Brandon Paak Anderson (born February 9, 1986), better known by his stage name Anderson Paak (usually styled as Anderson .Paak), is an American singer, rapper, and producer from Oxnard, California. Paak released his debut album, O.B.E. Vol.1 in 2012 under the name Breezy Lovejoy. He released Venice on October 28, 2014 as Anderson .Paak, which was followed by Malibu, on January 15, 2016.

Background

Paak was born into a Black and Korean family in Oxnard in 1986. He began producing music from his bedroom as a teenager. His first experiences performing were as a drummer at his family's church. In 2011, prior to being a successful working musician, Paak was working at a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara. He was let go without warning, becoming homeless together with his wife and infant son.

Career

In 2011, Paak had started earning acceptance in the Los Angeles music world, and had begun working on his debut album. Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra helped Paak recover financially from losing his job in Santa Barbara by employing him as an assistant, videographer, editor, writer, and producer. He completed O.B.E. Vol.1, and released the album in mid-2012. He became the drummer for American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart.

The Recording Academy, also known as The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), is a U.S. organization of musicians, producers, recording engineers and other recording professionals dedicated to improving the quality of life and cultural condition for music and its makers. The Recording Academy is headquartered in Santa Monica. Neil Portnow is the current president of The Academy.

The Recording Academy, which began in 1957, is known for its Grammy Awards. In 1997, the Recording Academy launched The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc., which produces the Latin GRAMMY Awards. Michael Greene was the founder and the first President of the Latin Grammys.

History

The origin of the Academy dates back to the beginning of the 1950s Hollywood Walk of Fame project. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce asked the help of major recording industry executives in compiling a list of people in the music business who should be honored by Walk of Fame stars. The music committee, made up of these executives, compiled a list, but as they worked, they realized there were many more talented industry people who would not qualify to be recognized with a Hollywood Boulevard bronze star. The founding committee members included Jesse Kaye, MGM Records; Lloyd Dunn and Richard Jones, Capitol Records; Sonny Burke and Milt Gabler, Decca Records; Dennis Farnon, RCA Records; and Axel Stordahl, Paul Weston, and Doris Day from Columbia Records. This was the start of the Academy and also of the GRAMMY Awards.

...The Dandy Warhols Come Down is the second studio album by American alternative rock band The Dandy Warhols. It was recorded in 1996 and released on 15 July 1997 by Capitol Records.

Recording and The Black Album

The band's first effort for Capitol Records was an album which was recorded before Come Down called The Black Album, which was rejected by Capitol for, according to frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, containing "no songs". It was later released as a double album in 2004 with Come On Feel the Dandy Warhols, an album composed of B-sides and previously unreleased material.

...The Dandy Warhols Come Down was recorded in 1996 at Sound Impressions, Stiles Recording, Falcon Studios, and Courtney Taylor-Taylor's apartment in Portland, Oregon.

Release

...The Dandy Warhols Come Down was released on 15 July 1997 by Capitol Records.

Three singles were released from the album: "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth", which helped to establish the band's popularity; "Every Day Should Be a Holiday", which reached No. 29 on the UK Singles Chart; and "Boys Better", which reached No. 36 on the same chart.
