The Dominican Republic (i/dəˌmɪnᵻkən rᵻˈpʌblɪk/; Spanish: República Dominicana [reˈpuβlika ðominiˈkana]) is a country on the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. The western three-eighths of the island is occupied by the nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that are shared by two countries. Both by area and population the Dominican Republic is the second-largest Caribbean nation (after Cuba), with 48,445 square kilometres (18,705 sq mi) and nearly 10 million people, one million of whom live in the capital city Santo Domingo.
The Dominican Republic’s economy is set to expand by around six percent this year as construction and tourism continue to bolster one of the fastest-growing countries in the region. Luis Espinola, Executive Vice-President of International Business and Private Banking from Banco Popular Dominicano, brings us his forecast. The Dominican Republic's banking sector is among the strongest in the Latin American region, and it's helping local SMEs thrive, with the DR seeing huge inflows from tourism, exports, and foreign investments. Dominican Republic Economy 2016 News | Business union congratulate Danilo Medina victory 2016
In the past 10 years the Dominican Republic has experienced great economic growth and I wanted to shine a light on how that has affected it's culture, society, and citizens.
Many foreigners have attempted to design the perfect Caribbean lifestyle, yet many failed as they either arrived with a lack of money or an established income, couldn't find work, or they set up the wrong kind of business (or they didn't run it correctly). So in this video, Mr.T focuses on the smartest solutions for these typical challenges. He also interviews existing expats who either have jobs or run a business in the North Coast market place (Sosua - Cabarete) of Dominican Republic, to gain their valuable knowledge about the pros and cons of working and starting a businesses there, and the local economy. This video also includes a list of needed Dom Rep businesses. Enjoy! Music credits go to YouTube Audio Library and various artists that make their tracks available - many thanks! ...
Efforts to diversify the economy, openness to foreign investors and a sustained rule of law are behind the Dominican Republic's fast growth. The Banker talks to a group of leading businessmen in Santo Domingo, the country's capital.
Fox 5 and Fox News Latino explore the stories of Hispanics in America. In this inaugural edition of Our American Dream, we report on Dominican-American business owners. Washington Heights: 181st Street and Broadway is the heart of Dominican business in New York City. And it's not just in Washington Heights. The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in New York City has nearly doubled since the late 1990s. More than 140,000 -- or about 1 in 7 businesses in the Big Apple -- are now owned by Latinos. It is a national phenomenon. More than 3 million Latino-owned businesses exist in America today. That is up more than 40 percent since 2007. The fact is Hispanics are starting businesses at three times the national rate, fueling the economy, empowering Hispanic families, and all while changing Ma...

We are in the town of Las Terrenas located in the Samaná province of the Dominican Republic. This is a walking tour of the town which starts on the Las Terranas main road and also includes a walk on the beach road. We where there in December and this is actually New Year (31/12). The video follows our walk up the main road where we try to give the viewer an idea of the atmosphere of this rather small Caribbean island fishing town. The main road offers tourists a limited number of shops, restaurants and excursion sale agents. On the beach road there are a few more restaurants and bars and also a very "limited" local shopping center. As tourists who enjoy visiting local towns in the destinations we visit we where rather disappointed with the Town of Las Terranas. Our opinion (just our opinio...

Kingston, January 25, 2017: Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Planning Dr. Peter Phillips is proposing that Caribbean governments and private sector extend economic cooperation beyond the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in order to bring about greater economic growth and lasting social progress for the people of the region. “We need to actively integrate the Dominican Republic, Haiti to a greater degree, and selectively those other Latin American countries bordering on the Caribbean. This will encourage diversification of the productive base of our own economies and encourage foreign direct and other investment flows,” Dr. Phillips told local business leaders and global analysts attending the 12th Regional Investments and Capital Markets Conference hosted by the Jamaica Stock Exchange. ...

Despite the economic growth, inequalities in the Dominican Republic are reduced at a very slow pace and health and education indicators are still below the regional averages.
My name is Stephen Taylor and I am a Juinor Economics and Marketing Dual Major at UNH. I chose to go to the Dominican Republic to explore a new culture and gain insight into the business practices in a country other than the US. Here is a brief overview of the things I saw and the ways this trip has affected my life.
China is waging an aggressive campaign of seduction in the Caribbean, wooing countries away from relationships with rival Taiwan, opening markets for its expanding economy, promising to send tourists, and shipping police to Haiti in the first communist deployment in the Western Hemisphere. And the United States, China's Cold War enemy, is benignly watching the Asian economic superpower move into its backyard. For decades China and Taiwan used dollar diplomacy to win over small Caribbean nations where small projects building roads, bridges, wells and fisheries go a long way. But Beijing's growing economic clout is tipping the scales in the region. Caribbean trade with China increased 42 percent from 2003, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported. The United States has applauded China's econ...

The history of the Dominican Republic is the result of an unlikely mixture of influences; nowhere else will you find a blending of European, African, and native Taíno Indian cultures. These distinct cultures still drive the social identity of the people today. Every aspect of their food, music, art, sports and religion provides a unique insight into the development of their country. In a single day you can experience both ancient and modern cultures from around the globe. Nowhere is this more evident than in their food. As a former Spanish Colony, many of its dishes carry a familiar Latin American feel. Lots of rice, beans, meat and seafood can be found in their cuisine. However, strong influences from its heritage give the meals a unique twist. Traditional Taíno dishes are still made feat...

Thousands of Dominican Haitians have been waiting — some for days — to enter the Ministry of the Interior to complete a "regularization" process in order to avoid deportation. A 2013 ruling by the Dominican Republic's top court rendered hundreds of thousands of people in the country effectively stateless by revoking their citizenship. After an outcry from the international community, the Dominican government passed a law allowing residents a pathway to naturalization. Wednesday, June 17 was the deadline for those registering for naturalization at government bureaus around the country, the busiest of which was in the capital, Santo Domingo. VICE News was at the Ministry of the Interior in the capital on the day leading up to the deadline, where thousands of Dominican Haitians were wait...
News Report - The corpse of a Haitian man was found hanging from a tree in a public park in the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city Wednesday morning, according the newspaper Listín Diario. Local police said the killing in Santiago appeared to have occurred during a robbery. But human rights groups and other observers pointed out that the crime comes amid a furious debate over immigration from neighboring Haiti and a decade-long series of legal measures that have stripped birthright citizenship from thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent. The victim, identified by the newspaper only by his nickname Tulile, worked shining shoes in Ercilia Pepín Park, where his body was found, according to Listín Diario. His hands and feet were bound, according to Dominican daily Diario Libre. A spo...

Latin American culture is the formal or informal expression of the people of Latin America, and includes both high culture (literature, high art) and popular culture (music, folk art and dance) as well as religion and other customary practices. Latin America also has many races. Definitions of Latin America vary. From a cultural perspective,* Latin America generally includes those parts of the Americas where Spanish, French or Portuguese prevail: Mexico, most of Central America, and South America. There is also an important Latin American cultural presence in the United States (e.g. California and the Southwest, and cities such as New York city and Miami). Over the last few decades, the Dominican Republic has changed the face of American baseball by churning out talented players whose humble beginnings have helped cultivate a unique passion for the game. That passion is often due to dire circumstances that drive all focus to the diamond instead of the classroom. The result is thousands of young Dominican men sacrificing their education and formative years for a 2% chance of making it to the big leagues. We sent Jaimie Sanchez to Boca Chica, a small, rural town that is home to the MLB's training camps to visit Junior Noboa. Junior is the head of Latin American Affairs for the Arizona Diamondbacks and has helped develop a digital education program for their young players. We also see Boca Chica through the eyes of two players who were forced ...

The people of Dominican Republic are in awe of the wonders that God Almighty is doing right now. God Almighty is using Prophet T.B Joshua as a channel of healing where there is sickness and a channel of restoration where there is hopelessness. The United States has always had a close relationship with the Dominican Republic. During the 19th century, it treated the Caribbean island as "subsidiary" and never hesitated to invade the sovereign nation if its political situation didn't suit their needs. Meanwhile, it provided ample backing to any Dominican regime that was willing to push the US' agenda, even if this meant supporting the cruelest dictator in the history of Latin America. In this revealing and analytic program, we will visit the Dominican Republic's Free Trade Zones, where sweatshop workers will tell us about the slave-like working conditions they had to endure while manufacturing garments for US brands and, many times, even working for US clothes manufacturing companies based at the zone. Besides the Free Trade Zones, ...
Prophet T.B. Joshua is now on the Crusade stage in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for Day 1 of the historic crusade in the Caribbean nation! Stay tuned! Prophet T.B. Joshua is now preaching a Divinely-inspired message titled, "Seek First The Kingdom". Having began his message with “Everything big starts little. We wish to recognise our leaders from Dominican Republic. Thank you. And other nations, including our Christian leaders, religious leaders, our political leaders and all other professionals present. Thank you for coming,“ Prophet TB Joshua gave the encouraging words (from Romans 5:2 – End) that we are here at the Crusade as the Lord instructed and that he asks God to cause us to be spiritually and mentally alert during this spiritual gathering, in Jesus Christ name.
