The Possession

The Possession is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Ole Bornedal and produced by Sam Raimi. It was released in the US on August 31, 2012, with the film premiering at the Film4 FrightFest.

The story is based on the allegedly haunted dybbuk box. Bornedal cited films like The Exorcist as an inspiration, praising their subtlety.

Plot

A newly separated couple Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) live in different homes. After Clyde picks up their two children, Emily "Em" (Natasha Calis) and Hannah (Madison Davenport), for the weekend, they stop at a yard sale where Em becomes intrigued by an old wooden box that has Hebrew letters engraved on it. Clyde buys the box for Em, and they later find that there seems no way to open it. That night, Em hears whispering coming from the box. She is able to open it, and finds a tooth, a dead moth, a wooden figurine, and a ring, which she begins to wear. Em becomes solitary, and her behavior becomes increasingly sinister; she stabs her father in the hand with a fork. The house becomes infested with moths.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (born April 22, 1966) is an American actor. He is best known for portraying Denny Duquette in the medical drama Grey's Anatomy for parts of three seasons (2006-2009), John Winchester on Supernatural, The Comedian in the 2009 superhero film Watchmen, and Ike Evans in Magic City. He is currently playing the role of Jason Crouse on the TV series The Good Wife. He will portray Negan in AMC's The Walking Dead.

Early life

Morgan was born in Seattle, Washington, the son of Sandy Thomas and Richard Dean Morgan. He attended Ben Franklin Elementary School, Rose Hill Junior High, and Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington. He was a basketball player in high school and college.

Career

Starting with the 1991 film Uncaged, Morgan has appeared in over 25 feature films. However, the bulk of his work has been in television. He was the star of the 1996–1997 television series The Burning Zone; his character, Dr. Edward Marcase, appeared in 10 out of 19 episodes that season. In 2005 and 2006, Morgan simultaneously appeared in three separate television series: on the CW series Supernatural as John Winchester, in a recurring role on ABC's Grey's Anatomy as heart transplant patient Denny Duquette, and as Judah Botwin in two episodes of the Showtime series Weeds. He has also guest-starred in a number of television series, including ER, JAG, Walker, Texas Ranger, Angel, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Sliders, The O.C., and Monk.

Jeff Dean (computer scientist)

Jeffrey Adgate "Jeff" Dean (born 1968) is an American computer scientist and software engineer. He is currently a Google Senior Fellow in the Systems and Infrastructure Group.

Personal life and education

Dean received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Washington, working with Craig Chambers on whole-program optimization techniques for object-oriented languages. He received a B.S., summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in Computer Science & Economics in 1990. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2009, which recognized his work on "the science and engineering of large-scale distributed computer systems."

Career in computer science

Prior to joining Google, he was at DEC/Compaq's Western Research Laboratory, where he worked on profiling tools, microprocessor architecture, and information retrieval.

Prior to graduate school, he worked at the World Health Organization's Global Programme on AIDS, developing software for statistical modeling and forecasting of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Dean Morgan

Dean Lance Morgan (born 3 October 1983) is a professional footballer who plays for Newport County. He has also played international football for Montserrat.

Club career

Morgan started his career with Colchester United, but left in September 2003, having his contract cancelled by mutual consent. He joined Reading in November 2003, before being released at the end of the 2004–05 season. He joined Luton Town in the summer of 2005. Morgan started well, scoring a late winner against Southampton on his first home appearance for the Hatters. This goal earned Morgan the club's Goal of the Season award. Despite this, Morgan proved an unpopular face at Kenilworth Road following rumors of an altercation with club captain Kevin Nicholls and displays of petulance on pitch leading some fans to feel his had a poor attitude.

Despite interest from other teams, Morgan signed a new deal at Luton on 16 February 2007, keeping him at Luton until the summer of 2009.

On 16 November 2007, Morgan signed on loan for Southend United until January 2008. He scored three goals for Southend, all of which came in the FA Cup in games against Oxford United (scoring once) and Dagenham & Redbridge (scoring twice). On 3 January 2008, Leeds United manager Dennis Wise confirmed that Morgan was one of his transfer targets in the transfer window, but Morgan remained at Luton as Leeds would not meet his wage demands, despite Luton being willing to release him on a free transfer. This was not the first time Wise had attempted to bring Morgan to Leeds, having also tried to sign him during the 2006–07 season. On 7 March 2008 Morgan signed for Crewe Alexandra on loan for the rest of the season, where he scored once against Gillingham.

Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Minturn Sedgwick (born August 19, 1965) is an American actress and producer. She is best known for her starring role as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on the TNT crime drama The Closer. Sedgwick's role in the series won her a Golden Globe Award in 2007 and an Emmy Award in 2010. The series ended on August 13, 2012, following the completion of its seventh season.

She has appeared in a number of films, including; Born on the Fourth of July, Phenomenon, and Secondhand Lions.

Early life

Sedgwick was born in New York City, the daughter of Patricia (née Rosenwald), a speech teacher and educational/family therapist, and Henry Dwight Sedgwick V, a venture capitalist. Her father was Episcopalian and of English heritage, and her mother was Jewish. On her father's side, she is a descendant of Judge Theodore Sedgwick, Endicott Peabody (the founder of the Groton School), William Ellery (a signer of the Declaration of Independence), John Lathrop (American minister) (1740–1816), of Boston, Massachusetts and is the great-granddaughter of Henry Dwight Sedgwick III, and thus the corresponding niece to his brother Ellery Sedgwick, owner/editor (1908-1938) of The Atlantic Monthly. Sedgwick is also a sister of actor Robert Sedgwick, half-sister of jazz guitarist Mike Stern, the first cousin once removed of actress Edie Sedgwick, and a niece of the writer John Sedgwick.
