Christ Church may refer to:
Christ Church Cathedral is the name of many Anglican cathedrals around the world, and may refer to:
A cathedral (French: cathédrale from Latin: cathedra, "seat" from the Greek kathedra (καθέδρα), seat, bench, from kata "down" + hedra seat, base, chair) is a Christian church which contains the seat of a bishop, thus serving as the central church of a diocese, conference, or episcopate. The counterpart term for such a church in German is Dom from Latin domus ecclesiae or domus episcopalis; also Italian Duomo, Dutch Domkerk and cognates in many other European languages. Churches with the function of "cathedral" are usually specific to those Christian denominations with an episcopal hierarchy, such as the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and some Lutheran and Methodist churches. Church buildings embodying the functions of a cathedral first appear in Italy, Gaul, Spain and North Africa in the 4th century, but cathedrals did not become universal within the Western Catholic Church until the 12th century, by which time they had developed architectural forms, institutional structures and legal identities distinct from parish churches, monastic churches and episcopal residences.
ChristChurch Cathedral, a deconsecrated Anglican cathedral in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, was built between 1864 and 1904 in the centre of the city, surrounded by Cathedral Square. It became the cathedral seat of the Bishop of Christchurch in the New Zealand tikanga of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
Repeated earthquakes have damaged the building (mostly the spire) in the course of its history: in 1881, 1888, 1901, 1922, and September 2010. The February 2011 Christchurch earthquake destroyed the spire and part of the tower, and severely damaged the structure of the remaining building. The remainder of the tower was demolished in March 2012. The west wall suffered collapses in the June 2011 earthquake and the December 2011 quake due to a steel structure - intended to stabilise the rose window - pushing it in. The Anglican Church has decided to demolish the building and replace it with a new structure - a decision which has become controversial in post-quake Christchurch. Various groups have opposed the church's intentions, with actions including taking a case to court. While the judgements have mostly been in favour of the church, no further demolition has occurred since the removal of the tower in early 2012. Government expressed its concern over the stalemate in mid-2015 and by September 2015 had appointed an independent negotiator. In late December 2015, the announcement was made that all parties had agreed with the negotiator's report, which means that the Anglican church hierarchy will for the first time consider reinstatement of the building.
Church may refer to:
The floors a covered in a thick layer of pigeon poo that crunches after every step we take. The sound of Pigeons vigorously trying to escape the rooms we walk into breaks the dead silence inside. The floors of the offices are covered with old papers and belongings. Glass crunches underfoot as we enter the gift shop, souvenirs, post cards and jewelry are littered around the floor, the air is hot and musty. Six year old drinks still fill the fridges in the cafe. This building has been barely touched for six years, left to decay and fall apart after every small shake. Video footage inside the earthquake damaged Anglican Cathedral in the Christchurch city center. The video shows parts of the cathedral unseen by the public since the Cathedral was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquakes, includin...
Filmed by Christchurch based aerial specialists HeliCam PRO http://www.helicampro.co.nz Christchurch Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. It was built between 1864 and 1904, in the centre of the city surrounded by Cathedral Square. On the 22nd of February 2011 Christchurch was hit with a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that destroyed the spire and part of the tower and severely damaged the structure of the remaining building.
Construction was first begun on Christchurch Cathedral in 1038 by King Sitric Silkenbeard, the Viking King of Dublin. In the following centuries the cathedral was expanded until it became one of Ireland's most striking structures. The strong exterior of the building is complemented by the peaceful interior with beautiful stained glass windows and ornate tombs. Many of the original structures from the twelfth century are still evident and can be viewed by taking a tour of the cathedral.

'Magnificat', Walter Lambe(1450-1504), from Music the Eton Choirbook Engliah composer. Of the three leading Eton choirbook composers, Walter Lambe's music has a little more in common with that of such older composers as Horwood and Banester than has Browne's or Davy's: there is often a very limited use of imitation, cadence practice is a little more old-fashioned, and once or twice there are very old-fashioned sonorities as at 'peperisti' in Nesciens mater with its prominent open fifths. Lambe's music is remarkable for showing several correspondences with that lesser tradition of the late fifteenth century. A Walter Lambe from Salisbury, clearly the composer, was elected King's scholar at Eton in 1467; he was aged fifteen the year before, and so was born in 1450 or 1451. Lambe was instal...
BBC World News Lucy Hockings presents a sequence looking at the current transformation of Christchurch Cathedral, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2011. Originally from New Zealand herself, Lucy travelled to Christchurch a year later to report on the reconstruction efforts there. Much of the cathedral though was beyond repair, so a surprising, temporary solution has been found. #BBCImpact
My first Time Travel movie, here I use Iconic photos of the Cathedral in Christchurch between 1859 and 2016 and present them backwards! The photos were all taken by otherphotographers except one I took in 2015. Fair use provisions. An interesting journey through time. We start in the present, as we survey the ruins of the cathedral today and watch it get less ruined, until in 2010 it is suddenly intact and the deadly stillness returns to life. Then we go back on average a year or two at a time as the fashions change and the cars get older and older until they disappear for trams, horses and carts and finally we see the cathedral disappear into a see of wooden shacks and grass. We arrive in 1852, when Christchurch was a few months old and had a few hundred hardly colonialists. Buildings di...

Transcription: No wonder the rowdy Vikings who came through Dublin in the middle ages didnt want to just go through the Liffey, raid and move on. They liked the city, because its seen everything from civil war, rebellion, recession, and the best musical, cultural and literary life. They wanted to have their piece of it so they built this wonderful Christ Church cathedral in the eleventh century. So here we are in Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, a really historic site and it's been changed so much over the years. It was first began in the 11th c...

'Agnus Dei' from Music for Cardinal Wolsey; Missa Veni sancte spiritus, Richard Pygott(1485-1549) Thomas Wolsey (1471 1530; sometimes spelled Woolsey), who was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, was an English statesman and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. When Henry VIII became king of England in 1509, Wolsey became the King's almoner. Wolsey's affairs prospered and by 1514 he had become the controlling figure in all matters of state and extremely powerful within the Church. The highest political position he attained was Lord Chancellor, the King's chief adviser, enjoying great freedom and often depicted as an alter rex (other king). Within the Church he became Archbishop of York, the second most important seat in England, and then was made a cardinal in 1515, giving him p...
