Hall contacted the company at some point in the afternoon claiming he had food poisoning. TNA pretty much wrote him off at that point & there are no plans to bring him back anytime soon, if ever. Of everyone backstage, Kevin Nash seemed the most let down over Hall's no show as he's been relatively supportive of Hall trying to get things back on track & has tried to help him. With Hall gone, TNA made the call to put Eric Young in the match & have Samoa Joe cut a promo to take the heat for the no show off of the company. While Joe gave a tremendously passionate promo, the way he framed the veterans of the company didn't sit well with Nash partially because he was standing in the ring with Joe at the time, so the promo gave the impression Joe was aiming the comments at Nash, who then had to stand there & tag with Joe immediately afterwards. The promo wasn't designed to be an "insider shoot" promo, although Joe's passion made it come off that way. When the PPV was over, Joe & Nash had words backstage, which at one point became physical, with Nash as the aggressor. Joe eventually walked away from the argument & later apologized to Nash. The feeling among those I spoke to in the company was that after Joe & Nash squashed things, it was a dead issue & they've already moved on. Wade Keller [PWT0rch - 12/8/2007] If Joe had gained momentum, it came to a screeching halt when he announced the replacement for Hall was Eric Young. That took the wind out of the sails of Joe’s whole speech, since nobody sees Young as representing the hungry, underutlized young athletes who are the future of the business. On the contrary, Young is a midcard comedy act who is loved & coddled by the creative powers of the company. It just felt wrong, compounding the awkward situation Joe had ad-libbed himself into. The match went as planned (five minutes shorter than expected caused by Joe’s longer than expected speech). Nash had kept his cool & remained professional throughout the match. As soon as the match was over, he immediately returned to the back. Backstage, though, things boiled over. When Joe got to the back, Nash confronted him. After some verbal exchanges & shoving, if not a pie-face by Nash, Joe walked away, not wanting to escalate the situation &, perhaps, beginning to realize he took things too far earlier. Behind closed doors, various people in power made it clear to Joe that what he did wasn’t being applauded by anyone. The next day, before an all-talent meeting headed by Dixie Carter, Joe asked to speak first. He gave an emotional apology to everyone in which he said he asked for forgiveness, but accepted that not everyone would grant it to him. There was unanimity that Joe didn’t handle things the right way & realised it. He may have been frustrated that a big moment for him was ruined when Hall couldn’t bother to show up. He may have taken it out on Nash, whom he mistook for Hall’s guardian. He may have simply misunderstood the directions he was given. Or he may have miscalculated the moment, seeing it as his 3:16 moment. In any case, for a variety of reasons, it backfired on him. What’s ironic about Joe’s rant at Nash is that Nash is one of the key people who pushed hard for an extended period of time to get TNA management to take interest in signing Joe when he was in ROH; Nash was a big fan of Joe’s ROH matches he saw on DVD. Nash also has a stellar reputation among TNA management for staying out of their business, showing up on time, doing what he is told, & setting a good example for the younger wrestlers. It’s understandably shocking to those who know his past as a trouble maker behind the scenes. WrestleZone [12/9/2007] Robert Green sent this in regarding the Nash/Joe confrontation at the Turning Point PPV last Sunday: During Joe’s promo, Kevin was notably pissed as he motioned for Joe to suck his dick by grabbing his crotch & flipping Joe off. That could be seen as an angle. However, after the show Joe walked up behind Nash trying to explain himself but Nash wouldn’t have any of it. Nash turned around pointing his finger in Joe’s face & told him “Now that shit was unprofessional!” Nash shoved Joe twice & hit (slapped) him in the face. Joe didn’t retaliate. Nash walked away & that was it. How do I know? I was right there to see it.
