Woman attacked by crocodile in far north Queensland

A woman has filmed the moment she was attacked by a crocodile in far north Queensland.

The video was posted to social media on Monday and showed a crocodile, estimated to be up to 2.5 metres in length, lunging at a woman named Leah as she walked along a body of water at Cape Tribulation.

A photo was posted with the video by her friend Ally Bullifent, showing bite marks from a small croc on her upper thigh.

The 24-year-old was treated at Mossman Hospital on Monday night for “injuries consistent with a small crocodile”, a Queensland Health spokeswoman said.

The young woman was released from hospital later that night.

On Tuesday, the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection confirmed wildlife officers would assess the area and potentially target the estuarine crocodile for removal under the state government’s crocodile management plan.

“Wildlife officers are reminding people to always be 'crocwise',” a spokesperson said.

“EHP reminds residents and visitors to north Queensland that no waterway in croc country can ever be considered to be free of crocodiles.”

The video has been shared more than 1700 times on Facebook.
