We walked around the spectacular island's first phase completed waterfront -- La Croisette -- a lively 2.5 km promenade lined with fine shopping and dining developed by the best european the best French, Italian and Spanish architecture, enjoy the video !
The Pearl ist eine unvollendete in das Meer gebaute Inselgruppe. Anfang April besuchten wir Porto Arabia auf dem Areal des Haupthafen der Perlenfischer von Qatar. Entlang der spectackulären 2,5 km langen Uferpromenade - La Croisette - entstanden viele Restaurants und gehobene Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, die bedeutender Architekten aus Südeuropa kreierten. Der Blick entlang der Promenade, auf die zahlreichen Yachten und das türkisfarbene klare Wasser machten diesen Besuch unvergessen, viel Spaß beim Anschauen !

The Pearl-Qatar
The Pearl-Qatar (Arabic: اللؤلؤة قطر) in Doha, Qatar, is an artificial island spanning nearly four million square metres. It is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. As of January 2015, there are 12,000 residents.
Once fully completed, The Pearl will create over 32 kilometres of new coastline, for use as a residential estate with an expected 18,831 dwellings and 45,000 residents by 2018. Developed by United Development Company and planned by architecture and design firm Callison, the island is located 350 metres offshore of Doha's West Bay Lagoon area.
In 2004, when the project was first revealed, the initial cost of constructing the island stood at $2.5 billion. It is now believed the project will cost $15 billion upon completion.
Etymology
The name "The Pearl" was chosen because the island is being built on one of Qatar's previous major pearl diving sites. Qatar was one of the major pearl traders of Asia before the Japanese introduced cheaper more affordable pearls just before Qatar's oil boom. The Pearl Qatar will help represent Qatar's rich past in the pearl industry. Once completed The Pearl will resemble a string of pearls.

Qatar (/ˈkæˌtɑːr/,
i/ˈkɑːtɑːr/, /ˈkɑːtər/ or i/kəˈtɑːr/;Arabic: قطر Qaṭar [ˈqɑtˤɑr]; local vernacular pronunciation: [ɡɪtˤɑr]), officially the State of Qatar (Arabic: دولة قطر Dawlat Qaṭar), is a sovereign country located in Southwest Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. A strait in the Persian Gulf separates Qatar from the nearby island of Bahrain, as well as sharing sea borders with the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
Following Ottoman rule, Qatar became a British protectorate in the early 20th century until gaining independence in 1971. Qatar has been ruled by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century. Qatar is a hereditary constitutional monarchy and its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The constitution was overwhelmingly approved in a constitutional referendum, with almost 98% in favour. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million: 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. After Saudi Arabia and Oman, Qatar is the most conservative society in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Pearl
A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusc. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes (baroque pearls) occur. The finest quality natural pearls have been highly valued as gemstones and objects of beauty for many centuries. Because of this, pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.
The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but are extremely rare. These wild pearls are referred to as natural pearls. Cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters and freshwater mussels make up the majority of those currently sold. Imitation pearls are also widely sold in inexpensive jewelry, but the quality of their iridescence is usually very poor and is easily distinguished from that of genuine pearls. Pearls have been harvested and cultivated primarily for use in jewelry, but in the past were also used to adorn clothing. They have also been crushed and used in cosmetics, medicines and paint formulations.

The Pearl in Doha is a uncompleted artificial island group, We visited in april 2013 Porto Arabia, the Pearl-Qatar's main harbour. We walked around the spectacular island's first phase completed waterfront -- La Croisette -- a lively 2.5 km promenade lined with fine shopping and dining developed by the best european the best French, Italian and Spanish architecture, enjoy the video !
The Pearl ist eine unvollendete in das Meer gebaute Inselgruppe. Anfang April besuchten wir Porto Arabia auf dem Areal des Haupthafen der Perlenfischer von Qatar. Entlang der spectackulären 2,5 km langen Uferpromenade - La Croisette - entstanden viele Restaurants und gehobene Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, die bedeutender Architekten aus Südeuropa kreierten. Five of the 13 beaches closed due to the territory's worst oil spill were reopened after workers collected 194 tonnes of palm oil recovered from the sea surface and at the beaches. Two vessels collided in the Pearl River Estuary southwest of Hong Kong on August 3, spilling at least 1,000 tonnes of palm oil. One-fifth of the oil reached Hong Kong....

The steamboats Delta Queen and Delta King, had they not been obtained for the Navy in the pre-Pearl Harbor build up in World War II, may have been highly modified into diesel powered towboats, cut down to barges or some other uses that would have seen them cut up for scrap decades ago possibly even in early 1940s after a few more years of being out of service....
