rondeurs de l'enfance. Alors qu'elle sert à la table de ses patrons, elle est prise d'une violente crise, comme si une étrange force avait pris le pouvoir de son corps, comme s'il ne lui appartenait plus. Elle est internée à l'hôpital de la Salpêtrière. Dans cette cité des femmes, le professeur Charcot, clinicien de génie, essaye de comprendre une maladie encore inconnue : l'hystérie. Augustine, qui présente tous les symptômes de la maladie, ne tarde pas à attirer l'attention du maître qui choisit de la présenter à sa leçon. Là, devant un public exclusivement masculin issu de la bonne société, Charcot déclenche en elle sous hypnose une impressionnante « attaque sexuelle » qui fascine l'assistance. D'objet d'étude, Augustine devient vite objet de désir et le cobaye favori du professeur, son obsession... Pour lui plaire, Augustine participe de tout son corps aux expériences.

- El 27° Festival cerró anoche con la Ceremonia de Premiación en el Teatro Auditorium
«Hoy domingo se exhiben las últimas películas pero la 27º edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata tuvo su ceremonia de cierre el sábado por la noche donde se entregaron los premios y menciones de las Competencias Internacional, Argentina y Latinoamericana.
Con una numerosa concurrencia de artistas relacionados al mundo audiovisual y una notable concurrencia de público, Gabriela Rádice y Leo Montero, conductores de la ceremonia de cierre, dieron a conocer que el festival tuvo una presencia de más de100.000 espectadores a las salas.
José A. Martínez Suárez, director del evento, expresó las palabras de bienvenida anunciando la edición del año que viene, y luego, Lucrecia Cardoso, vicepresidenta del Instituto de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) leyó un comunicado sobre los resultados de los dos días del ECA (Encuentro de Comunicación Audiovisual).
Directores, actores, productores y otras personalidades relacionadas al cine y a los medios audiovisuales dijeron presente en la ceremonia final de la 27º edición. Estuvieron en la Sala Astor Piazzolla del Auditorium: Soledad Silveyra, Ana María Picchio, Claudio Villaroel, Víctor Laplace, Esther Goris, Juan Leyrado, Erica Rivas, Pablo Ruiz, Federico Olivera, Martín Piroyanski, María Onetto, Moro Angeleri, Gabriel Corrado, Virginia Innocenti, Bárbara Lombardo,Víctor Bó, Daniel Aráoz, Sabrina Farjí, Daniel Valenzuela y Luis Ziembrowski, entre tantos otros.
Las palabras finales estuvieron a cargo de Liliana Mazure, directora del Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA), expresando su alegría por el festival que se cierra mañana y por el que vendrá durante 2013.
Los últimos en ocupar el escenario fueron los integrantes del numeroso staff y voluntarios del festival.

- El 27° Festival cerró anoche con la Ceremonia de Premiación en el Teatro Auditorium
«Hoy domingo se exhiben las últimas películas pero la 27º edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata tuvo su ceremonia de cierre el sábado por la noche donde se entregaron los premios y menciones de las Competencias Internacional, Argentina y Latinoamericana.
Con una numerosa concurrencia de artistas relacionados al mundo audiovisual y una notable concurrencia de público, Gabriela Rádice y Leo Montero, conductores de la ceremonia de cierre, dieron a conocer que el festival tuvo una presencia de más de100.000 espectadores a las salas.
José A. Martínez Suárez, director del evento, expresó las palabras de bienvenida anunciando la edición del año que viene, y luego, Lucrecia Cardoso, vicepresidenta del Instituto de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) leyó un comunicado sobre los resultados de los dos días del ECA (Encuentro de Comunicación Audiovisual).
Directores, actores, productores y otras personalidades relacionadas al cine y a los medios audiovisuales dijeron presente en la ceremonia final de la 27º edición.
