Time Warner Inc. (TWI, at one former interval named AOL Time Warner, stylized as TimeWarner since 2003) is an American Multinational media and entertainment conglomerate headquartered in the Time Warner Center in New York City. It is currently the world's third largest television networks and filmed TV & entertainment company in terms of revenue (after Comcast and The Walt Disney Company), and at one time was the world's largest media conglomerate.
Time Warner was formed in 1990 through the merger of Time Inc. and Warner Communications. The current company consists largely of the assets of the former Warner Communications, as well as HBO (a Time Inc. subsidiary prior to the Warner merger) and the assets of Turner Broadcasting (acquired in 1996). Time Warner currently has major operations in film and television, with a limited amount of publishing operations. Among its assets are New Line Cinema, HBO, Turner Broadcasting System, The CW Television Network, Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Adult Swim, CNN, DC Comics, Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, Hanna-Barbera, Esporte Interativo, Castle Rock Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios.
AOL Inc. (previously known as America Online, written as AOL and styled as Aol.) is an American global mass media corporation based in New Jersey that develops, grows, and invests in brands and web sites such as The Huffington Post, TechCrunch and Engadget. The company's business spans digital distribution of content, products, and services, which it offers to consumers, publishers, and advertisers.
AOL originally provided dial up service to millions of Americans. At the height of its success it purchased the media conglomerate Time Warner. As dial up rapidly lost ground to broadband in the early 2000s, AOL's fortunes significantly retracted and it lost the vast majority of its value, laying off thousands of employees. AOL was eventually spun off, and Time Warner is worth fourteen times that of AOL, as of late 2015.
On May 12, 2015, Verizon Communications announced plans to buy AOL for $50 per share in a deal valued at $4.4 billion. The acquisition was completed on June 23, 2015. In the following months, AOL also made deals with Microsoft and acquired several tech properties including Millennial Media and Kanvas to bolster their mobile ad-tech capabilities.
Warner can refer to:
Jeffrey Lawrence "Jeff" Bewkes (born May 25, 1952) is an American media mogul. He has been CEO of Time Warner since January 1, 2008, President since December 2005, and Chairman of the Board since January 1, 2009.
Bewkes was born in Paterson, New Jersey, the middle son of Marjorie Louise (née Klenk) and Eugene Garrett Bewkes, Jr., an executive at Norton Simon. He is of Dutch and German ancestry, was raised in Darien, Connecticut, and is a graduate of Deerfield Academy.
In 1974, he graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. According to college friend Gary Lucas, a guitarist who went on to collaborate with avant-garde acts like Captain Beefheart, said that at Yale in the early 1970s, he fell in with “lunatic fringe types and free thinkers”. Bill Moseley, another college friend who went on to a career in horror movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, stated, “I think of him as an artist first and foremost”.
Upon graduation, he "tried his hand at documentary work for NBC News" before going to Stanford University to earn his MBA. He sits on both his alma maters' respective advisory boards. After school, he worked at a Sonoma vineyard winery and then took a job in New York City as a commercial banker in Citibank's shipping lending unit.
Robert Edward "Ted" Turner III (born November 19, 1938) is an American media mogul and philanthropist. As a businessman, he is known as founder of the Cable News Network more popularly known as CNN, the first 24-hour cable news channel. In addition, he founded WTBS, which pioneered the superstation concept in cable television.
As a philanthropist, he is known for his $1 billion gift to support the United Nations, which created the United Nations Foundation, a public charity to broaden domestic support for the UN. Turner serves as Chairman of the United Nations Foundation board of directors. Additionally, in 2001, Turner co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative with U.S. Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA). NTI is a non-partisan organisation dedicated to reducing global reliance on, and preventing the proliferation of, nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. He currently serves as Co-Chairman on the Board of Directors.
Turner's media empire began with his father's billboard business, Turner Outdoor Advertising, which he took over in 1963 after his father's suicide. It was worth $1 million at the time (roughly $7.73 million in present-day terms). His purchase of an Atlanta UHF station in 1970 began the Turner Broadcasting System. Cable News Network revolutionized news media, covering the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986 and the Persian Gulf War in 1991. Turner turned the Atlanta Braves baseball team into a nationally popular franchise and launched the charitable Goodwill Games. He helped revive interest in professional wrestling by buying World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and starting the Monday Night Wars in 1995, airing Monday Nitro on his TNT head-to-head against the World Wrestling Federation's Monday Night RAW on USA.

In 2000, AOL purchased Time Warner for US$164 billion. The deal, announced on January 10, 2000 and officially filed on February 11, 2000, employed a merger structure in which each original company merged into a newly created entity. The Federal Trade Commission cleared the deal on December 14, 2000, and gave final approval on January 11, 2001; the company completed the merger later that day. The deal was approved on the same day by the Federal Communications Commission, and had already been cleared by the European Commission on October 11, 2000. Due to the larger market capitalization of AOL, their shareholders would own 55% of the new company while Time Warner shareholders owned only 45%, so in actual practice AOL had acquired Time Warner, even though Time Warner had far more assets and r...

Courtesy of YNN/ Time Warner Cable Aired: 11/15/2011 Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year and now more people are driving than flying due to the increased costs. Lauren Fix, the Car Coach, has some Thanksgiving travel tips. Plan ahead -- you won't be alone on the roads this year. Families accustomed to the convenience of air travel may decide to endure a long drive instead this year to cut down on costs. With proper planning, you can have a safe and cost-effective trip. Auto check up: Before you leave home, have an ASE certified technician inspect your car. Make sure he or she checks for any car maintenance left undone, inspects your tires, and provides a tune-up to help you get the best fuel economy on your trip. Make frequent stops. Stop at least once every two hours to...
In May 24, 2011 Time Warner Cable made the (bad) decision to move several channels from their analog lineup over to their digital lineup requiring customers who desire to watch those channels to rent a (expensive) digital cable box. The channels that were moved to digital included: Travel Channel TV Guide (A really bad move considering the channel was generally used by basic cable customers as a TV guide to see what was on. Digital cable customers already have a guide and therefore don't watch this channel anyways.) Milwaukee: TruTV (Court TV) CSPAN2 Kenosha/Plymouth: Hallmark Kenosha: MPTV 36 (PBS Ch 16/36 OTA)

I visited London for the first time and got to see a musical at the Prince Edward Theatre. Why I began traveling MORE: In April 2016, my goal was to get on a plane to anywhere and travel more. Before then, the last time I had been on a plane was on a summer trip to Guatemala when I was 10. As a lover of adventure, different cultures and new experiences, that needed to change. Since then, I have traveled around the US to Texas, Louisiana and Utah and the beautiful country of Mexico. This year, my goal was to travel to EUROPE. First stop LONDON. Revolution CEO Steve Case said onstage at our Code Conference that we should look closer at where venture capital money is going — not to what startups, but to what states. The investor and former CEO of AOL said 75 percent of VC money went to only three states last year, leaving the remaining 47 to compete for the 25 percent of funds remaining. “So this feeling people have of being left out and left behind, it’s because they have been left out and left behind,” said Case. — Subscribe: https://goo.gl/FRleYo Check out our full video catalog: https://goo.gl/JeqE6e Follow Recode on Twitter: https://goo.gl/n4jVhu Follow Recode on Instagram: https://goo.gl/k8KXjH Read more: http://recode.net/
