Freddie King (September 3, 1934 – December 28, 1976) was an influential American blues guitarist and singer. He is often mentioned as one of "the Three Kings" of electric blues guitar along with Albert King and B.B. King.
Freddie King based his guitar style on Texas and Chicago influences and was one of the first bluesmen to have a multi-racial backing band at live performances. He is best known for singles such as "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" (1960) and his Top 40 hit "Hide Away" (1961). He is also known for albums such as the early, instrumental-packed Let's Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King (1961) and the later album Burglar (1974), which displayed King's mature versatility as both player and singer in a range of blues and funk styles.
King became an influential guitarist with hits for Federal Records in the early 1960s. He inspired musicians such as Jerry Garcia, Dickey Betts, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie Vaughan. His influence was also felt in Britain through recordings by blues artists such as Eric Clapton,Peter Green, and Chicken Shack. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
Freddie is an American television sitcom created by, and starring, Freddie Prinze, Jr. that aired from October 5, 2005 to April 12, 2006. Freddie is inspired by Prinze Jr.'s real life, growing up in a house filled with women. His lifelong friend, Conrad Jackson, co-created this series with Prinze, along with executive producers Bruce Helford and Bruce Rasmussen.
Freddie, was co-produced by Hunga Rican, Excitable Boy! in association with and Mohawk Productions Warner Bros. Television. The friendship between Freddie and Chris in the show was loosely based on Conrad Jackson and Freddie's real-life friendship. It was reported by Variety on May 12, 2006, that ABC had decided not to renew the series, which was confirmed on May 15, 2006. The show aired in reruns on Sí TV in the United States, and on Trouble in the UK until the channels closed. The show also had a crossover episode with George Lopez.
Gettin' Ready is the fourth studio album by The Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label released in 1966. It marks the transition of the group from having Smokey Robinson as its main producer, with new producer Norman Whitfield taking over Robinson's position. Two #1 R&B hit singles, one from each producer, are included: "Get Ready" from Robinson with Eddie Kendricks on lead, and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" from Whitfield with David Ruffin on lead. Also included is the original version of "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", which would be rerecorded as a hit for Marvin Gaye in 1969. The album was also one of the last albums to contain tracks co-authored by members of the group until the release of "The Temptations Do The Temptations" in 1976. As with previous Temptations albums, several songs are written by members of The Miracles: Smokey Robinson, Bobby Rogers , Pete Moore , Ronnie White, and Marv Tarplin .
Superscripts denote lead singers for each track: (a) David Ruffin, (b) Eddie Kendricks, (c) Paul Williams, (d) Melvin Franklin
"Ain't No Sunshine" is a song by Bill Withers from his 1971 album Just As I Am, produced by Booker T. Jones. The record featured musicians Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass guitar, Al Jackson, Jr. on drums and Stephen Stills on guitar. String arrangements were done by Booker T. Jones, and recorded in Memphis by engineer Terry Manning. The song is in natural minor.
The song was released as a single in September 1971, becoming a breakthrough hit for Withers, reaching number six on the U.S. R&B Chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 23 song for 1971.
Withers was inspired to write this song after watching the 1962 movie Days of Wine and Roses. He explained, in reference to the characters played by Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon, "They were both alcoholics who were alternately weak and strong. It's like going back for seconds on rat poison. Sometimes you miss things that weren't particularly good for you. It's just something that crossed my mind from watching that movie, and probably something else that happened in my life that I'm not aware of."

I first heard this great singer and guitarist thanks to Japanese television. The year was 1969, I was stationed in Tokyo assigned to the Far East Network ( Armed Forces Radio) as a DJ and Sports reporter. The US had long ago returned all the TV broadcast channels to Japan and there was no TV. Sumo was pretty cool, even without understanding much of what was being said. Then, one Saturday afternoon on came this show from Dallas or Houston, with Freddie King and it was awesome, especially as Clapton was so huge and of course he loved King's playing. I had albums done by all three of the blues masters named King, Albert, B.B. and Freddie, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the man from Dallas, Freddie King. If anyone knows who the guys in the band are, please let me know. I've s...

"It's such an awe-inspiring moment. It's such a cool event," ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons says of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. "We came to pay tribute to Freddie [King] on a number of levels and a number of reasons," he says. "We have a long standing history of, first of all, loving the music he was doing, and later, the surprise was getting to be friends and having him mentor and teach us a few things." This is an excerpt from a 13.5 minute piece I produced, shot and edited in 1976, sadly, not too long before Freddie's untimely demise. Here's the story: Freddie was in Austin to play at the Armadillo World Headquarters. Richard Halpin (who, at the time, had an organization called the Jail Arts & Education Project) got Freddie and his half-brother Bennie to play for the inmates at the Travis Co. Jail. The prisoners loved it. So did the musicians. I shot it with help from William McLellan & Linda Evans. It was shot with a single tube camera and recorded on a 1/2" reel-reel portapack. It is funky old video but a record of a terrific performance and selfless act by the late great artist, Freddie King.

B.B. King interview recalls Stevie Ray Vaughan, another great fellow blues rock artist who has passed away. Iconic blues man Riley B.B. King died at age 89. The guitarist, who along with Freddie King and Albert King (no relation) constituted the Kings of Blues, died Thursday May 14, 2015 in Las Vegas, where he was receiving in-home hospice care according to CNN. Born the son of a sharecropper in Mississippi, King rose to fame on the blues scene in the ’50s and earned himself the nickname “B.B.,” which stands for “Blues Boy.” King wrote a series of hit songs throughout that decade starting with “3 O’Clock Blues” in 1952. In the late ’60s and early ’70s, the guitarist reached a wider audience when a new generation of rock ‘n’ roll bands and musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton s...

Please note that the song is in the key of D Major. Best results for improvising, therefore, are with the B Minor/pentatonic scale. Enjoy!

Heaven please send to all mankind,
Understanding and peace of mind.
But, if it's not asking too much
Please send me someone to love.
Show all the world how to get along,
Peace will enter when hate is gone.
But, if it's not asking too much,
Please send me someone to love.
I lay awake night and ponder world troubles.
My answer is always the same.
That unless men put an end to all of this,
Hate will put the world in a flame, (oh) what a shame.
Just because I'm in misery.
I'm not begging for no sympathy.
But if it's not asking too much,
Just send me someone to love.
Heaven please send to all mankind,
Understanding and peace of mind.
But if it's not asking too much,
Please send me someone to love.
