'The unkindest cut of all!' Star Trek: Discovery's Jason Isaacs jokingly asks for Captain Kirk's forgiveness after William Shatner BLOCKS him on Twitter

Jason Isaacs is continuing the tradition of boldly going where no man has gone before in the new Star Trek: Discovery TV series.

But that doesn't mean William Shatner, who played Captain James T.  Kirk in the original Star Trek from 1966 to 1969, has to like it.

The actor, 85, has blocked Jason, aka Captain Gabriel Lorca, 54, on Twitter.

The British star shared his disappointment with his 168,000 followers on the social media site in a semi-joking tweet suggesting he may have offended the veteran star.

'I've been blocked by @WilliamShatner. The unkindest cut of all,' he announced on Sunday.

'In what way have I broken the prime directive Captain? Was it the end of sentence minor-key uptick? The quizzical eyebrow (and blue eyeliner)? The just too-tight uniform?

'Forgive me my sins - it's an homage, I swear.'

Shatner, who regularly appears at Star Trek fan conventions, has yet to reply to Jason's tweet.

The original Star Trek ran on NBC but was pulled after the third season amid falling ratings.

However, it continued in reruns, quickly achieving cult status in the US and around the world.

That persuaded Paramount to bring Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise to the big screen in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture, kicking off the long-running franchise.

CBS rebooted the show for TV.  Set roughly 10 years before the events of the first Star Trek series, it sees the Klingons in a war with the United Federation Of Planets that involves the crew of the USS Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery will return on CBS in the US and Netflix in the UK in January.
