Midnight Oil to perform classic album at one-off Freo gig

Noted for its breakout hits Short Memory, US Forces and Power and the Passion, Aussie rockers Midnight Oil will perform their legendary fourth album in its entirety for the first time ever at a one off gig in Fremantle at the end of this month.

The 10-1 album, as it's typically called, took Midnight Oil to a whole new level of popularity when it was released in 1982, staying on the Australian charts for 171 weeks.

The band will use the occasion as a special benefit concert called 'One For The Oceans', with all profits to go to charities for reef protection and climate change, including AMCS.org.au.

The special gig at Fremantle Arts Centre on October 28 will come just days after Oils frontman Peter Garrett delivers an address to the National Press Club titled "Trashing our crown jewel: The fate of the Great Barrier Reef in the coal age".

The 'One For The Oceans' concert will be supported by local six-piece and Triple J Unearthed favourites POW! Negro.

Fremantle mayor Brad Pettitt said the Oils concert would be a "gig to remember".

"Midnight Oil's decision to play a unique concert right here at WA's favourite arts centre is further evidence that Fremantle truly is WA's event capital," he said.

"The cause is one that's very important to Fremantle, so we're thrilled to support it."

Doors open at 6pm and the Oils will be on stage from 7.30pm sharp.
