South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is the southernmost sovereign state in Africa. It is bounded on the south by 2,798 kilometers of coastline of southern Africa stretching along the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans, on the north by the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and on the east by Mozambique and Swaziland, and surrounding the kingdom of Lesotho. South Africa is the 25th-largest country in the world by land area, and with close to 53 million people, is the world's 24th-most populous nation. It is the southernmost country on the mainland of the Old World or the Eastern Hemisphere.
South Africa is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic makeup is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 11 official languages, which is among the highest number of any country in the world. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans developed from Dutch and serves as the first language of most white and coloured South Africans; English reflects the legacy of British colonialism, and is commonly used in public and commercial life, though it is fourth-ranked as a spoken first language.
Johannesburg (/dʒoʊˈhænᵻsbɜːrɡ/; Afrikaans: [joˈɦɐnəsbœrχ]; also known as Jozi, Jo'burg, eGoli, and Joeys, and abbreviated as JHB) is the largest city in South Africa. It is the provincial capital of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. The city is one of the 50 largest urban agglomerations in the world, and is also the world's largest city not situated on a river, lake, or coastline. The city was named and established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. The city is commonly interpreted as the modern day El Dorado due to the extremely large gold deposit found along the Witwatersrand The name is attributed to one or all of three men involved in the establishment of the city. In ten years, the population was 100,000 inhabitants. While Johannesburg is not one of South Africa's three capital cities, it is the seat of the Constitutional Court, which has the final word on interpretation of South Africa's constitution as well as with issues in connection with constitutional matters. The city is the source of a large-scale gold and diamond trade, due to its location on the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills.
Michael Tellinger is a South African author, songwriter and politician.
Tellinger released his first SA record in 1981, HAZEL, nominated for the SARIE award in that year as best male vocalist. Later in 1981 Tellinger played the part of Joseph in the opening of the State Theatre in Pretoria. Michael Tellinger and Russell Stirling combined to become a successful rock duo during the early 80's before splitting up in 1985.
In 2005 he published the book Slave Species of God based on the writings of Zecharia Sitchin, which propounded an ancient astronaut theory of human origins. Recently he has evangelised for a money-less society.
Tellinger published his first book, Slave Species of God, in 2005. The work is the result of a 25-year study of the writings of Zecharia Sitchin, who claims to have translated ancient Sumerian clay tablets and theorized about the early creation of man by the Anunnaki.
Adam's Calendar, published in 2008, discusses a stone circle rediscovered by co-author Johan Heine in 2003, which they claim date to 75,000 years ago.
The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited is one of South Africa's largest financial services groups. It operates in 32 countries around the world, including 20 in Africa.
The bank now known as Standard Bank was formed in 1962 as a South African subsidiary of the British overseas bank Standard Bank, under the name The Standard Bank of South Africa.
The bank's origins can be traced to 1862, when a group of businessmen led by John Paterson formed a bank in London, initially under the name Standard Bank of British South Africa. The bank started operations in 1863 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and soon after opening it merged with several other banks including the Commercial Bank of Port Elizabeth, the Colesberg Bank, the British Kaffrarian Bank and the Fauresmith Bank.
It was prominent in financing and development of the diamond fields of Kimberley in 1867. The word "British" was dropped from the title in 1883. When gold was discovered on the Witwatersrand, the bank expanded northwards and on 11 October 1886 the bank started doing business in a tent at Ferreira's Camp (later to be called Johannesburg), thus becoming the first bank to open a branch on the Witwatersrand gold fields. On 1 November 1901 a second branch was opened in Eloff Street of Johannesburg.
South is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. It is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. South is the polar opposite of north and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word south comes from Old English sūþ, from earlier Proto-Germanic *sunþaz ("south"), possibly related to the same Proto-Indo-European root that the word sun derived from.
By convention, the bottom side of a map is south, although reversed maps exist that defy this convention. To go south using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 180°. Alternatively, in the Northern Hemisphere outside the tropics, the Sun will be roughly in the south at midday.
True south is the direction towards the southern end of the axis about which the earth rotates, called the South Pole. The South Pole is located in Antarctica. Magnetic south is the direction towards the south magnetic pole, some distance away from the south geographic pole.
Roald Amundsen, from Norway, was the first to reach the South Pole, on 14 December 1911, after Ernest Shackleton from the UK was forced to turn back some distance short.

Michael Tellinger faced Standard Bank in the Supreme Court of Johannesburg on the 13th Feb 2013. This was in response to Michael's Summons against the bank which includes 5 counts of fraud and more. The bank was represented by a gallery of 5 lawyers, the top litigating lawyer from Norton Rose, and one of the most senior advocates in South Africa -- Shem Symon. Standard Bank were trying their best to have the case thrown out based on a list of exceptions they drew to the Summons -- the exceptions were that the allegations were "vague and embarrassing". Because of the fact that Michael Tellinger represented himself as a "layperson" he was given lenience by the judge who refused the bank's request to have the matter thrown out -- but instead, gave Michael 30 days to submit a new Summons. Michael Tellinger defends himself in the Johannesburg Supreme Court against a bill of R280,000 ($28,000) for legal costs by Standard Bank - in which he defended himself against the foreclosure of his property. This case lasted for 3 years, starting in March 2011. His argument was that the bank had no right to begin action against him because they were no longer the owner of the original contract, having sold it to a third party through a process called securitisation. The original contract was never presented as evidence in court. This was simply ignored by the judge and a judgement was handed down in favour of the bank - the property was auctioned and legal costs of R280,000 were served on Michael Tellinger for legal fees of the bank. To date Michael has paid the bank with three separate p...

The Foreign exchange market is the biggest financial market in the world. At least four trillion dollars is traded on currency markets on a daily basis. Sandile Shezi has successfully learnt how to trade currencies and at just 23 he's become one of the youngest multi-millionaires in the country. Shezi now wants to empower other young South Africans to do the same. Sumitra Nydoo caught up with him.
