Gastown

Gastown is a national historic site in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the northeast end of Downtown adjacent to the Downtown Eastside. Its historical boundaries were the waterfront (now Water Street and the CPR tracks), Columbia Street, Hastings Street, and Cambie Street, which were the borders of the 1870 townsite survey, the proper name and postal address of which was Granville, B.I. ("Burrard Inlet"). The official boundary does not include most of Hastings Street except for the Woodward's and Dominion Buildings, and stretches east past Columbia St., to the laneway running parallel to the west side of Main Street.

History

Mad Max

Mad Max is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film directed by George Miller, produced by Byron Kennedy, and starring Mel Gibson. James McCausland and Miller wrote the screenplay from a story by Miller and Kennedy.

The film earned $100 million worldwide in gross revenue. It held the Guinness record for most profitable film from 1980-1999 and has been credited for further opening up the global market to Australian New Wave films. The film became the first in a series, spawning the sequels The Road Warrior (1981), Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Fury Road (2015).

Plot

A berserk motorcycle gang member named Crawford "Nightrider" Montazano (Vincent Gil), having killed a rookie officer of an Australian highway patrol called the Main Force Patrol (MFP) while escaping from police custody, is attempting to outrun the other MFP officers in a stolen Pursuit Special. Though he manages to elude his initial pursuers, the MFP's top pursuit-man, Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), then engages the less-skilled Nightrider in a high-speed chase. During a sudden game of "chicken", the Nightrider breaks off first, his nerve gone in the confrontation with Max; Nightrider is unable to recover his wits, which leads to his death in a fiery crash.

Vancouver

Vancouver (ⁱ/væŋˈkuːvər/ or /vænˈkuːvər/) officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada.

The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality. The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country, the second largest city on the United States–Canada border, and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English. Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city with over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco, and Mexico City.

The Butchers

The Butchers (also known as Maxie and Murderer's Keep is a 1970 thriller directed by Paulmichael Miekhe and distributed by Troma Entertainment. The film follows a deaf girl who witnesses a dead body being stashed in a nearby butcher shop. Not wanting to take the risk of being caught, the murderous butchers decide to kidnap her.

In addition to Robert Walden and Vic Tayback, the film also features Talia Shire and Donald Pleasence in small roles.

Avalanche Studios

Avalanche Studios is a video game developer based in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in March 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg. Avalanche Studios focuses on developing open world projects and bases them on the Avalanche Engine. Formed after the collapse of Rock Solid Games, the studio has expanded from six members to 250 staff members.

As well as their main studio in Stockholm, they have two further studios: a studio in New York City, that worked on Just Cause 3; and a subsidiary studio in Stockholm named Expansive Worlds, that worked on theHunter.

Since the company's establishment, it has worked on multiple projects, including the Just Cause series of open world action-adventure games published by Eidos Interactive and Square Enix, and Mad Max. They have also developed some relatively less popular games including the free-to-play theHunter, Renegade Ops and Rumble City, their first mobile game. The company aims to begin self-publishing new original intellectual properties in the future.
