11 December 2017, Islamabad—International Mountain Day was celebrated today at an event organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan, with cultural performances, film screenings and talks about Pakistan’s mountain communities and held at the Pakistan National Council of Arts.
On National Voter’s Day, 7 December 2017, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, the President of Pakistan and Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched a new tool bringing voters the information they need, when they need, at their fingertips.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the FATA Secretariat inaugurated the FATA Economic Revitalization Program today at an event in Peshawar. Representatives from USAID and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed the PKR 1.6 billion (US$ 15 million) award for building sustainable livelihoods in three FATA agencies – South Waziristan, North Waziristan and Khyber –affected by insecurity and displacement.
Siksa village is located in Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan. Set amongst towering Himalayan peaks, the remote village is snowbound in the winter. As such, the summer months are critical for education. Yet, lack of access to a safe and reliable source of drinking water led to repeated illness amongst schoolchildren, causing many to miss school.
Islamabad, 5 December 2017 – Ministry of Interior and UNDP jointly organized a high-level panel discussion on “Empowering Youth for a Peaceful, Inclusive and Just Pakistan”. The panel discussion provided a platform to bring together key stakeholders to share field experiences, institutional approaches and lessons learned.
Evacuation drill conducted at a school in Rehri Goth, Karachi, to highlight the significance of school tsunami preparedness and its effectiveness in saving lives from tsunami risk. This is as part of UNDP’s efforts to implement the Sendai Framework of Disaster Risk Reduction, a global initiative to work with local governments to make communities resilient against disasters.
The year 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of UNDP’s close partnership with the world’s governments and peoples to realize our shared dream of a world without poverty, inequality and injustice.
