The United Nations Celebrates “International Day of Peace” with Torch of Love and Peace

Under the patronage of H.E. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, the Minister of Labour and Social Development, an event was held celebrating the International Day of Peace at the United Nations building in Hoora. A joint-event by UNDP and the charity Torch of Love and Peace, the event focused on the contributions of the Kingdom of Bahrain towards the consolidation of peace around the world and the role of youth in conflict reduction and peace. In attendance were H.E. Mr. Khalid Ishaq, Undersecretary of Human Development, H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Dr. Adel Abdellatif, Chief of the Regional Programme Division at the UNDP Regional Bureau of Arab States in New York via Skype, Torch of Love and Peace board members including Dr. Hala Jamal and various youth NGOs.

United Nations Holds Session On “Sustainable Development Goals And Their Targets” For Al Noor Charity Welfare

The United Nations in Bahrain held a session on “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their Targets” for Al Noor Charity Welfare Association at the UN House in Hoora yesterday. The session is part of a wider reaching strategy to work with non-governmental and charitable organizations towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Labor and Social Development HE Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, the United Nations in Bahrain and the Baha'i Social Society organized an evening on the occasion of the International Day of Peace aimed at spreading and consolidating the concept of peace, coexistence and human values ​​in support of unity and brotherhood on Monday, 18 September 2017, at the UN House in Hoora.

Bahrain participates in Social Good Summit through UNDP and Social Media Club collaboration

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Social Media Club (SMC) celebrated the Social Good Summit in New York by holding an event at the UN House in Hoora on September 17, 2017. The event engaged 270 users online, who posted 2500 times and reached 1.1 million users with 8.7 million impressions. In attendance were H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, and Mr. Ali Sabkar, Co-Chair of Social Media Cub. This year’s Social Good Summit theme is “Future in Focus” which discusses the intersection of technology and new media that has redefined our understanding of human progress. UNDP partnered with the Social Media Club to host the event under the title “The Role of Social Media in Passing Knowledge”. Social media, youth and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were central themes of the session, which ran in parallel with this year’s Social Good Summit held in New York, and participants were able to view the opening session via livestream.

Derasat and UNDP Hold Joint Workshop On Bahrain’s Growth Options, For The Next Human Development Report

The Bahrain Centre for Strategic and International and Energy Studies (Derasat) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held a joint workshop on “Options for Bahrain’s Future Sustainable Economic Growth” at Derasat’s headquarters in Awali. The workshop is one of many activities planned to support the development of the next Bahrain Human Development Report (BHDR), to be published next year. The workshop was attended by H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, and Dr. Balázs Horváth, Director of the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre for Global Development, via Skype. Also in attendance were representatives of the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister (OFDPM).

UNDP and BIPA sign project document

A joint project between the Bahrain Institute of Public Administration (BIPA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was signed Monday morning to institutionalize the Middle East and North Africa Research Network (MENAPAR). The project aims at uncovering the best ways to institutionalize the network, which the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by BIPA, in collaboration with UNDP and several other partners, worked on establishing the network and operating it from the Kingdom of Bahrain.

First-ever joint program in Bahrain signed between two UN agencies to review Bahrain Housing Policy

The United Nations Development Programme, UN-HABITAT and the Ministry of Housing signed a project document on Tuesday to revise Bahrain’s housing policy to develop an effective, efficient and sustainable housing and land sector in line with new economic realities. The agreement, “Bahrain Housing Policy Revision”, is the first of its kind in Bahrain between two UN agencies and works effectively towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Bassim bin Yacoub Al Hamer, Minister of Housing, H.E. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, and H.E. Dr. Tarek ElSheikh, Regional Representative for Gulf States, UN-HABITAT in the presence of in the presence of top officials from both parties and invited guests. The project document, which implies new roles for the public sector, the private sector and civil society to move towards an enabling efficient housing system, is in line with Bahrain’s Government Action Plan (2015-2018).

UNDP supports 9th International Youth Conference: "Give Back"

Under the patronage of His Highness Sh. Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, the Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the 9th International Conference under the title "Give Back" and focusing on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and supported by UNDP Bahrain.

UNDP Human Development Report 2016 launched in Bahrain

On April 3rd, 2017 the United Nations Development Programme in Bahrain, under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Sh. Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted the launch of the Global Human Development Report 2016: Human Development for Everyone. First in its kind for Bahrain, the event, which took place in the UN House building located in Hoora, gathered several participants, including government authorities, ambassadors, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and representatives of the media.
