Joe Clark
Charles Joseph "Joe" Clark, PC CC AOE (born June 5, 1939) is a Canadian statesman, businessman, writer, and politician who served as the 16th Prime Minister of Canada, from June 4, 1979, to March 3, 1980.
Despite his relative inexperience, Clark rose quickly in federal politics, entering the House of Commons in the 1972 election and winning the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1976. He came to power in the 1979 election, defeating the Liberal government of Pierre Trudeau and ending 16 years of continuous Liberal rule. Taking office the day before his 40th birthday, Clark is the youngest person to become Prime Minister. His tenure was brief as he only won a minority government, and it was defeated on a motion of non-confidence. Clark's Progressive Conservative Party subsequently lost the 1980 election and Clark lost the leadership of the party in 1983.
He returned to prominence in 1984 as a senior cabinet minister in Brian Mulroney's cabinet, retiring from politics after not standing for re-election for the House of Commons in 1993. He made a political comeback in 1998 to lead the Progressive Conservatives before its dissolution, serving his final term in Parliament from 2000 to 2004. Clark today is recognized as a distinguished scholar and statesman, and serves as a university professor and as president of his own consulting firm.

Clark is an English language surname, ultimately derived from the Latin clericus meaning "scribe", "secretary" or a scholar within a religious order, referring to someone who was educated. Clark evolved from "clerk". First records of the name are found in 12th century England. The name has many variants.
Clark is the twenty-seventh most common surname in the United Kingdom, including placing fourteenth in Scotland. Clark is also an occasional given name, as in the case of Clark Gable.

"Lean On" is a song recorded by American/British/Jamaican electronic music group Major Lazer and French producer DJ Snake, taken from the former's third studio album, Peace Is the Mission (2015), featuring vocals from Danish singer MØ. It was produced by Major Lazer and DJ Snake, and written by MØ, Major Lazer member Diplo, DJ Snake, Jr. Blender and Martin Bresso. "Lean On" was released through Mad Decent independently (Because Music for Europe, WMG for Australia) as the lead single from the album on March 2, 2015. It is a dance and electronic song being also described as a house ballad.
"Lean On" was a commercial success, peaking at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It reached number one in several other countries including Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Denmark and Switzerland. In November 2015, "Lean On" was named by Spotify as the most streamed song of all time, with 526 million streams globally. It currently has over 600 million streams. The accompanying music video for "Lean On" was filmed in ND Studios, Karjat and Kaul Heritage City, Vasai in Maharashtra, India, in Bangalore city as well as Stockholm City Hall, and premiered on March 23, 2015. The video has over 1.12 billion views on YouTube as of 11 February 2016.

Canada has changed a great deal since the youngest ever prime minister held office. The Right Honourable Joe Clark, who was just shy of 40 when he defeated Trudeau's Liberals in 1979, is now in his 70s -- and he's deeply concerned about the country he once led. In a wide-ranging interview, Clark explains why he is openly critical of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's approach to foreign policy, says he fears Canadians are retreating into personal and regional silos, and reflects on the decline of the "Red Tory" worldview.

An exasperated Joe Elliott is discussing, and wearily denying for the umpteenth time, the existence of what he calls in a mock-horror-flick voice "the Curse of the Leppards," the apparent pox of bad luck 'n' trouble that has dogged his band for nearly 10 years. The evidence is grimly convincing – drummer Rick Allen left with only one arm after an auto accident on New Year's Eve, 1984; guitarist Steve Clark found dead in his London home on January 8th, 1991, from a fatal mixture of alcohol and drugs.
There have been other, less-publicized calamities, as well. Founding guitarist Pete Willis was fired for alcoholism during the sessions for the group's 1983 breakthrough album, Pyromania. The band's producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, was seriously injured in a car accident during the making of the star-crossed follow-up record, Hysteria, and Elliott himself was laid up with a nasty case of the mumps during the vocal overdub stage.

Joe Clark, Canada's 16th prime minister, was one of three children born to Grace and Charles Clark in High River, Alta. Clark's father was a newspaperman and Joe seriously thought of pursuing journalism as a career but was eventually drawn to the art of politics. While in university, at Dalhousie and U.B.C., Clark became active with the Progressive Conservative party, serving as youth wing president for two terms. In 1979 the Canadian population, disillusioned and tired of Pierre Trudeau, voted in a minority government led by Clark. Despite its brief eight-month tenure, the Clark government introduced a system of spending controls and access to information legislation that were adopted by the returning Liberals.
In 1993 after a distinguished career in cabinet, Clark left political life for teaching but returned to lead the party from 1998 until 2003, when Peter MacKay became the new and ultimately final leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.
Joe Clark continues to teach and has his own consulting firm. Catherine Clark -- Joe's daughter -- spoke to him about his life Beyond Politics.
