Pacific Fleet may refer to:
The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Southern Ocean (or, depending on definition, to Antarctica) in the south and is bounded by Asia and Australia in the west and the Americas in the east.
At 165.25 million square kilometers (63.8 million square miles) in area, this largest division of the World Ocean—and, in turn, the hydrosphere—covers about 46% of the Earth's water surface and about one-third of its total surface area, making it larger than all of the Earth's land area combined.
The equator subdivides it into the North Pacific Ocean and South Pacific Ocean, with two exceptions: the Galápagos and Gilbert Islands, while straddling the equator, are deemed wholly within the South Pacific. The Mariana Trench in the western North Pacific is the deepest point in the world, reaching a depth of 10,911 metres (35,797 ft).
The eastern Pacific Ocean was first sighted by Europeans in the early 16th century when Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa crossed the Isthmus of Panama in 1513 and discovered the great "southern sea" which he named Mar del Sur. The ocean's current name was coined by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during the Spanish circumnavigation of the world in 1521, as he encountered favourable winds on reaching the ocean. He called it Mar Pacifico, which in both Portuguese and Spanish means "peaceful sea".
Fleet may refer to:
A fleet is a collection of ships or vehicles, with many specific connotations:
A fleet is a saline waterway found in river marshes:

The Russian Navy (Russian: Военно-морской Флот Российской Федерации (ВМФ России), tr. Voyenno-morskoy Flot Rossiyskoy Federatsii (VMF Rossii), lit. Military-Maritime Fleet of the Russian Federation) is the naval arm of the Russian Armed Forces. The present Russian Navy was formed in January 1992, succeeding the Navy of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which had itself succeeded the Soviet Navy following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.
The regular Russian Navy was established by Peter the Great (Peter I) in October 1696. Ascribed to Peter I is the oft quoted statement: "A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both." The symbols of the Russian Navy, the St. Andrew's flag and ensign (seen to the right), and most of its traditions were established personally by Peter I.
Neither Jane's Fighting Ships nor the International Institute for Strategic Studies list any standard ship prefixes for the vessels of the Russian Navy. For official U.S. Navy photographs, they are sometimes referred to as "RFS"—"Russian Federation Ship". However, the Russian Navy does not use this convention for itself.
The title Defence Minister, Minister for Defence, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State for Defence, Secretary of National Defense or some similar variation, is assigned to the person in a cabinet position in charge of a Ministry of Defence, which regulates the armed forces in sovereign states. The role of a defence minister varies considerably from country to country; in some the minister is only in charge of general budget matters and procurement of equipment; while in others the minister is also, in addition, an integral part of the operational military chain of command.
Prior to the 20th century, there were in most countries separate ministerial posts for the land forces (often called "minister for war" etc.) and the naval forces. Since the end of World War II, the title has changed from war to defence, and has often involved putting a single defence minister in charge of all the armed forces. Another common reform which occurred at the end of World War II was to place the defence minister in a national security council, war cabinet, or a "Kitchen Cabinet", which allows the head of government or head of state to coordinate military, diplomatic and economic activities.

I'm trying out Battle Fleet 2 a neat Naval Turn Based Strategy Game. Battle Fleet 2's gameplay is presented through two levels. It features a interactive singleplayer campaign taking form as battle for the Pacific on an open map. It also features decently indepth tactical battles which are playable in multiplayer or single player. Battle Fleet 2 @ http://www.battlefleetgame.com/bf2.html
"Japanese Kamakaze's spread fear through the Allied fleets in the Pacific. Such tactics might seem wasteful of human life today, but the rationale for them was simple. By 1945, the Allies had overwhelming air superiority and often flew more advanced fighters with very experienced pilots. Rookie Japanese aviators had little chance of success in conventional attacks and were usually shot down before even reaching the target. But, training for Kamikaze missions for young new pilots was quick and easy, tactics were simple and older obsolete aircraft could be used. (For the most part, experienced Japanese aces were held in reserve and not used on these missions.) Though the vast majority of Kamikazes were shot down or missed their targets, a small number got through with devastating effect." Ze...
The Nimitz-class supercarriers are a class of ten nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in service with the United States Navy. The lead ship of the class is named for World War II United States Pacific Fleet commander Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the U.S. Navy's last fleet admiral. With an overall length of 1,092 ft (333 m) and full-load displacements of over 100,000 long tons, they have been the largest warships built and in service, although they are being eclipsed by the upcoming Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Instead of the gas turbines or diesel-electric systems used for propulsion on many modern warships, the carriers use two A4W pressurized water reactors which drive four propeller shafts and can produce a maximum speed of over 30 knots (56 km/h) and maximum power of aroun...
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson speaks to U.S. Navy service members and attendees during an Honors and Heritage ceremony celebrating the Navy's 240th birthday at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The ceremony featured the traditional ringing of the USS Arizona bell, which was tolled eight times to signal the end of the watch, and the end of the current birthday year. After a reading of the Navy’s traditional heritage message, the bell was rung a ninth and final time to signify the start of a new watch and the beginning of a new year in the Navy’s history. http://www.dvidshub.net/video/428425/submarine-force-pacific-fleet-celebrates-navy-birthday-with-bell-tolling-ceremony
Banquet Address: A View from the US Pacific Fleet, by Admiral Harry Harris, Jr., Commander US Pacific Fleet, at the Union Club of British Columbia
American military strategy in the Pacific during World War II hinged on the debates over the rival end game strategies of invasion versus blockade and bombardment, and in particular, Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King's role in the development of the strategy and what light it sheds on U.S. civil-military relationships. King, in keeping with carefully honed navy strategy between the wars, was adamantly opposed to any invasion of Japan. But he also realized that if he forced a showdown on this in the first half of 1945, he likely could not prevail. He advised the Joint Chiefs of Staff that he agreed that the JCS must issue the order for the invasion so that this could be prepared as an option, but that he expected they will revisit the issue of whether they really must invade Japan in August or ...
