Try the New macOS Beta

screen-shot-2017-02-10-at-3-07-34-pm

Today you can try out a new Simplenote beta for macOS that was built using Electron, the web technology we used for the Windows and Linux apps. If you’ve used these apps before, this version for macOS should feel right at home. We built this app from the ground up to support all the features that our mobile apps support, including publishing and Markdown.

If you’ve used our native macOS application in the past and have been missing some of the unsupported features like Markdown we encourage you to try this one out and let us know how it compares. The native app won’t go away any time soon, but we’re exploring the possibility of eventually replacing it with the Electron version.

Ready to try it out? Download now!

We’d appreciate any feedback you have on the beta. You can leave a comment on this post or file a new issue on GitHub.

Thanks and happy noting from the Simplenote team!

Today we’re excited to announce that Markdown support has been added to the latest update of Simplenote for iOS.

To enable Markdown for a note, just tap on the ‘Markdown’ button in the note info panel. You can then swipe on the note editor to view the Markdown preview. Once you’ve enabled Markdown for a note, all new notes you create in the future will have it enabled by default. We hope you enjoy this handy new feature!

Multitasking and Performance Improvements in Latest App Updates

oct-2015-updates

Hello, Simplenoters! New updates are now available for iOS, Android and OS X.

Here’s what’s new in each app (in addition to a spiffy new app icon):

iOS

We’ve fine-tuned the app for iOS 9: Simplenote now allows multitasking on supported iPads using both Slide Over and Split View modes. Multitasking is a very handy way to get information copied to and from Simplenote quickly! We also greatly improved the performance of the app when working with large notes and added support for additional languages.

Android

The Android update includes many tweaks to the Material Design-based theme of the app. You’ll now see more native components throughout the app which gives it an even cleaner look. The light theme is also looking better than ever with a new white toolbar. We also tweaked the tablet layout by moving the create post button to the list while viewing in landscape, so it doesn’t get in the way of the note editor.

OS X

In addition to many bug fixes, the OS X app has received a huge performance upgrade in the latest update. You can now work on very large notes without issue.

Dark Theme Now Available for Mac App

Dark Theme for Mac

A few months ago, we launched new versions of our Android and iOS apps that included a dark theme. Today we’re happy to announce that the dark theme is also now available for the Mac app!

The dark theme really helps ease your eyes during those late-night writing sessions. To switch to the new theme, simply select ViewThemeDark from the top menu. Note: you must be running OS X Yosemite or higher to use the dark theme.

You can get the new update on the Mac App Store. Enjoy the update!
