Perth butcher fined for breaching Food Act

A butcher in Perth's south has been fined nearly $20,000 for failing to meet food health standards.

Tom's Fresh Meat Markets at Belmont Forum Shopping Centre was convicted under the Food Act for harbouring pests and failing to keep its shop and equipment clean.

The offences occurred during three inspections of the premises in January and February 2017.

The butcher which, according to Belmont Forum's website, specialises in fresh cuts of meat and sausages, was fined $19,000 by the Department of Health and ordered to pay $2,561 in costs in October.

It is the seventh food business to be convicted under the Food Act this year.

Two Nando's stores in Belmont and Northbridge were fined $20,000 each for failing to keep a clean premises and equipment.
