The Community Group, also known as the Independent Community Group (ICG), and registered with the Electoral Commission as The Community (London Borough of Hounslow), is a small political party based in Isleworth in the London Borough of Hounslow.
The party was founded on 1 January 1994 as the Isleworth Community Group to build a "vibrant community" and to advocate public participation within the decision making processes. It is non-ideological, aiming to reflect local public opinion, and has criticised the "incestuous nature of establishment politics".
They got their first councillor after the 1998 local elections.
Following the 2006 local elections, the group had six councillors, representing Isleworth (Paul Fisher, Phil Andrews and Genevieve Hibbs) and Syon wards (Shirley Fisher, Caroline Andrews and Jon Hardy). They accepted an offer to form a coalition administration with the Conservative group of councillors. This lasted until the Community Group lost all their seats to the Labour Party in the 2010 local elections. The group is currently considering whether or not to field council candidates in the future.
A community is a social unit of any size that shares common values, or that is situated in a given geographical area (e.g. a village or town). It is a group of people who are connected by durable relations that extend beyond immediate genealogical ties, and who mutually define that relationship as important to their social identity and practice. Although communities are usually small, community may also refer to large groups, such as national communities, international communities, and virtual communities.
The word "community" is derived from the Old French comuneté which comes from the Latin communitas (from Latin communis, things held in common).
In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, and risks, may be shared in common, affecting the identity of the participants, and their degree of cohesiveness.
Community studies is an academic field drawing on both sociology and anthropology and the social research methods of ethnography and participant observation in the study of community. In academic settings around the world, community studies is variously a sub-discipline of anthropology or sociology, or an independent discipline. It is often interdisciplinary and geared toward practical applications rather than purely theoretical perspectives. Community studies is sometimes combined with other fields, i.e., "Urban and Community Studies," "Health and Community Studies," or "Family and Community studies."
Shaw TV is a locally based community channel service operated by cable TV company Shaw Communications, and is available to Shaw Cable subscribers in most major communities throughout western Canada.
Each station runs programming produced by staff and/or volunteers. Most stations broadcast a variety of programming, including news, live studio shows, city council meetings, sports and community bulletin board/televised advertisements.
Some programs are aired only locally, while others are aired throughout a province or region.
Shaw Direct airs many of the features and shows from "Shaw TV" on channel 299 (or channel 2 depending on the lineup). This channel is not branded as "Shaw TV" but as "Shaw Direct TV". It also airs selected other features relating to Shaw Direct programming such as a PPV (Pay-Per-View) movie preview show called "Movie Loft" and regional news for areas where a local station is not carried (notably CBC Newfoundland & Labrador). When features or inserts are shown from the various "Shaw TV" channels, the channel displays a DOG (Digital On-Screen Graphic) noting the area from which the insert came.

Nanaimo /nəˈnaɪmoʊ/ (Canada 2011 Census population 83,810) is a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is known as "The Harbour City." Previously known as the "Hub City" because of its original design where the streets radiated out from the shoreline like the spokes of a wagon wheel. It has also been known as the "Bathtub Racing Capital of the World" and is today fondly known as the "Hub, Tub and Pub City" because of its association with bathtub racing and the numerous "watering holes" in Old Nanaimo. Nanaimo is also the headquarters of the Regional District of Nanaimo.
The Native people of the area that is now known as Nanaimo are the Snuneymuxw.
The first Europeans to find Nanaimo Bay were those of the 1791 Spanish voyage of Juan Carrasco, under the command of Francisco de Eliza. They gave it the name Bocas de Winthuysen.
Nanaimo began as a trading post in the early 19th century. In 1849 the Snuneymuxw chief Ki-et-sa-kun ("Coal Tyee") informed the Hudson's Bay Company of coal in the area. Exploration proved there was plenty of it in the area and Nanaimo became chiefly known for the export of coal. In 1853 the company built a Nanaimo Bastion, which has been preserved and is a popular tourist destination in the downtown area.
