The AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), formerly known as Fusion, is marketing term for a series of 64-bit microprocessors from AMD designed to act as a CPU and graphics accelerator (GPU) on a single chip.
AMD announced the first generation APUs, Llano for high-performance and Brazos for low-power devices in January 2011. The second-generation Trinity for high-performance and Brazos-2 for low-power devices were announced in June 2012. The third-generation Kaveri for high performance devices was launched in January 2014, while Kabini and Temash for low-power devices were announced in summer 2013.
The Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One eighth generation video game consoles both use semi-custom third-generation low-power APUs.
Although it doesn't use the name "APU", Intel Corporation produces CPU-GPU combinations like its Skylake that are architecturally very similar.
The AMD Fusion project started in 2006 with the aim of developing a system on a chip that combined a CPU with a GPU on a single die. AMD took a key step toward realising such a vision when it acquired the graphics chipset manufacturer ATI in 2006. The project reportedly required three internal iterations of the Fusion concept to create a product deemed worthy of release. Reasons contributing to the delay of the project include the technical difficulties of combining a CPU and GPU on the same die at a 45 nm process, and conflicting views on what the role of the CPU and GPU should be within the project.
Processor, processor unit or processing unit may refer to:
A stock exchange or bourse is an exchange where stock brokers and traders can buy and/or sell stocks (also called shares), bonds, and other securities. Stock exchanges may also provide facilities for issue and redemption of securities and other financial instruments, and capital events including the payment of income and dividends. Securities traded on a stock exchange include stock issued by listed companies, unit trusts, derivatives, pooled investment products and bonds. Stock exchanges often function as "continuous auction" markets, with buyers and sellers consummating transactions at a central location, such as the floor of the exchange.
To be able to trade a security on a certain stock exchange, it must be listed there. Usually, there is a central location at least for record keeping, but trade is increasingly less linked to such a physical place, as modern markets use electronic networks, which gives them advantages of increased speed and reduced cost of transactions. Trade on an exchange is restricted to brokers who are members of the exchange. In recent years, various other trading venues, such as electronic communication networks, alternative trading systems and "dark pools" have taken much of the trading activity away from traditional stock exchanges.
APU or Apu may refer to:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) is an American worldwide semiconductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, United States, that develops computer-processors and related technologies for business and consumer markets. While initially it manufactured its own processors, the company became fabless after GlobalFoundries was spun off in 2009. AMD's main products include microprocessors, motherboard chipsets, embedded processors and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers, and embedded systems applications.
AMD is the second-largest supplier and only significant rival to Intel in the market for x86-based microprocessors. Since acquiring ATI in 2006, AMD and its competitor Nvidia have dominated the discrete graphics processor unit (GPU) market.
Advanced Micro Devices was formally incorporated on May 1, 1969, by Jerry Sanders, along with seven of his colleagues from Fairchild Semiconductor. Sanders, an electrical engineer who was the director of marketing at Fairchild, had like many Fairchild executives grown frustrated with the increasing lack of support, opportunity, and flexibility within that company, and decided to leave to start his own semiconductor company. The previous year Robert Noyce, who had invented the first practical integrated circuit or microchip in 1959 at Fairchild, had left Fairchild together with Gordon Moore and founded the semiconductor company Intel in July 1968.
With Fusion technology from AMD, the PC industry will be changed forever. AMD is incorporating multi-core CPU (x86) technology, a powerful DirectX®11-capable discrete-level graphics and parallel processing engine onto a single die to create the first Accelerated Processing Unit (APU). AMD today announced its 6th Generation A-Series Processor, the world’s first high-performance Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) in a System-on-Chip (SoC) design. Previously codenamed “Carrizo”, the 6th Generation AMD A-Series Processor takes advantage of extensive AMD processor and graphics IP enabling exceptional computing experiences not possible before. The 6th Generation AMD A-Series Processor is the most versatile notebook processor ever produced, built to excel at today’s and tomorrow’s consumer and business applications, delivering premium streaming entertainment, unmatched smooth online gaming, and innovative computing experiences, with all day unplugged performance.
Heterogeneous or Hybrid computing is about using the best processor for the job, combining the CPU and the GPU for high-powered computing. The conventional idea that computers will double in speed about every two years is no longer true. Computers are getting wider, not faster. In this talk, you will learn why this is and how GPUs can help. You'll also learn what the CUDA platform is, as well as a brief introduction to CUDA C too show you it's very simple to unlock the massively parallel computational power of a GPU.

This is a re-uploaded video that I completed a few months back on a separate channel that I have since deleted. However, the technology that was talked of has not changed much since then. This is a basic build guide. The final product does not include a dedicated graphics card. However, if the user would like to run games at higher than average settings and frame rates, one would be necessary in the future. The graphics of the A10-6800K are not powerful enough to max anything out other than maybe Minecraft and Team Fortress 2. Thanks for watching! As said in the video, a lot of tech reviews (mostly on gaming keyboards, mice, headsets, etc.) are coming out soon, so subscribe if interested. Some of my common viewers may recognize this laptop from a prior video... Well, it's back again. The previous time I had it, I had intended to replace the motherboard. But the customer did not want to wait for 2 weeks for a motherboard to arrive, so I provided the reflow option, and advised that the repair is hit or miss. The customer opted for the reflow. The motherboard lasted roughly 4 months after the reflow... and here it is again. Instead of replacing the socket S1 motherboard with another S1 board, I decided tyo convert this laptop to use the more modern and reliable APU platform. Since this laptop's offered on AMD CPU-NB, AMD APU, and Intel platforms, the swap process simply consisted of ordering the FS1 motherboard, FS1 APU, and a cooling heatpipe/fan. Although this thing's back ...
