Trail
A trail is usually a path, track or unpaved lane or road, though the term is also applied, in North America, to routes along rivers, and sometimes to highways. In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland path or footpath is the preferred term for a walking trail. Some trails are single use and can only be used for walking, cycling, horse riding, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, etc., others, as in the case of a bridleway in the UK, are multi-use, and can be used by walkers, cyclists and equestrians.
There are also unpaved trails used by dirt bikes and other off road vehicles. In some places, like the Alps, trails are used for moving cattle and other livestock (see transhumance). In the US historically, the term was used for a route into or through wild territory used by emigrants (e.g. the Oregon Trail).
Usage
In Australia, the term track can be used interchangeably with trail, and can refer to anything from a dirt road to an unpaved pedestrian path. The term trail gained popularity during World War II, when many servicemen from the United States were stationed in Australia, which probably influenced its being adopted by elements of the Australian media at the time (see Kokoda Track).

Red carpet
A red carpet is traditionally used to mark the route taken by heads of state on ceremonial and formal occasions, and has in recent decades been extended to use by VIPs and celebrities at formal events.
History
The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:
Agamemnon, knowing that only gods walk on such luxury, responds with trepidation:
Oriental carpets in Renaissance painting often show rugs and carpets, patterned but with red often the main background colour, laid on the steps to a throne, or on a dais where rulers or sacred figures are placed.
A red carpet was rolled out to a river to welcome the arrival of United States president James Monroe in 1821. In 1902, The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded their 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is believed to be the origin of the phrase "red-carpet treatment". Film premieres are often laid down with red carpets.

On the Red Carpet
On The Red Carpet is an American syndicated show which carries celebrity news, Hollywood events and features about celebrity style produced by ABC Owned Television Stations for KABC-TV and Disney–ABC Domestic Television.
History
On the Red Carpet was originally launched in 2002 as an effort by KABC to brand their local coverage of the Academy Awards leading into the national coverage from ABC. They decided to continue the site and build the traffic.
On March 14, 2010, the Sunday after the Academy Awards, On the Red Carpet was launched as a weekly series for KABC. Seven other ABC Owned Television Stations soon carried the show, with San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV San Diego also following.
The show began to be carried by the national digital subchannel, the Live Well Network, also owned by AOTS, in the fall of 2010, with the addition of Chris Balish, as co-host. Balish left the show in 2012. The series produced their live Oscar special in 2012, which featured the college journalist winners of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences's Red Carpet Journalist Contest assisting in the interviews.

The Red
"The Red" is the breakthrough single from the band Chevelle. It is the fifth track and lead single from their major label debut, Wonder What's Next, released in 2002. Former Major League Baseball player Geoff Blum used "The Red" as his intro song when he came up to bat.
The song is about dealing with frustration and anger. Its music video depicts an anger management seminar where vocalist Pete Loeffler ascends a podium and sings the verse lyrics. The video then breaks to Chevelle performing the heavy chorus under red lighting. The agitated seminar participants, which include band members Sam and Joe, begin tossing folding chairs. By the end of the song, it is revealed that the fight happened to be just a dream.

She then put his skin on a meat hook, cooked his head and parts of his body and placed them together with vegetables on plates with placecards with his children's names.

In July 2007, O’Reilly was found guilty by a Central Criminal Court jury and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife at their home in the Naul, Co Dublin. Rachel O’Reilly’s badly beaten body was found in the bedroom of her home by her mother on October 4th, 2004 and in the intervening period O’Reilly had appeared as a guest on the topic of her death on RTÉ’s Late Late Show. In July 2007, O’Reilly was found guilty by a Central Criminal Court jury and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife at their home in the Naul, Co Dublin.
Rachel O’Reilly’s badly beaten body was found in the bedroom of her home by her mother on October 4th, 2004 and in the intervening period O’Reilly had appeared as a guest on the topic of her death on RTÉ’s Late Late Show.
Speaking on behalf of the Court of Appeal, Mr Justice George Birmingham said it was an “unacceptable strategy” to raise the arguments O’Reilly had raised at this point.
O’Reilly’s application was based on events that occurred on the third day of his Central Criminal Court trial when a portion of the book of evidence was found in the jury room, the judge said.
It was clear, from the way in which the issue was approached by the trial judge and counsel at the time, that O’Reilly was fully informed and fully engaged with what was happening at the time, he said.
Having been so aware and so engaged, to raise the argument now after the trial and after his earlier appeal, was an “unacceptable strategy,” Mr Justice Birmingham said.
Accordingly, Mr Justice Birmingham, who sat with President of the Court of Appeal Mr Justice Sean Ryan and Mr Justice John Edwards, dismissed the appeal.
As a result, O’Reilly’s application under section 2 of the Criminal Procedure Act will not now proceed to full hearing.
Counsel for the Director of Public Prosecutions, Brendan Grehan SC, had asked the Court of Appeal to dismiss O’Reilly’s application as an “abuse of process” because it was not based on any new or newly discovered facts as required under the Act.
On day four of O’Reilly’s trial for murder the court registrar was advised that a portion of the book of evidence had been left in the jury room.
Trial judge Mr Justice Barry White had made it clear, Mr Grehan said, that he would discharge the jury if any of them had read any portion of the book of evidence, otherwise the trial would continue.
The foreman of the jury was then asked whether any juror had read any portion of the book of evidence and his reply was: “not to my knowledge, no”.
Mr Grehan said that exchange took place with 11 jurors, the trial judge, O’Reilly and all counsel present in court.
The suggestion that one of the jurors simply sat there and stayed dumb did not arise because the “eyes of everybody in court” would have been looking at their reactions.
Mr Grehan said O’Reilly met with his legal team before the court sat, he was informed of what had transpired and informed that if any of the jurors had read any part of the book of evidence the jury would be discharged.
Not only was no application made to discharge the jury but those were O’Reilly’s instructions to his legal team - that if nobody had read any portion of the book of evidence the trial could proceed, Mr Grehan said.
It was “impossible to contemplate how the significance could not have been appreciated” by O’Reilly at the time and his case was “simply unstateable” and “bound to fail,” Mr Grehan said.
Counsel said the “very experienced” Mr Justice White had rigorously assessed the evidence in the trial and O’Reilly had enjoyed favourable rulings up until that point. Mr Justice White had also ruled inadmissible O’Reilly’s appearance on the Late Late Show, Mr Grehan said.
There should be finality to criminal trials, Mr Grehan said, not just for the director or the accused but for victims and their families also.
