The Colosseum or Coliseum (/kɒləˈsiːəm/ kol-ə-SEE-əm), also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium; Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio [amfiteˈaːtro ˈflaːvjo] or Colosseo [kolosˈsɛːo]), is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and sand, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir Titus. Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96). These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheatre was named in Latin for its association with their family name (Flavius).
The Colosseum could hold, it is estimated, between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, having an average audience of some 65,000; it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.
Valentyne Suite was the second album released by the band Colosseum. It was Vertigo Records' first album release, and reached number 15 in the UK Albums Chart in 1969.
Though the song "The Kettle" is officially listed as having been written by Dick Heckstall-Smith and Jon Hiseman, a credit which is confirmed by Hiseman's liner notes for the album, bassist and producer Tony Reeves later claimed that it was written by guitarist and vocalist James Litherland.
Valentyne Suite was originally written with "Beware the Ides of March" as the final movement, but since "Beware the Ides of March" had already been released in the UK on Those Who Are About to Die Salute You, "The Grass is Always Greener" was substituted for the final movement in the UK release. Compact Disc issues of the suite follow the track listing of the UK release.
Full Length LP is the debut album by the Huntington Beach, California punk rock band Guttermouth, released in 1991 by Dr. Strange Records. It introduced the band's style of fast, abrasive punk rock with tongue-in-cheek humor and sarcastic lyrics. The album was originally released as an LP but was repackaged the following year as a CD including tracks from the band's first 2 EPs Puke and Balls, as well as the previously unreleased tracks "Malted Vomit" and "Ghost." It was re-released again in 1996 by Nitro Records under the title The Album Formerly Known as Full Length LP.
The album proved to be a success for the band, expanding their fan base and giving them opportunities to play shows all over southern California alongside other popular punk rock bands. An animated music video was made for the song “1, 2, 3…Slam!” and played on local punk rock and skateboarding video programs. Many of the songs from Full Length would remain staples in the band's live set throughout their career.
Jon Hiseman (born Philip John Hiseman, 21 June 1944 in Woolwich, London) is an English drummer, recording engineer, record producer and music publisher.
In the mid-1960s Hiseman played in sessions such as the early Arthur Brown single, "Devil's Grip". In 1966 he replaced Ginger Baker in the Graham Bond Organisation and also played for a brief spell with Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. He then joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in 1968 playing on the iconic album 'Bare Wires'. In April 1968 he left to form what has been critically claimed as the "seminal" jazz rock/progressive rock band, Colosseum. Colosseum disbanded in November 1971, although Hiseman later formed Colosseum II with Don Airey and Gary Moore in 1975.
Between these two versions of Colosseum, Hiseman formed the band Tempest with Allan Holdsworth, Paul Williams and Colosseum bandmate Mark Clarke. Ollie Halsall joined the band temporarily making the band a quintet but Holdsworth left the group along with Williams, leaving Halsall to handle all guitar and vocal duties.
Dave Greenslade (born 18 January 1943) is an English composer and keyboard player. He has played 20 years with Colosseum and in his own eponymous band, Greenslade, and others including If and Chris Farlowe's Thunderbirds.
Greenslade was born in Woking, Surrey, England. Among his works are, Cactus Choir, The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony (with art by Patrick Woodroffe) and Music from the Discworld. Television work includes music for the BBC series Gangsters (1975–1978), Bird of Prey (1982–1984) and A Very Peculiar Practice (1986).
Dave Greenslade was involved in Colosseum, who after split in 1971 reunited from 1994 to 2015.

The Colosseum is located in Rome, Italy. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre,it is an oval amphitheatre, and the largest ever built. The arena hosted a variety of blood sports as entertainment. with ceremonies and shows that lasted for 100 days. The schedule for the day consisted of men hunting dangerous animals and executions of criminals, but the main event would be the gladiatorial combat. Ancient writers wrote about mock sea battles or naumachiae before the Hypogeum was developed . It is speculated that hydraulic mechanisms were used to flood the arena rapidly for such naval battles. Travel video about destination Colosseum of Rome in Italy. The Coliseum of Rome is the most monumental and impressive amphitheatre in the world. It is estimated that its construction began in the year 72 AD and it was here that the Roman’s desire for outrageous performance and violent entertainment were fully satisfied. The massive interior of its oval grounds could seat 70,000. Surrounded by tranquillity as though within a city wall, the Coliseum is a dominant focal point among the Roman hills. A gorge-like labyrinth of walkways and subterranean chambers descends deep into the earth, formerly occupied by gladiators, slaves and caged animals ready for the slaughter.

I have had several people ask about our visit to the Colosseum in Rome Italy so here is a video of visit in May 2012. We originally put photos on-line. View and hear our tour guide tell about the Colosseum which is just east of Rome. Originally where a lake was, construction was started in 72AD and completed in just eight years by Titus who used prisoners from Judah. The Colosseum was built on the site of Nero's palace. Hear why it was built, by whom and about the staging of deadly combats of gladiators and wild animal fights for public viewing. We found this tour to be very interesting. It is about 26 Minutes. long.

I'm having trouble hearing the loud voice in my mind
It's screaming out the warnings which are happier left behind
Like a ship which ploughs untroubled through a sea of burning oil
So our heads are firmly stuck in sand and all our thoughts recoil
Three score and ten
Is all we're men
And damn what happens then
Sunlight glistens brightly on the metals meant for war
East and West smile across the wall, each are afraid to draw
Black and white wait to fight but neither can win at all
And the mess they'll leave won't be fit to breathe
but choking, men will still call:
Three score and ten
Is all we're man
And damn what happens then
The puppets dance and nod their heads while gold pulls all the strings
Their claims to rule and guide us all are as worthless as their grins
They take the young and teach them death but call it bravery
But soon there'll be no-one left to fight; there'll be no-one left to be
Three score and ten
Is all we're man
And damn what happens then
spoken:
Run swiftly down the tunnel of time
Past the stones of discontent
Through the thorns of pain
And on
Run swiftly down the tunnel of time
The sunshine of life
The storm and after, the rain
And on
Run swiftly on
Life doesn't seem long
The lessons of the past
Were taught to last
So teach the brain
And never the rain
Shall wash the stain
On the flaking tomb of man
Three score and ten
What happens then?
