Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia (1431–1476/77), was a member of the House of Drăculești, a branch of the House of Basarab, also known, using his patronymic, as (Vlad) Drăculea or (Vlad) Dracula. He was posthumously dubbed Vlad the Impaler, and was a three-time Voivode of Wallachia, ruling mainly from 1456 to 1462, the period of the incipient Ottoman conquest of the Balkans. His father, Vlad II Dracul, was a member of the Order of the Dragon, which was founded to protect Christianity in Eastern Europe. Vlad III is revered as a folk hero in Romania as well as other parts of Europe for his protection of the Romanian population both south and north of the Danube. A significant number of Romanian and Bulgarian common folk and remaining boyars moved north of the Danube to Wallachia, recognized his leadership and settled there following his raids on the Ottomans.

Wallachia or Walachia (Romanian: Țara Românească pronounced [ˈt͡sara romɨˈne̯askə] or Valahia pronounced [vaˈlahi.a]; archaic: Țeara Rumânească, Cyrillic: Цѣра Румѫнѣскъ / Цѣра Рȣмѫнѣскъ / Землѧ Ѹгровлахїиска, Old East Slavic: Земля Угровлахийская, Угровлашская Земля, Влашская Земля, Власское, Latin: Transalpina, Valachia) is a historical and geographical region of Romania. It is situated north of the Danube and south of the Southern Carpathians. Wallachia is traditionally divided into two sections, Muntenia (Greater Wallachia) and Oltenia (Lesser Wallachia). Wallachia as a whole is sometimes referred to as Muntenia through identification with the larger of the two traditional sections.
Wallachia was founded as a principality in the early 14th century by Basarab I, after a rebellion against Charles I of Hungary, although the first mention of the territory of Wallachia west of the river Olt dates to a charter given to the voivode Seneslau in 1246 by Béla IV of Hungary. In 1417, Wallachia accepted the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire; this lasted until the 19th century, albeit with brief periods of Russian occupation between 1768 and 1854. In 1859, Wallachia united with Moldavia to form the United Principalities, which adopted the name Romania in 1866 and officially became the Kingdom of Romania in 1881. Later, in 1918, Transylvania was ceded by the Treaty of Trianon from Hungary to the Kingdom of Romania, forming the modern Romanian state.

Paradox Interactive
Paradox Interactive is a Swedish video game publisher based in Stockholm that is known for publishing historical strategy computer games. It publishes its own games (developed by Paradox Development Studio) and those of other developers through traditional retail channels and through digital distribution services.
Paradox Interactive used to be a division of Paradox Entertainment, rights holders of properties such as Conan the Barbarian.
Ownership
Paradox Interactive is not a publicly traded company. The largest and majority owner is its CEO Fredrik Wester. The second largest owner is Investment AB Spiltan, and in June 2014 13% of the company was acquired by Peter Lindell.
Game characteristics
The studio produces what it terms "Grand Strategy games", meaning ones played on a real-world map, marked by the use of standard real-time elements but with an ability to make any and all changes even while paused. Almost all Paradox games have historical settings and demonstrate a reasonable commitment to historical accuracy. The focus of each game is different, but generally a player must manage the economy, commerce, internal politics, diplomacy, technological development, and military forces of a nation. Paradox Interactive games are also characteristically complex, with highly detailed gameplay models and consequently steep learning curves.

Black metal
Black metal is an extreme subgenre and subculture of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, shrieking (sometimes growling or both) vocal style,heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere, though many other characteristics and techniques may be employed. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms.
During the 1980s, several thrash and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. This so-called first wave included bands such as Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Immortal and Emperor. The early Norwegian black metal scene developed the style of their forebears into a distinct genre. Norwegian-inspired black metal scenes emerged throughout Europe and North America, although some other scenes developed their own styles independently. Some prominent Swedish bands spawned during this second wave. Bands such as Marduk, Nifelheim and Dark Funeral are notable examples.

Europa Universalis
Europa Universalis is a grand strategy video game released on February 20, 2001 by Paradox Development Studio and distributed in North America by Strategy First. Originally based on a French board game of the same name by Philippe Thibaut, Europa Universalis lets the player take control of one of seven European nations (others are available in different scenarios) from 1492 to 1792, expanding its power through military might, diplomacy, and colonial wealth. The game takes place on a map divided into approximately 1,500 provinces, and proceeds in a pausable real time format. The lead game programmer was Johan Andersson and the lead designer was Philippe Thibaut.
The game became a surprise hit for its great deal of depth and strategy. Paradox used this sudden success to springboard other titles such as Victoria, Crusader Kings, and Hearts of Iron.
Europa Universalis was followed by Europa Universalis II, Europa Universalis III, Europa Universalis: Rome and Europa Universalis IV

Visiting Dracula's Castle (Bran Castle) in Transylvania, Romania
With howling winds we ascended the many steps leading up to the infamous Bran Castle. The castle associated with Bram Stoker's Dracula Castle is a national landmark and monument in Transylvania, Romania (Romanian: Castelul Bran; Hungarian: Törcsvár; German: Törzburg). We found the experience fascinating as most areas of the castle were open for tourists to explore including some dimly lit staircases. After checking out the castle we headed back down to briefly check out a market selling all kinds of trinkets and restaurant featuring hearty Romanian cuisine. So at last the destination we've been waiting for. We have arrived in Bran to visit Bran Castle which may or may not be associated with the Dracula. Hahaha. Let's go!
Oh ho ho, it's going to blow me over.
This is officially one of the windiest places I have ever experienced. The castle sits on a really rocky cliff so you get wind coming in every direction possible. And it is pretty crazy. We're just hiding out in this little nook for now.
Bran Castle sits on the border between Wallachia and Transylvania and it is the setting of Bram Stoker's horror novel Dracula. That being said, there are other castles in Romania linked to the legend of Dracula.
We're now entering the secret staircase.
Now we're checking out the torture chamber rooms and it is pretty gruesome the methods that were used back in the day. It makes feel quite lucky to be alive this present moment.
Overall impressions of Bran Castle? It was phenomenal. What really surprised me is that from a distance it doesn't look that big but when you get inside there is a lot to explore. Like we probably spent well over an hour just checking all of the different rooms, climbing up and down the stairs and just getting an overall impression of the caste.
Alright, so now that we have visited the castle it is time to go for lunch and I am hungry.
So it is very cold day here in Bran and it is also lunchtime so we've popped into a little restaurant and we're trying to warm up with the hottest, heartiest foods we can find. I'm having some soup with some polenta and a cup of tea. Sam's gone with a salad and the beef. Meh, a little healthy a little bland but here we are enjoying our Romanian lunch.
So the food I'm most excited about trying is something called Romanian Mici and if you look down here it's kind of like a pork sausage or a pork roll. And, oh wow, check this out. Oh, that looks good. It almost looks like a spicy sausage.
Mmmmm. That is an amazing sausage. So juicy, so tasty, so flavorful. I love it. Oh, now I'm going to try some next.
So the polenta with cheese has arrived and it looks a little bit different from what I had yesterday. Yesterday my polenta came with cottage cheese and sour cream but this one appears to have cheese melted on top so I think maybe they put it in the oven. It looks like it was kind of baked. Yeah, baked polenta. Look at the gooey cheese. Oh la la. Wow. That's going to be hot. Mmmm.
I think it actually has goat cheese in the middle. Like a salty goat cheese and then mozzarella on top. Pretty good.
After lunch, we did a little wandering around the town and we found that it reminded us of Halloween with all its spooky trinkets and souvenirs.
There is a cool little market nearby the Bran Castle selling all kinds of trinkets including warm hats, Halloween costumes and other kinds of souvenirs.

With howling winds we ascended the many steps leading up to the infamous Bran Castle. The castle associated with Bram Stoker's Dracula Castle is a national landmark and monument in Transylvania, Romania (Romanian: Castelul Bran; Hungarian: Törcsvár; German: Törzburg). We found the experience fascinating as most areas of the castle were open for tourists to explore including some dimly lit staircases. After checking out the castle we headed back down to briefly check out a market selling all kinds of trinkets and restaurant featuring hearty Romanian cuisine. Overall, if you're based in Brasov this makes for a fantastic 'spooky' day trip ;)

Visiting Dracula's Castle (Bran Castle) in Transylvania, Romania Travel Video Transcript:
So at last the destination we've been waiting for. We have arrived in Bran to visit Bran Castle which may or may not be associated with the Dracula. Hahaha. Let's go!
Oh ho ho, it's going to blow me over.
This is officially one of the windiest places I have ever experienced. The castle sits on a really rocky cliff so you get wind coming in every direction possible. And it is pretty crazy. We're just hiding out in this little nook for now.
Bran Castle sits on the border between Wallachia and Transylvania and it is the setting of Bram Stoker's horror novel Dracula. That being said, there are other castles in Romania linked to the legend of Dracula.
We're now entering the secret staircase.
Now we're checking out the torture chamber rooms and it is pretty gruesome the methods that were used back in the day. It makes feel quite lucky to be alive this present moment.
Overall impressions of Bran Castle? It was phenomenal. What really surprised me is that from a distance it doesn't look that big but when you get inside there is a lot to explore. Like we probably spent well over an hour just checking all of the different rooms, climbing up and down the stairs and just getting an overall impression of the caste.
Alright, so now that we have visited the castle it is time to go for lunch and I am hungry.
So it is very cold day here in Bran and it is also lunchtime so we've popped into a little restaurant and we're trying to warm up with the hottest, heartiest foods we can find. I'm having some soup with some polenta and a cup of tea. Sam's gone with a salad and the beef. Meh, a little healthy a little bland but here we are enjoying our Romanian lunch.
So the food I'm most excited about trying is something called Romanian Mici and if you look down here it's kind of like a pork sausage or a pork roll. And, oh wow, check this out. Oh, that looks good. It almost looks like a spicy sausage.
Mmmmm. That is an amazing sausage. So juicy, so tasty, so flavorful. I love it. Oh, now I'm going to try some next.
So the polenta with cheese has arrived and it looks a little bit different from what I had yesterday. Yesterday my polenta came with cottage cheese and sour cream but this one appears to have cheese melted on top so I think maybe they put it in the oven. It looks like it was kind of baked. Yeah, baked polenta. Look at the gooey cheese. Oh la la. Wow. That's going to be hot. Mmmm.
I think it actually has goat cheese in the middle. Like a salty goat cheese and then mozzarella on top. Pretty good.
After lunch, we did a little wandering around the town and we found that it reminded us of Halloween with all its spooky trinkets and souvenirs.
There is a cool little market nearby the Bran Castle selling all kinds of trinkets including warm hats, Halloween costumes and other kinds of souvenirs.

It's biting my ass now. It's not a game anymore puppy. No, hey. Hahahahaha.

If you visit Romania in search of Dracula and the places that are related to this legend, you need to look for the life of Vlad the Impaler. He was a cruel ruler of Wallachia that inspired Bram Stocker to create the character of Count Dracula. Thus, one of the places you need to see while in Romania is Târgoviște Princely Court where Vlad the Impaler, Dracula used to live and rule during medieval times for 7 years long.
The Royal Court ("Curtea Domnească") had been constantly extended, being surrounded by stone walls and a moat. Now it is in ruins with only parts of the walls still intact. Next to the palace you can find Chindiei watch tower (now a symbol of the city) and a church which, in contrast with the rest of the residence, is still completely intact. Climb up in the tower and enjoy the panoramic view over the ruins of Târgoviște Court and the whole city.
If you want to visit the real places connected to Vlad the Impaler, Dracula, The Old Court of Târgoviște is definitely a place where you should go. You can reach the city by train or regular buses from Bucharest, or you can take small group day tours from Bucharest that include the visit here.

This last week-end I received an invitation from ATGR - The Romanian Tourist Guide Association - to join them on their trip to Sighisoara and it was wonderful!
For the ones who do not know this yet, Sighisoara was the hometown of Vlad Dracul (commonly known as Dracula or Vlad the Impaler) who was a dreadful ruler of Wallachia.
I thought it would be a nice opportunity to show you how this wonderful medieval town looks today and also we a few stops on our way, including the Crepe Festival in Prejmer, Brasov which was near an old Fortified Church (where people would store their provisions during times of war).
This episode includs a lot of snow, fun, sun, awesome landscapes and amazing skyline!
I hope you enjoy my trip to Sighisoara as much as I did, and stay tuned because this is just part 1 of the trip!
