Prince Harry said today he is 'thrilled' to be marrying Suits star Meghan Markle, who showed the world her engagement ring designed by the royal himself containing two diamonds from Princess Diana's own personal collection set in a gold band. Poignantly the royal chose their first photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in London, much loved by his late mother Diana. Harry and his brother William had white roses planted there in her memory when the 20th anniversary of her death fell in August.

 Oh thank the Lord! Prince Harry, long time enfant terrible of the Royal Family, has finally made a sensible decision when it comes to his personal life. Yes, His Royal 'Naked Billiards' Highness is at last settling down and getting married. I was delighted when I heard the big news today, not least because his bride-to-be Meghan Markle is a friend of mine. Or rather, she was until she met him.

Rachel Meghan Markle was born in Los Angeles on August 4 1981, to clinical therapist mother Doria who she describes as 'free spirited' and TV lighting director Thomas - who she calls 'the most hardworking father you can imagine'. Each day after school, she used to visit the set of the TV show Married...with Children where her father worked. In two photos from her yearbooks (including this one, top centre), Miss Markle is listed as Rachel Markle, as the actress was still using her first name at the time (Meghan is her middle name). Miss Markle was also once a 'briefcase girl' - one of the models who hold the suitcases full of cash - on the US version of Deal or No Deal (right). Davina McCall was spotted house-hunting in East Sussex on Monday, just two days after announcing that that her 17-year marriage to Matthew Roberston is over.  In photographs obtained by MailOnline, the 50-year-old TV personality can be seen wearing her gold wedding band as she steps out to view properties. However, while the sombre star has shown that she's not yet ready to let go of the symbol of the former couple's commitment, her estranged spouse was spotted just hours earlier without his wedding band as he boarded a train in East Sussex.

Police have confirmed five people who died in the Leeds horror crash were inside the stolen Renault Clio that hit a tree. Brothers Ellis and Elliott Thornton, aged 12 and 14, (top picture, right) died along with 15-year-old Darnell Harte (bottom left) and 24-year-old Robbie Meerun (centre). Father-of-two Anthoney Armour, 28, (bottom right) also died. They were killed when a Renault Clio hit a tree in the Meanwood area of Leeds on Saturday night in scenes described by police as 'complete carnage'. On Monday morning, the mother of one of the victims arrived at the scene and spent some time just standing next to the tree, looking at the scene (main picture). Police previously mistakenly said all seven people were in the vehicle.

Meghan Markle is set to leave her native Toronto and move into a cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace (inset) with her husband-to-be, Prince Harry. The newly-engaged couple will live together in the modest royal residence Nottingham Cottage (pictured), in the grounds of Kensington Palace. Dubbed 'Nott Cott' by palace insiders, the pair will enjoy their engagement in the pied-a-terre Harry made his bachelor pad some four years ago - before which it was Prince William and Kate's first marital home. Nottingham Cottage is something of a starter home ideal for the newlywed couple - a two-bedroom property boasting rooms designed by Sir Christopher Wren, a couple of snug reception rooms and small yard. Prince William reportedly had to stoop to avoid hitting his head on the low ceilings of the historic property. But when Harry made it his bachelor pad in 2013, the first thing he reportedly did was install a hammock in the yard.

The procession was led by a police motorcyclist and followed by Mrs May's silver Jaguar XJ and three official vehicles. Dramatic footage shows the Luftwaffe-marked Airbus A310 being battered by howling gales as it came in to land at Cologne airport in Germany. As one set of wheels touches the runway, the plane's wings tilt to the side (main) with its left engine nearly coming into contact with the tarmac. Mount Agung (main) in Bali has been hurling clouds of white and dark grey ash nearly 10,000ft into the atmosphere since the weekend and lava is welling up in the crater. Its explosions can be heard about 7.5 miles away while the National Disaster Mitigation Agency raised the volcano's alert to the highest level early today warning a larger eruption is possible. Bali's airport was closed early today after ash, which can pose a deadly threat to aircraft, reached its airspace. Some 445 flights were cancelled, stranding about 59,000 travellers (top right).

The disturbing propaganda poster shows Santa Claus standing on a low roof next to a box of dynamite looking out over a crowd of shoppers in the U.S. city. A nine-year-old Australian boy may be growing the country's longest and most inspirational mullet. Baird Garrett, from the coastal town of Onslow, in Western Australia, has become something of a local celebrity with his incredibly long locks, which he is growing for charity. The youngster has been growing his mullet for the last two years, with plans to cut it all off in September 2018 to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illnesses such as cancer. After being stopped for a selfie with his impressive mullet, Baird decided to begin charging for a photo. At $5 a selfie, the young entrepreneur has plans to raise $24,000 for children's charity Variety.

Police have today released what is believed to be the first footage in the UK of a high-tech 'relay' car theft where a gang stole an expensive new car in a minute without needing its keys. The two hooded criminals were able to override the Mercedes' security system in the Elmdon area of Solihull, Birmingham at 9pm on September 25 and the luxury vehicle has never been recovered. The footage shows two men pull up outside the victim's house. One can be seen waving a relay box in front of property, which searches for a signal from the key inside the house and transmits it to the second box next to the car. CCTV footage shows the men waiting briefly for the relay boxes to connect before the Mercedes' lights flash and the doors are opened. The thieves then drive off with the whole crime only taking one minute to complete. The thefts are becoming so widespread that drivers have been advised to take precautions such as storing keys in a safe because metal repels relay signals and also consider using a traditional steering wheel lock.

The footage shows a handful of workers in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk trying their best to mow verges of grass next to a road using strimmers. However the local authority in the town has defended their worker's action, claiming that local residents had asked them to mow the grass. A spokesman for the Mayor, Alyona Buynova, said: 'There were a number of requests from the residents, we had to act on those. What norms are we violating? We simply cut the grass.'

Louise Arner Boyd, born in 1887, inherited her parents' huge fortune in 1920 and spent it on several death-defying explorations of some of the most remote parts of the world, challenging the view of what was required of a young high society debutante. Miss Boyd, from San Rafael, California, (pictured right in 1925 being presented to to King George V and Queen Mary at Buckingham Palace, and left just months later shooting polar bears in the Arctic) fell in love with the Polar Ice Pack in 1924 and dedicated the rest of her life to the Arctic. In 1955 she became the first woman to fly across the North Pole.

A Chinese woman got her leg completely stuck in a drain cover after taking a wrong step while playing with her phone. The woman, reportedly to be 20 years old, fell into a gap between two metal bars and got her thigh trapped in Chinese city last Friday. Two passersby managed to free her after borrowing tools from nearby shops.

As tourist Matthew Poole filmed the patient predator stalking its next meal on the Sand River bank at Beyond Kirkmans Kamp in South Africa, his shot was invaded by two lovers. While the focused leopard tries to focus on November 3, the tortoise couple begrudgingly force her to move forward as they got intimate. Clearly not perturbed by their big cat neighbour, the randy reptiles carry on until the leopard finally runs off and they are left to carry on their lovemaking. Matthew, from Limpopo, South Africa, said: 'I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Luke Jackson (left) is currently staying at his brother Tom's house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and got up for a cigarette in the early hours of November 13 when he could not sleep. The 36-year-old claims he could hear 'footsteps' downstairs and turned on the light of his phone's camera to see what appeared. But the self-employed landscaper was left stunned after taking a picture and discovering the ghostly figure of an 'old woman' wearing a purple cardigan stood at the bottom of the stairs (right).

This is the shocking moment when a lorry crashed into a walkway over a busy dual carriage way, bringing the whole bridge down over the road. Video footage of the dramatic accident shows the vehicle colliding with the footbridge and the structure crashing down around traffic and pedestrians. Miraculously, no one was hurt during the accident which took place last week  on 23rd November in Guayaquil, a port city in Ecuador.

At just two-years-old, heart-breaker Mica Klaase, from Vancouver, Canada, was filmed by dumping her friend 'Marshie' over the phone after he took another girl out for a McDonald's meal. Her mother said: 'We have been taking videos of Mica since she was born and she loves it. Every morning she gets up and asks us to make videos. She is a real actress and is really funny.'

Furhat is the creation of Samer Al Moubayed, who founded Furhat Robotics in 2014 with colleagues from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The robots are named after the headgear worn by an early version (top right). Computer animations create an expression for the robot's face, which is then projected onto a mannequin's head (bottom right). The approach has already garnered interest from some big name companies, including Disney, who are using one of the robots to tell interactive stories to children (left).

The hi-power water cannon was being used in an attempt to disperse the group of activists in Jerusalem, who were protesting army conscription in their country. As police sent a powerful torrent of water flying the protesters' way, the woman began crossing the street, only to be struck with water from the riot-control cannon. The barrage sends her flying several feet and she is left in a pool of water as the protesters continue their demonstration. At least 35 ultra-orthodox demonstrators were arrested during the protests.
