At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,756,126 and its built-up (or metro) area was home to 2,391,738 inhabitants including Khomeynishahr, Shahinshahr, Khvorasgan, Dorcheh Piaz, Falavarjan, Kelishad Va Sudarjan, Abrisham, Kushk and Kharizsang cities. The Greater Isfahan Region had a population of 3,793,104 in the 2011 Census, the third most populous metropolitan area in Iran after Tehran and Mashhad. The counties of Isfahan, Borkhar, Najafabad, Khomeynishahr, Shahinshahr, Mobarakeh, Falavarjan, Tiran o Karvan and Lenjan all constitute the metropolitan city of Isfahan.
Isfahan is located on the main north–south and east–west routes crossing Iran, and was once one of the largest cities in the world. It flourished from 1050 to 1722, particularly in the 16th century under the Safavid dynasty, when it became the capital of Persia for the second time in its history. Even today, the city retains much of its past glory. It is famous for its Persian–Islamic architecture, with many beautiful boulevards, covered bridges, palaces, mosques, and minarets. This led to the Persian proverb "Esfahān nesf-e- jahān ast" (Isfahan is half of the world).
Iran (/aɪˈræn/ or i/ɪˈrɑːn/;Persian: Irān – ایران [ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), also known as Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/ or /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (جمهوری اسلامی ایران – Jomhuri ye Eslāmi ye Irān [d͡ʒomhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), it is the second-largest country in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world. With 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th-most-populous country. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and an Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has long been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia, and its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.
Isfahan is an incredible city rich with art, history, architecture and beauty. The fact that it’s not a commonly traveled tourist destination is logical to me. However, it really saddens me that many people will never see what this city has to offer. To make matters worse, there aren’t enough unique videos or pictures coming out to at least give a glimpse into this ancient modernized city. My trip was roughly 3 weeks long. In between seeing family and friends I tried to squeeze in time to take as many photos as I possibly could to hopefully create something that most of you have never seen. There were some of the places I had to get special access to which took a bit of time. Some of the spots were off limits so a bit of bribing came into play. I wanted to make something that would even g...

@cookdandbombd - http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk Encoded by lfbarfe! Watching the Duke Ellington Jazz 65 show (kindly encoded by Mr lfbarfe), I was VERY taken with the performance of Isfahan, from the "Far East Suite." I've chopped it out to share on YouTube, partly so I can keep it handy. Hope you enjoy it. Johnny Hodge's playing is extraordinarily beautiful, very warm and emotive. If you like this, then check out Demonoid for the full thing.

Travel video about destination Esfahan in Iran. With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of...

Iran – formerly Persia - is the biggest country of the Middle East. Due to the fact that sky-high snowy mountains, extended deserts, verdant oases, turquoise cupola mosques and cultural and architectural relic sites of World Heritage are waiting for all visitors it can be a very desirable destination even for tourists who continuously look for the new and varied. In Tehran the luxurious palaces of Persian shahs, the Museum of Archaeology and the Museum of Carpets and Rugs are the sights that “must” be seen. Yazd and Kerman is well-known for their mosques and bazaars, Naqsh-e Rustam is for its rock-hewn tombs, Rayen and Persepolis are for the remains of their palaces and castles from the time of the Persian Empire. The two most beautiful cities of Iran are the splendidly situated Shiraz and ...

In this version, the last episode of Iran Travel Guide, Mohsen Nazaran , the host of the show traveled to Kish Island. It is part of the Hormozgan Province of Iran. Due to its free trade zone status, it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. Then he went to Tezerj waterfall in Hormozgan Province. Then, to The Borujerdi House, a historic house in Kashan. The house was built in 1857. It consists of a rectangular beautiful courtyard, delightful wall paintings by the royal painter Kamal-ol-molk, and three 40 meter tall wind towers which help cool the house to unusually cool temperatures. The house took eighteen years to build using 150 craftsmen. Then he went to Abyaneh, Shemshak ski resort in Tehran, Chehel Sotoun in ...

During our one month traveling in Iran we visited many amazing places. Isfahan (Esfahan) and Shiraz were one of the most memmorable cities. In Isfahan we visited Jāmeh Mosque, Siosehpol bridge and many other places. We also met three iranian students there. In Shiraz we visited Shah Cheragh mosque and we were invited to local shopkeepers home to meet his family. :) In next video we will show you our day in Persepolis - the capital of Persian empire. One day after our visit to Persepolis, we left for Yazd. Unfortunately all hotels seemed fully booked and we managed to get one night only to visit the city. As soon as we arrived (late at night), we managed to visit the main sights with wonderful views of the Mosque and the Water Museum. We got into the bazar and strolled down the tiny streets of Yazd the next day. Isfahan was our next stop and it obviously deserved to stay longer to get the best of the city and its surroundings. We stayed more than 4 days and still we couldn’t see all of it. The beauty of Iran is that it always leads you where you don’t expect to go, we met a cardiologist surgeon in the Maydan-e Imam square. After a quick chat he invited us to have tea at his uncle’s carpet shop (probably hoping to sell a carpet…). We s...
