Geneva (/dʒᵻˈniːvə/, French: Genève [ʒə.nɛv], Arpitan: Genèva [dzəˈnɛva], German: Genf [ɡɛnf], Italian: Ginevra [dʒiˈneːvra], Romansh: Genevra) is the second most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich) and is the most populous city of Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Situated where the Rhône exits Lake Geneva, it is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.
The municipality (ville de Genève) has a population (as of December 2014) of 197,376, and the canton (which is essentially the city and its inner-ring suburbs) has 482,545 residents. In 2011, the compact agglomération franco-valdo-genevoise (Greater Geneva or Grand Genève) had 915,000 inhabitants in both – Switzerland and France (< 30mins distance). Within Swiss territory, the commuter area named "Métropole lémanique" contains a population of 1.25 million. This area is essentially spread east from Geneva towards the Riviera area (Vevey, Montreux) and north-east towards Yverdon-les-Bains, in the neighbouring canton of Vaud (< 60mins distance).
Post or POST may refer to:
Lake Geneva (French: lac Léman, le Léman[lemɑ̃], sometimes lac de Genève [lak d(ə) ʒ(ə)nɛːv], German: Genfersee [ˈɡɛnfərˌzeː]) is a lake on the north side of the Alps, shared between Switzerland and France. It is one of the largest lakes in Western Europe and the largest on the course of the Rhône. 59.53% (345.31 km2 [133.32 sq mi]) of it comes under the jurisdiction of Switzerland (cantons of Vaud, Geneva, and Valais), and 40.47% (234.71 km2 [90.62 sq mi]) under France (department of Haute-Savoie).
Lake Geneva has been explored by four submarines: the Auguste Piccard and the F.-A. Forel, both built by Jacques Piccard, and the two Mir submersibles.
The first recorded name of the lake is Lacus Lemannus, dated from Roman times; Lemannus comes from Ancient greek Limanos, Limènos Limne Λιμένος Λίμνη meaning port's lake; it became Lacus Lausonius, although this name was also used for a town or district on the lake, Lacus Losanetes and then the Lac de Lausanne in the Middle Ages. Following the rise of Geneva it became Lac de Genève (translated into English as Lake Geneva). In the 18th century, Lac Léman was revived in French and is the customary name in that language. In contemporary English, the name Lake Geneva is predominant. A note on pronunciation:
Human rights are moral principles or norms, that describe certain standards of human behavior, and are regularly protected as legal rights in municipal and international law. They are commonly understood as inalienable fundamental rights "to which a person is inherently entitled simply because she or he is a human being," and which are "inherent in all human beings" regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other status. They are applicable everywhere and at every time in the sense of being universal, and they are egalitarian in the sense of being the same for everyone. They require empathy and the rule of law and impose an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others. They should not be taken away except as a result of due process based on specific circumstances; for example, human rights may include freedom from unlawful imprisonment, torture, and execution.
Russian Circles is an American three piece instrumental rock/metal band from Chicago. Mostly headlining now, in their earlier days they toured with Boris, Isis, Red Sparowes, Minus the Bear, Daughters, Coheed & Cambria, Mono, and Pelican as well as appearances at the 2006 SXSW, and 2009's Bonnaroo. They were also the opening band for Tool while playing their first tour in the United Kingdom in 2007. Their name is taken from a drill exercise used in the game of ice hockey.
Formed in late 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan and bassist Colin DeKuiper (both formerly of instrumental band Dakota/Dakota), they quickly recruited drummer Dave Turncrantz, formerly of St. Louis band Riddle of Steel.
In the autumn of 2007, it was announced that the band had parted ways with Colin DeKuiper. As a result, the bass tracks on their second album, titled Station, were handled by ex-Botch/These Arms Are Snakes bass player Brian Cook, who then joined the band permanently. The group's third full-length, Geneva, was released on October 20, 2009 and reached No. 24 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Whistle-blowers like Hervé Falciani have helped relegate banking secrecy to the history books. What consequences has this paradigm shift had on the financial centre of Geneva? (SRF/swissinfo.ch) Falciani will be tried in his absence on Monday in the Swiss Criminal Court on charges stemming from stealing client data from his former employer, the Geneva branch of HSBC. It was a turning point for HSBC and other Geneva banks when the public became aware of the case in 2009 and the scale of tax evasion it revealed. The “fine art of Swiss banking” could be said to have been invented in Geneva. Mr. Ian Smith has survived economic sanctions and his illegal regime has prospered in the face of opposition from the British Government. PLEASE OPEN: I was supposed to post this before Christmas but we were traveling so much during the holidays and I had a really bad flu after. I figured I might as well post this to share with you. This video was actually meant for my sister so no need to watch if you're not into Vlogs. If you would like to see a little bit about the Christmas market in Montreux, however, then keep watching. Also would like to point out that you can get cheap travel deals from Priceline and hotels from booking.com (I am not affiliated with these companies at all and they're not compensating me to do this video. I am just sharing my experience since my family and I travel about 4 times a year, internationally). I will post another video tomorrow to show you my haul from Switzerland. Please follow me o...
Leaders of the Government delegation to the 19th UNHRC sessions in Geneva faced the media for the first time following their return to the country -- to explain what took place in Geneva and fielded questions posed by the media, which ranged from the Government's foreign policy relating to the United States, whether or not the Government will accept technical assistance from the office of the UN high commissioner for Human Rights, to the targeting and labeling of journalists and activists by the state media over recent weeks. {Connections 26 Mar 2012}

This video summarises my interviews in the streets of Geneva. See full post by clicking here: http://dewiragi.com/sixteen-things-will-remember-geneva/ I started my round of interviews a few weeks before I left Geneva. I included these interviews into my post on the 16 things I will remember about Geneva. Going down to the streets was fun, and nobody was really rude with me, which shows how easy and accessible it is to talk to people in Geneva. Overall, Geneva is a cosmopolitan and nature-friendly place that I recommend to everyone.

For more aerial drone shots of Genoa, please see Stefano McCoy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsgQjacVyrNWo5vSmjsdAzQ The gritty maze of the medieval city that makes up the core of Genoa is both beauty and the beast. The grandeur and heritage of this once great trading city lives side by side with modern vice and decrepitude. The odious smelling alleys give way to modern and chic restaurants and shops. Genoa is one of the most difficult of cities to describe and is very different from more generally travelled Italian cities like Rome, Florence or Venice. My Grandfathers WWII RAF flight record for those that might be interested - the campaign against Genoa looks to be one of his earlier flights: First Tour 25 June 1942 - Bremen (6.30) 29 July 1942 - Dusseldorf (3.00) 10 ...
Focusing on Switzerland's often-overlooked urban charms, we explore lakeside Luzern, cobbled Bern, spire-filled Zürich, and sophisticated Lausanne. We’ll enjoy eye-opening art, from Chagall and Klee to the works of asylum inmates. We’ll ring a very big bell high up in a church spire, float down a rushing river, and ponder Switzerland's pragmatic drug policies and hidden underground arsenals. And it's all before a backdrop of stunning natural beauty. © 2008 Rick Steves' Europe

On January 21, the P5+1 and Iran implemented the interim agreement that was outlined in Geneva last November, known as the Joint Plan of Action, regarding Iran's nuclear weapons program. Whether or not the JPA is a real step toward halting Tehran's decades-long project is a key question. Equally important is the fact that the JPA seems to embody the White House's larger Middle East strategy. What President Obama is aiming for, according to a recent New Yorker article, is "geopolitical equi

Question: What was your reaction to President Obama's speech this week at the United Nations? Sergey Lavrov: It addressed important issues, and we hope that the stated willingness to cooperate on resolving the problems in the Middle East would help us to find common approaches, which is the key for today's functioning of the international community. Only common action can resolve issues. No one country can solve problems which are becoming transborder, transnational, common threat and challenges for all of us. Question: President Obama spoke about enforcement, about Syria and on the chemical weapons agreement you and Secretary Kerry came up with. Where do you think the Security Council resolution on Syria will end? Do you see some enforcement mechanism being built into the Security Council...

Style/Influence: post rock, post metal, instrumental "Chicago-based instrumental post-rock/metal trio Russian Circles create a complex clamor of sprawling guitars, propulsive drumming, and heavy basslines. They were founded in late 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan and bassist Colin DeKuiper, with drummer Dave Turncrantz joining soon afterwards. Did a follow up on the INC debate and its aftermath today, responding to the posting of a Facebook article likening me to Simon Magus in my seeking to obtain the book, Fundamental Beliefs of the Iglesia Ni Christo (Erano G. Manalo). Went in-depth into John 1:1, 17:3 (didn’t even go on to 17:5!), and discussed the Holy Spirit as well. Toward the end we covered a few other topics, such as a tweet from a hyper-Traditionalist accusing me of “having no Gospel.” We will do another program tomorrow afternoon, looking at a response offered by the Ecclesiastical Text advocates to some comments I made last week.
