"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here and is universally considered one of their finest compositions.
The song was conceived and written as a tribute and remembrance to their former band member Syd Barrett, and the work was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. It was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes"), but was ultimately split into two sections and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to the album, and to the situation in which the band found themselves.
Bassist Roger Waters commented, as the sessions were underway, that "at times the group was there only physically. Our bodies were there, but our minds and feelings somewhere else." Eventually an idea was raised to split the epic in two, Parts I–V and Parts VI–IX.
Shine on You (Chinese: 青出於藍) is a drama series produced by Hong Kong broadcaster TVB and was first aired from September 13 to October 22, 2004 in the prime time 8:00 to 9:00 pm slot. Consisting of 30 episodes it was produced by Mui Siu Ching and featured a cast consisting of amongst others Bobby Au Yeung, Kenix Kwok and Michael Tao. The series concerned the lives of student and teachers at a band three (the lowest classification) school in Hong Kong. Michael Tao and Kenix Kwok were paired together for the first time since Detective Investigation Files III ended 7 years prior to this series.
Following its first broadcast the series was repeated from July, 24 to September 1, 2006 in the noon time (11:45-12:45) slot, and again from July 22, 2010 in the early evening (17:55-18:25) slot.
Due to office politics Ga Jai Choi (Bobby Au Yeung) a successful business executive is assigned to become the headmaster of a school. The school, (the Samshui Fisherman and Agricultural Workers Union Yin Liang Can Yǐn Endowment Yin Ding Bao Memorial School-WDPS for short) is a failing one having become a sink school for students other schools do not want and is threatened with closure by the education board, however the school was endowed as a memorial by the parents of tycoon Yin Guo Rong (Bowie Wu) who is unwilling to allow the school to close without doing his best to save it, he is therefore convinced by Ga Jai Choi's rivals to send his most able aide, Ga, to be its head master.

Crazy Diamond is a 1993 triple-CD boxed set of Syd Barrett's two 1970 albums The Madcap Laughs and Barrett, and Opel, an out-takes compilation from 1988. All discs are further augmented by various alternate takes.
The box set is packaged in a 6 x 12-inch longbox, and also contains a 24-page booklet.
Simultaneously with this release, EMI reissued The Madcap Laughs, Barrett and Opel separately as well, along with the new bonus tracks of alternate takes.
Two unreleased Syd Barrett songs with Pink Floyd, "Scream Thy Last Scream" and "Vegetable Man" were remixed by Malcolm Jones, and were planned to be released on Opel, but they were pulled, apparently by Pink Floyd.
The album is named after "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", a composition by Pink Floyd about and dedicated to Barrett, who led the band during its earlier years.
All songs written by Syd Barrett, except where noted.
Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Distinguished by their use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, extended compositions and elaborate live shows, they are one of the most commercially successful and musically influential groups in the history of popular music.
Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by students Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. They gained popularity performing in London's underground music scene during the late 1960s, and under Barrett's leadership released two charting singles and a successful debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). David Gilmour joined as a fifth member in December 1967; Barrett left the band in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the band's primary lyricist and, by the mid-1970s, their dominant songwriter, devising the concepts behind their critically and commercially successful albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983). The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall became two of the best-selling albums of all time.

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze
Come on, you target
For faraway laughter
Come on you stranger
You legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon
You cried for the moon
Shine on you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night
And exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond
Well, you wore out your welcome
With random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on, you raver,
You seer of visions,
Come on, you painter,
You piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Nobody knows where you are,
How near or how far
Shine on you crazy diamond
Pile on many more layers
And I'll be joining you there
Shine on you crazy diamond
And we'll bask in the shadow
Of yesterday's triumph,
Sail on the steel breeze
Come on, you boy child,
You winner and loser,
Come on, you miner
