NRL Live 2017: Melbourne Storm v South Sydney Rabbitohs

Join Steve Mascord as Souths try to salvage something in a lost season.

Pleasant surprise: Angus Crichton has been a rare bright spot for Souths this year.

Fulltime at AAMI Park: MELBOURNE 64 SOUTH SYDNEY 6

MELBOURNE have humiliated South Sydney at AAMI Park, wingers Suliasi Vunivalu and Josh Addo-Carr each posting hat-tricks.

The Storm's premiership candidacy hasn't been more deeply underscored all year, with 11 blazing tries scored against a Rabbitohs' outfit with no answers.

Vunivalu even posted a second penalty try for the year.

COMMENT: A dark day for a comprehensively outplayed Rabbitohs

77 min: Addo-Carr try, Munster goal

How about this? Suiliasi Vunivalu roars into the clear - as he is wont to do - and is run down by Angus Crichton. As he is tackled, Vunivalu kicks ahead and who is there to collect it? The other winger, Josh Addo-Carr they both have a hat-trick now. Melbourne 64-6.

70 min: Harris try

And a few seconds after the penalty against Burgess, Tohu Harris runs a handy line and reaches the line with easy. Spectacular hair, Tohu has now. The goal misses. Melbourne 58-6.

68 min: S Burgess ON REPORT

Sam Burgess is on report for a head-slam and a facial. Players rushed in, no punches thrown. Melbourne 54-6.

62 min: Fuimaono try, Goodwin goal

Souths finally cross the line. Tyrell Fuimaono fields a little cross-field kick and despite there being plenty of Stormers on the scene, he gets the ball down. Bryson Goodwin with the goal. South Sydney 54-6.

56 min; Glasby try, Smith goal

Cooper Cronk shovels a short pass onto forward Tom Glasby who crashes over from close range. Cameron Smith now - and it's there. Cameron Smith gets a rest. Melbourne 54-0.

50 min: Addo-Carr try, Smith goal

Josh Addo Carr scores a magnificent individual try, fielding a kick 15 metres from his own line and breaking the defence on his left before straightening up and heading to the goalposts. An exhilarating sight. Smith with the conversion. Melbourne 48-0.

44 min: Slater try, Smith goal

Slater-Munster-Slater. The Melbourne fullback darts over on the left and it was a great pass from Munster back into the inside. Smith converts, as expected. Melbourne 42-0.

Halftime at AAMI Park: MELBOURNE 36 SOUTH SYDNEY 0

MELBOURNE have scored the most first-half points of any team this year, with a penalty try icing their near-perfect opening stanza against South Sydney.

When Robert Jennings grabbed the left arm of Vunivalu as he chased a kick in the final minute of play, refereen Henry Perenara ruled that he would have otherwise scored - and the Bunker agreed. Earlier, Vunivalu opened the scoring after only two minutes.

COMMENT: Perhaps the most compelling evidence yet for Melbourne being runaway premiership favourites.

39 min: Vunivalu penalty try

Robert Jennings is ruled to have grabbed Suiliasi Vunivalu's arm as he chased a kick and we have a penalty try! It's Vunivalu's second for the year. He couldn't get a good hand on the football. Upheld by the Bunker. Smith goal. Melbourne 36-0.

37 min: Smith try, goal

Melbourne captain Cameron Smith chases a kick, regathers and flops over the line for another Melbourne try. This is a toweling. Melbourne 30-0.

32 min: Addo-Carr try, Smith goal

Nice crisp pass from Cameron Munster to an unmarked Josh Addo Carr and the winger scamper over. Smith converts. Masterful attack from the Storm, very controlled. Melbourne 24-0.

27 min: Vunivalu try, Smith goal

And after a period of resolute defence from South Sydney, Melbourne's Suiliasi Vunivalu burrows over from dummy half. There was a fantastic attacking raid a few minutes earlier in which Cameron Munster had his pants pulled half down (That's not what was fantastic about it). Cameron Smith converts. Melbourne 18-0.

14 min: Cook NO TRY

South Sydney hooker Damien Cook launches himself at the line and the on-field decision from Henry Perenara is 'try' but replays show an amazing effort from Billy Slater to hold him up. No try. Amazing defence on the next set as well. Melbourne 12-0.

Like Moses Mbye earlier, Adam Reynolds won't be back tonight due to concussion. Melbourne 12-0.

4 min: Munster try, Smith goal

A bizarre try, that one. Cody Walker can't get to a kick at the back and Melbourne's Cameron Munster at first fails to dive on it. The ball is then - get this - kicked into Munster's face and he gets to it the second time. Try despite the on-field opinion. Cameron Smith converts from in front. Melbourne 12-0.

2 min: Vunivalu try, Smith goal

And another quick-fire try! Billy Slater involved in the lead-up and Suiliasi Vunivalu is there to take the pass to score yet another try. Cameron Smith now with the conversion attempt and he lands it from the sideline. Melbourne 6 South Sydney 0.

OK people, sorry we had some technical difficulties with the first blog so some of the things you're used to like weather and teams have been curtailed this time around but let's have another go, shall we?
