Islam (/ˈɪslɑːm/;Arabic: الإسلام‎, al-ʾIslām IPA: [alʔisˈlaːm]) is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a religious text considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Allāh), and, for the vast majority of adherents, by the teachings and normative example (called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith) of Muhammad (c. 570–8 June 632 CE), considered by most of them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim (sometimes spelled "Moslem").

Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and that the purpose of existence is to worship God. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Muslims maintain that the previous messages and revelations have been partially misinterpreted over time, they are nevertheless all obliged, according to the Qur'an, to treat the older scriptures with the utmost respect.

Zakir Naik

Zakir Naik (born 18 October 1965 in Mumbai, India) is an Indian Islamic preacher, who has been called an "authority on comparative religion", "perhaps the most influential Salafi ideologue in India", and "the world's leading Salafi evangelist". He is the founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), and founder of the "comparative religion" Peace TV channel, through which he reaches a reported 100 million viewers. Unlike many Islamic preachers, his lectures are colloquial, given in English not Urdu or Arabic, and he wears a suit and tie rather than traditional garb.

Before becoming a public speaker, he trained as a medical doctor. He has published booklet versions of lectures on Islam and comparative religion. Although he has publicly disclaimed sectarianism in Islam, he is regarded by some as an exponent of the Salafi ideology, and, by some, as a radical Islamic televangelist propagating Wahhabism.

Biography

Zakir Naik was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He attended Kishinchand Chellaram College and studied medicine at Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital and later the University of Mumbai, where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).

Spoken word

Spoken word is a style of entertainment involving performance-based poetry that primarily focuses on the aesthetics of word play and story-telling. It often includes collaboration and experimentation with other art forms such as music, theater, and dance. Performers may weave in poetic components - such as rhyme, repetition, rhythm, improvisation, and other traditional elements of poetry.

History

The art of spoken word has existed for many millennia. The tradition of the spoken word is particular to cultures around the world when oral traditions were the means to pass on the genealogical, historical, cultural knowledge and traditions of different geographical sects of indigenous peoples and civilizations; it was particularly steeped in the African traditions that also included drumming and dancing as a means to reinforce cultural mores, spiritual incantations, social practices and world views. This can also be evidenced in Native American and Aboriginal cultures. The Ancient Greeks included Greek lyric which is similar to spoken-word poetry in their Olympic Games.

Top Five is a 2014 American comedy film written and directed by Chris Rock. The film, which stars Rock, Rosario Dawson, and Gabrielle Union, was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie follows New York City comedian and film star Andre Allen (Rock), who has to confront his past and comedic career while doing an interview with journalist Chelsea Brown (Dawson). The film was released on December 12, 2014, by Paramount Pictures.

Plot

New York Times reporter Chelsea Brown is spending a day interviewing comedian and recovering alcoholic Andre Allen, star of the hit film franchise Hammy The Bear, about a cop in a bear suit. He is attempting a foray into serious films with Uprize, in which he portrays Haitian Revolution figure Dutty Boukman, and sensitive to criticism, particularly by Times critic James Nielson, whose previous reviews of Andre's work have been negative and insulting. As the interview begins in his limousine, Andre recalls his lowest point, when he was in Houston in 2003 and met Jazzy Dee, who supplied him with drugs, alcohol and women. Yet after Jazzy refused to pay the women, they contended they were raped, leading to Andre's arrest.

I attended madrassas, that is, Islamic schools, and memorized large parts of the Quran. As a child, I lived in Mecca for a time and frequently visited the Grand Mosque. As a teenager, I sympathized with the Muslim Brotherhood . At 22 while my family was living in Kenya, my father arranged my marriage to a member of our family clan, a man that I had never met. I ran away, made my way to Holland, studied there and eventually was elected a member of the Dutch parliament. Now I live in the United States. In short, I have seen Islam from the inside and the outside. I believe that a reform of Islam is necessary and possible. And only Muslims can make that reform a reality. But we in the West cannot remain on the sidelines as though the outcome of this struggle has nothing to do with us. If the jihadists win and the hope for a reformed Islam dies, the rest of the world will pay a terrible price. The terror attacks in New York, London, Madrid, Paris and many other places are only a preview for what is to come. For this reason, I believe that it’s foolish to insist, as Western leaders habitually do, that the violent acts committed in the name of Islam can somehow be divorced from the religion itself. For more than a decade, my message has been simple: Islam is not a religion of peace. When I assert this, I do not mean that Islamic belief makes all Muslims violent. This is manifestly not the case: There are many millions of peaceful Muslims in the world. What I do say is that the call to violence and the justification for it are explicitly stated in the sacred texts of Islam. Moreover, this theologically sanctioned violence is there to be activated by any number of offenses, including but not limited to adultery, blasphemy, homosexuality and apostasy—that is, to leave Islam. Those who tolerate this intolerance do so at their peril. As someone who has known what it is to live without freedom, I watch in amazement as those who call themselves liberals and progressives—people who claim to believe so fervently in individual liberty and minority rights—make common cause with the forces in the world that manifestly pose the greatest threats to that very freedom and those very minorities. In 2014 I was invited to accept an honorary degree from Brandeis University for the work I have done on behalf of women's rights in the Muslim world. That invitation was withdrawn after professors and students protested my criticism of Islam. My subsequent "disinvitation," as it came to be called, was no favor to Muslims—just the opposite. By labeling critical examination of Islam as inherently "racist," we make the chances of reformation far less likely. There are no limits on criticism of Christianity at American universities…or anywhere else for that matter. Why should there be of Islam? Instead of contorting Western intellectual traditions so as not to offend our Muslim fellow citizens, we need to defend both those traditions and the Muslim dissidents who take great risks to promote them. We should support these brave men and women in every way possible. Imagine a platform for Muslim dissidents that communicated their message through YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Dan bagi yang Muslim, kita dilarang menghina tuhan dari non-Muslim. Allah telah berfirman: “Dan janganlah kamu memaki sembahan-sembahan yang mereka sembah selain Allah, karena mereka nanti akan memaki Allah dengan melampaui batas tanpa pengetahuan” (QS. Al An’am: 108). Biografi Dr. Zakir Naik: Zakir Naik terlahir pada 18 Oktober, 1965 Mumbai (Bombay pada waktu itu) beliau adalah seorang pembicara umum Muslim India, dan penulis keislaman dan perbandingan agama. Sejak 1991 ia telah menjadi seorang ulama yang terlibat dalam dakwah Islam dan perbandingan agama. Rekaman video dan DVD ceramahnya banyak didistribusikan. Beliau adalah pemilik Peace TV, sebuah stasiun televisi Islami. Zakir Naik juga adalah pendiri dan presiden Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) sebuah organisasi nirlaba. Topik yang sering ia bicarakan mencakup: Islam dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Modern, Persamaan Islam dan Kristen, Kristologi, Islam dan Sekularisme, Ketuhanan Yesus Kristus, Penyaliban Yesus, Ketuhanan Yesus, Nubuat Nabi Muhammad dalam Bibel, Nubuat Nabi Muhammad dalam Kitab Hindu, Nubuat Nabi Muhammad dalam Kitab Buddha, dsb. Jika kita melihat tayangan video Dr. Zakir Naik di Youtube, ceramah beliau tidak hanya hanya orang Islam saja juga oleh kristen, hindu, buddha, bahkan ateisme. Dan kita lihat dari ceramah-ceramahnya di YouTube, banyak orang-orang non-Muslim tersebut termasuk pendeta, pandid, dsb yang tadinya melakukan debat agama dengan beliau namun akhirnya masuk Islam (menjadi muallaf) di acara beliau. Mereka memberikan kesaksian bahwa Islam adalah agama kebenaran. Diantara pendapat itu adalah tentang mukjizat Quran. Al-qur’an yang telah turun 1400 tahun yang lalu merupakan salah satu kitab yang menurut beliau adalah kitab yang sangat luar biasa, karena didalamnya terdapat fenomena yang tak sedikit fenomena itu di ketemukan pada akhir-akhir ini. Dr. Zakir Naik dengan kemampuan yang dimilikinya berupa hafalan yang teramat kuat tidak hanya mampu menghafalkan Al-Qur’an dan Shahih Bukhari Muslim, akan tetapi beliau juga telah menguasai kitab Weda, Tripitaka, Bhagavad gita, bahkan telah menggerakkan hati ribuan penganut Hindu di India dan menjadi mu’allaf. Beliau tanpa ragu-ragu juga mengoreksi pastur dan pendeta jika mereka salah dalam mengutip ayat-ayat dalam bible atau injil. Namun, tidak seperti gurunya, yaitu Syekh Ahmed Deedat, Dr. Zakir Naik tidak memiliki banyak agenda Debat Terbuka layaknya Ahmed Deedat karena hampir semua tantangan debat yang dilayangkan oleh Dr. Zakir Naik banyak yang tidak mendapat respon dari gereja, bahkan sampai sekarang belum ada berita apakah ada Pendeta yang berani berhadapan langsung dengan beliau. Oleh karena itu, Dr. Zakir Naik dijuluki “Ahmed Deedat Plus” yang telah membuat pastur dan pendeta merasa ngeri berhadapan dengan beliau yang argumentasinya belum pernah terpatahkan. Naik pernah mengajak debat terbuka kepada Paus Benediktus dimana tantangan debat tersebut tidak direspon. Debatnya pada tahun 2006 dengan Sri Sri Ravi Shankar dengan topik "Konsep Ketuhanan dalam Hinduisme dan Islam" yang diadakan di kota Bangalore, India, mengalami sukses besar. Beliau berhasil membuktikan bahwa Islam adalah agama kebenaran yang diwahyukan Allah kepada nabi penutup dan terakhir, Nabi Muhammad s.a.w.
