Jeane Freeman

Jeane Freeman OBE is a political analyst, chair of the National Waiting Times Centre Board (NWTC), and a member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.

Early life

Freeman was born in Ayr, the daughter of an aircraft fitter and a nurse. She was raised in South Ayrshire. Freeman attended the Glasgow College of Technology and studied sociology and politics.

Freeman was a leading member of the Communist Party's student wing and in 1979 she became the first woman to chair the National Union of Students Scotland. In 1983 Freeman was a member of the Communist party's Congress Arrangements Committee which oversaw the running of that years party congress.

Executive roles

In 1987, Freeman established Apex Scotland, a criminal justice employment organisation for which she served as Chief Executive for twelve years. She was appointed as a member of the Parole Board for Scotland in 2006 and has also played roles on the Scottish Police Services Authority Board.

In 2008 she was appointed to board of the National Waiting Times Centre, the special health board that runs the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. In January 2015 she was reappointed as the Chair to the National Waiting Times Centre Board.

Background

Aaron Freeman left Ween in May 2012. He played shows both solo and accompanied by Joe Young from 2012-2014. After moving to Woodstock, New York and teaching at Paul Green's School of Rock, Freeman began working on material for a new album. He assembled musicians from the Brooklyn, New York area as well as North Carolina to record the album for Partisan Records. The new band, "Freeman" hit the road in July 2014 in support of the album. The live version of Freeman featured Joe Young on bass and Zach Tenorio-Miller on keyboards, along with Chris Boerner and Kyle Keegan, who played on the album. Freeman was produced by Chris Shaw who had previously produced Ween's White Pepper album.

Reception

Freeman received generally favorable reviews from critics. AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, "If anything, Freeman is a tighter record than McCartney -- it's not homemade, it's all complete songs -- but there's no denying it shares the same spirit; that it is the sound of breaking dawn of a new day."

Aaron Freeman quit Ween in May 2012, citing his desire to stop his long-time drug and alcohol addiction. He played shows accompanied by Joe Young from 2012 until 2014, when he formed a new band, "Freeman," featuring Chris Boerner on guitar, Brad Cook on bass, Dave Godowsky on keyboards and Kyle Keegan on drums. The band's self-titled debut was released July 22, 2014 on Partisan Records. The band spent the second half of 2014 on the road (although with Young on bass) with Arc Iris. Arc Iris keyboardist Zach Tenorio-Miller also played with Freeman for most of these shows.

This Charming Man

"This Charming Man" is a song by the English rock band The Smiths, written by guitarist Johnny Marr and singer/lyricist Morrissey. It was released as the group's second single in October 1983 on the independent record label Rough Trade. The song is defined by Marr's jangle pop guitar riff and Morrissey's characteristically morose lyrics, which revolve around the recurrent Smiths themes of sexual ambiguity and lust.

Feeling detached from and unable to relate to the early 1980s mainstream gay culture, Morrissey wrote "This Charming Man" to evoke an older, more coded and self-aware underground scene. The singer explained of the song's lyrics, "I really like the idea of the male voice being quite vulnerable, of it being taken and slightly manipulated, rather than there being always this heavy machismo thing that just bores everybody."

Although only moderately successful on first release—the single peaked at number 25 on the British singles chart, "This Charming Man" has been widely praised in both the music and mainstream press. The single was re-issued in 1992, reaching number 8 on the UK singles chart (making it The Smiths' biggest UK hit by chart position). In 2004, BBC Radio 2 listeners voted it number 97 on the station's "Sold on Song Top 100" poll.Mojo magazine journalists placed the track at number 1 on their 2008 "50 Greatest UK Indie Records of All Time" feature.

Suikoden (video game)

Suikoden (Japanese: 幻想水滸伝, Hepburn: Gensō Suikoden,  listen ) is a role-playing game published by Konami as the first installment of the Suikoden series. Developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, it was released initially in 1995 for the PlayStation in Japan. North American and British releases followed one year later, and a mainland European release came the following March. The game was also released for the Sega Saturn in 1998 only in Japan, and for Microsoft Windows in 1998 in Japan. On December 22, 2008, Suikoden was made available on the PlayStation Store for use on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles.

The game centers on the political struggles of the Scarlet Moon Empire. The player controls the son of a Scarlet Moon Empire general who is destined to seek out 108 warriors (referred to as the 108 Stars of Destiny) in order to revolt against the corrupt sovereign state and bring peace to a war-torn land. The game is loosely based on the Chinese novel Shui Hu Zhuan, and features a vast array of characters both controllable and not, with over ninety characters usable in combat and many more able to help or hinder the hero in a variety of ways.
