United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union, often shortened to Brexit (short for British exit) is a political aim of some political parties, advocacy groups, and individuals in the United Kingdom (UK) for the country to leave the European Union (EU). In 1975 a referendum was held on the country's membership of the European Economic Community (EEC), a precursor to the EU. The outcome of the vote was that the country continued to be a member of the EEC. More recently the European Union Referendum Act 2015 has been passed to allow for a referendum on the country's membership of the EU, with a vote due to be held before the end of 2017.
The United Kingdom joined the EEC, commonly referred to as the Common Market in the UK, on 1 January 1973. This was done under the Conservative government of Edward Heath. The opposition Labour Party, led by Harold Wilson, contested the October 1974 general election with a commitment to renegotiate Britain's terms of membership of the EEC and then hold a referendum on whether to remain in the EEC on the new terms.
BREXIT made Brussels realise the British public has never had a great consideration of the European Union, according to former British Commissioner Jonathan Faull. Mr Faull said the Brexit referendum unveiled the "full cocktail of issues" Great Britain has had with Brussels since its membership started in 1973. The former Eurocrat said: "I accept many of the issues which were discussed in the referendum campaign are shared, to varying degrees, with other member states of the European Union but I don’t think any other country had the full cocktail of issues. "I also don’t think any other country had the same starting point in the way it thinks about Europe as we do in this country." Before the Brexit vote, Mr Faull was charged with leading a task force focused on negotiating a new packa...

Opeens is Brexit helemaal toppie voor de werkgelegenheid van Groot-Britanië volgens Mark Rutte. Nigel Farage has once again taken it upon himself to deliver some good Brexit news which you are unlikely to hear from other media outlets. The outspoken politician is fed up with people talking down Britain’s chances outside the EU, so he now regularly offers up the under-reported positives. Nigel Farage in Brussels Nigel’s update comes with the guarantee that the phrase “despite Brexit” will not be mentioned. So, broadcasting from Brussels, the LBC presenter had a long list of business news to celebrate. From the FTSE 100 hitting record highs to the continuing growth in UK manufacturing, there was plenty for Brits to cheer about. And, after delivering his update, Nigel said: "There's plenty of good news out there, it isn't all misery, we're doing absolutely fine and if we sort Bre...

NIGEL Farage launched a scathing attack on Nick Clegg after the former Ukip leader said he was proved right over future EU plans to create a pan-European army with a new defence pact. At least 20 EU members are expected to sign a new military collaboration pact – known as the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) – as early as next week. In a 2014 debate on LBC, Mr Farage came head-to-head with the former deputy Prime Minister after he claimed the idea of a European army was "a dangerous fantasy." And today Mr Farage seized the opportunity to hit back at Mr Clegg. The staunch Brexiteer said: "Are you listening, Nick Clegg? The pact means a European army, navy, air force. They are already establishing their own command centre in Brussels. "They’ve got the fund, the structures set u...

Nigel Farage is worried Brexit will not be delivered under Theresa May, so one supporter of the Prime Minister called LBC to try and settle his nerves. The outspoken politician believes the PM will be out of a job by Christmas after a new poll showed public confidence in her ability to strike a deal had fallen. In June Mrs May had 44 per cent of the public's backing, that dropped to 34 per cent following the snap election and now it sits at just 26 per cent, according to the survey. And with her Cabinet in disarray, Nigel struggled to see her surviving in the role for much longer. But, his remarks prompted Ben to get in touch who told the LBC presenter: “Nigel, you’ve got to let it go. “This obsession with trying to take down Theresa May… give this woman a break, she’s handling a very...

Welcome to our second Brexit Reality debate - a deliberately one-sided debate about Brexit. If you voted Remain should you fight Brexit or accept it. Have the people spoken - or could they change their minds? Are you sick of the whole thing and want to get on with it - or are you terrified we are sleep walking over a cliff? Last week in Wakefield we brought together Brexiteers. Tonight in a city that voted strongly to remain we've got just Remainers - in the Georgian splendour of Bath's Assembly Rooms. And in many ways things are going their way. Four rounds of Brexit talks haven't made huge progress, the government admits it needs at least two more years of transition and is gripped by a leadership crisis after Theresa May's grim performance at the Conservative Party Conference. ...
