That's all from me this morning.

Craig will see you at 6am tomorrow and I'll see you on Monday morning.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Same here, mate, same here.

While some readers are writing in telling us the new station names are "boring", many like that they are "practical".

One agreed with comments they were "uninspired" but said "this is a GOOD thing!".

"Great names that actually give you an idea of where the stations are!"

"The new station names are an astonishing victory for common sense. They all actually tell you where you are! Great job from the committee resisting political symbolism in favour of helping people get around. Renaming the station in West Melbourne very sensible for the same reason."

Keep the feedback coming.

Police are cleaning up after protesters spilt woodchips on the steps at state parliament. It is the same group behind the recent Manus Island protests.

We're getting a mixed respond from readers to the new Metro Tunnel station names.

Here are some thoughts from those who are unhappy.

"Anzac is too political. Bad choice."

"Nice and Anglo (sarcasm). Though at least the state library one might make people think about books and education."

"Why State Library why not omit the State part. Parliament does not have State in it."

The station under City Square will be called Town Hall Station.

Same-sex marriage passes historic hurdle as Labor moves to veto religious freedoms

The legalisation of same-sex marriage has moved a step closer after the Senate effectively passed a same-sex marriage bill for the first time in Australian history overnight.

The bill breezed through its second-reading stage, and every amendment from Coalition senators was defeated in a debate that lasted late into the night.

A proposal allowing civil celebrants to refuse to perform gay weddings - backed by Attorney-General George Brandis and Resources Minister Matt Canavan - was rejected 25 to 38 just after 11pm.

A few more train lines are running behind this morning.

Cranbourne, Frankston, Hurstbridge and Pakenham all are having minor delays. Check here.

Some people are disappointed with the new station names.

"I don't mind Anzac, but the rest - I'd nearly prefer Station McStationface!" says 3AW's Neil Mitchell.

The State Library appears happy with theirs.

Tell us what you think.

Premier Daniel Andrews is busy tweeting all the names of the new stations.

  • The station at Arden will be named North Melbourne
  • The existing North Melbourne will be renamed West Melbourne

About a dozen more protesters have shown up at Parliament House, spreading woodchips on the steps.

The person abseiling off the building was holding a sign saying "Don't f___ the Kuark".

The Kuark is an area of rainforest, home to endangered animals, in East Gippsland.

The state government has refused to confirm a report that shoppers will be seeing armed guards at shopping malls and their local supermarkets in a bid to stop terrorist attacks.

News Corp is reporting that Protective Services Officers (PSOs) would be deployed to these suburban locations to deter would-be terrorists.

But Victoria Police and the police union had no details on the plan - and the state government was vague when asked about it.

We'll bring you more as it comes to light.

Police have released an image of the man given a potentially dangerous dose of medication in a bid to find him.

Police are urgently looking for this man.

An urgent search overnight for a man given a potentially dangerous dose of medication in Melbourne's north has so far failed to find him.

The man had been given three types medication - Glycoprep, Aplcoprep and Ducolax - at a Broadmeadows pharmacy on Pascoe Vale Road at 5.50pm on Wednesday.

But the dosage could be wrong, and the man is now at risk if he takes it, said police spokeswoman Leading Senior Constable Lee Thomson.

"The dosage is believed to be incorrect and could pose a serious health risk if consumed as per the instructions given to the man," she said.

His identity is unknown, however, because he used a letter from a hospital rather a script with his name and address on file.

All trains are running on time this running, except the Frankston Line, which has minor delays due to a faulty signal near Glenhuntly Station.

All buse and tram services are reported to also be running on time.

We're in for yet another scorching day, with a top of 34 degrees forecast for today.
