Irmin Schmidt (CAN) - Anthology: Soundtracks 1978-1993 (3CD)
Mp3 @320 kbps:

Irmin Schmidt was the leader of CAN, the hugely influential, avant-garde rock group of the 70s. He has over the past 30 years also been involved in scoring numerous films. Some of his earlier work in this field - typically eclectic and challenging - is nicely compiled here.

After the Can years the keyboardist Irmin Schmidt's career is largely deal with soundtracks. In this 3-CD set, the best of his soundtracks are all covered.

Disc 1 is the best, "verdi prati valse" the accordian work is excellent, and other tracks "pauline", "rote Erde", "qui sait" and "ritas' tune" are extremely romantic work. Other pieces are synthesizer instrumentals occasionally supported by Can's guitarist Michael Karoli. Some works "mountain way" shows the spontaneity of Can.

Disc 2 is more 80's feel, with lots of synthesizers and sometimes with merits, for example, "morning in berlin", "Balance".

Disc 3 contains his late 70's materials which are more experimental, for example, "wallenstein", "Messer im kopf", etc. "Flachenbrand" is very impressive, too.

Can - Tago Mago [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

Can - Tago Mago [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

Great work from the original fathers of electronica, post-rock, minimalist pop, ... all sorts of great shit!

These seminal Krautrockers both obliterated the old moulds while creating a bunch more from scratch.

Every track on this, their third album and second with the immortal vocalist Damo Suzuki, sounds like it singlehandedly pioneered some form of modern music.

Blues jamming, electronica, ambient, funk, jazz/fusion idioms, classical/minimalist elements remiscient of Stockhausen - of whom Can were students - rock, it's all here and more.
