This is my documentary about my visiting to Ivolginsky Datsan in 2011.
This is a holy place near where I was born in Siberia, which is in Ulan-Ude, 100 kilometers due east of Lake Baikal.
Why this place is so holy?
And what is unique about this Datsan?
How a human being can still alive for more than 150 years?
All about it and much more you will find in this film.

Ivolginsky Datsan in Eastern Siberia is one of the major Buddhist temples in Russia. It is also home to Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov Lama, the chief figure of Russian Buddhism before the October Revolution in 1917. After being buried for decades, his body was exhumed, only to find that there were no signs of decay on his body. Now he is worshiped as sacred. The monastery is not just the final resting place for the everlasting lama, but also a new home for many ordinary people. The film tells the story of two young men from European Russia who turned to Buddhism in search of their goal in life, searching for a miracle.

One-armed Buddha's figurine (the victim in the fire in Ivolginsky datsan) was represented on exhibiyion "The clap of one palm" in ZERO LINE gallery – he is turned by a back to the audience and facing a wall with the screen – on the screen video with destruction of statues of Buddha in Bamiyan (Afghanistan) by the talibans in 2001 is shown. Forming of composition thus is expression of the philosophical concept of the Buddhism about a non-violence, release from anger, revenge and indestructible tranquility. Buddha spoke:
"You will be punished not for the anger; you will be punished by the anger",
"Answer always only with good, only this way it is possible to make this world better. Answer with good or don't answer in any way. If you respond with the evil to the evil, then becomes angry more".
The legend says that in times when Buddha bore the doctrine to people, his kingdom has been captured by war, hundreds of civilians have been killed. Buddha has met this news by silence.
Other idea of the presented image is the appeal to a problem of destruction of historical monuments, destructions of cultural heritage which during an era of globalization to become heritage universal.
Buddha's figurine in front of the screen with video is a tribute to the classic of the modern art, to the creator of a videoart, Nam June Payk and, in particular, to his video sculpture of "TV Budda".

На выставке "Хлопок одной ладони" в ZERO LINE gallery" была представлена статуэтка однорукого Будды (пострадавшая в пожаре в Иволгинском дацане) – он обращен спиной к зрителям и лицом к стене с экраном – на экране демонстрируется видео с уничтожением статуй Будды в Бамиане (Афганистан) талибанами в 2001 г. Выстраивание композиции таким образом является выражением философской концепции буддизма о ненасилии, освобождении от гнева, мести и нерушимом спокойствии. Будда говорил:
"Ты будешь наказан не за свой гнев; ты будешь наказан своим гневом",
"Отвечайте всегда только добром, только так можно сделать этот мир лучше. Отвечайте добром или не отвечайте никак. Если вы отвечаете злом на зло, то зла становится больше".
Легенда гласит, что во времена, когда Будда нес свое учение людям, его королевство было охвачено войной, сотни мирных жителей были убиты. Эту новость Будда встретил молчанием.
Другой идеей представленного образа является обращение к проблеме разрушения исторических памятников, уничтожения культурного наследия, которое в эпоху глобализации становиться наследием общечеловеческим.
Статуэтка Будды перед экраном с видео является данью уважения классику современного искусства, создателю видеоарта, Нам Джун Пайку и, в частности, его видео-скульптуре "TV Budda".

Ivolginsky datsan (Russian: Иволгинский Дацан) is the Buddhist Temple located in Buryatia, Russia, 23 km from Ulan Ude, near Verkhnyaya Ivolga village.
History
The datsan was opened in 1945 as the only Buddhist spiritual centre of the USSR. In the course of time the little "Khambin's sume" changed into the Monastic centre with a residence of Pandido Khambo lama, the leader of all Russian Lamas.
It was the residence of the Central Spiritual Buddhist Board of the Soviet Union and later of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia, as well as that of Pandido Khambo lama, the head of the Russian Buddhists. The spiritual activity of the datsan is manifested in temple rites, medical practice, and a traditional system of Buddhist education. The Buddhist university «Dashi Choinkhorling» was opened in 1991 attached to the datsan.
Treasures of culture
Although built in the late 1940s with light-colored brick, the [main] temple displays traditional proportions and ornamentation. The first level is devoted to study and prayer. The second level preserves sacred texts. The third level, the gonkan, serves as an inner sanctum devoted to the guardian deities. The gonkan is surrounded by an open gallery to allow ceremonial processions around the sacred space.

Ivolginsky District
Ivolginsky District (Russian: Иволгинский райо́н; Buryat: Эбилгын аймаг) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-one in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia. It is located in the center of the republic. The area of the district is 2,660 square kilometers (1,030 sq mi). Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Ivolginsk. As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 37,983, with the population of Ivolginsk accounting for 19.4% of that number.
History
The district was first established on August 25, 1939. In 1954, it was split between Selenginsky, Tarbagataysky, and Ulan-Udensky Districts, as well as Sovetsky City District of Ulan-Ude. In August 1985, Ivolginsky District was re-established.
Administrative and municipal status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Ivolginsky District is one of the twenty-one in the Republic of Buryatia. The district is divided into four selsoviets and two somons, which comprise twenty-eight rural localities. As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Ivolginsky Municipal District. Its four selsoviets and two somons are incorporated as six rural settlements within the municipal district. The selo of Ivolginsk serves as the administrative center of both the administrative and municipal district.

Ivolginsky Datsan in Eastern Siberia is one of the major Buddhist temples in Russia. It is also home to Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov Lama, the chief figure of Russian Buddhism before the October Revolution in 1917. After being buried for decades, his body was exhumed, only to find that there were no signs of decay on his body. Now he is worshiped as sacred. The monastery is not just the final resting place for the everlasting lama, but also a new home for many ordinary people. The film tells the story of two young men from European Russia who turned to Buddhism in search of their goal in life, searching for a miracle.

One-armed Buddha's figurine (the victim in the fire in Ivolginsky datsan) was represented on exhibiyion "The clap of one palm" in ZERO LINE gallery – he is turned by a back to the audience and facing a wall with the screen – on the screen video with destruction of statues of Buddha in Bamiyan (Afghanistan) by the talibans in 2001 is shown. Forming of composition thus is expression of the philosophical concept of the Buddhism about a non-violence, release from anger, revenge and indestructible tranquility. Buddha spoke:
"You will be punished not for the anger; you will be punished by the anger",
"Answer always only with good, only this way it is possible to make this world better. Answer with good or don't answer in any way. If you respond with the evil to the evil, then becomes angry more".
The legend says that in times when Buddha bore the doctrine to people, his kingdom has been captured by war, hundreds of civilians have been killed. Buddha has met this news by silence.
Other idea of the presented image is the appeal to a problem of destruction of historical monuments, destructions of cultural heritage which during an era of globalization to become heritage universal.
Buddha's figurine in front of the screen with video is a tribute to the classic of the modern art, to the creator of a videoart, Nam June Payk and, in particular, to his video sculpture of "TV Budda".
