Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.
"Nights in White Satin" is a 1967 single by The Moody Blues, written and composed by Justin Hayward and first featured on the album Days of Future Passed. When first released in 1967, the song reached #19 on the UK Singles Chart. It was the first significant chart entry by the band since "Go Now" and the recent lineup change.
It charted at #2 in November 1972 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Cash Box in the United States, earning a Gold certification for sales of a million copies. It also reached #1 in Canada. In the wake of its U.S. success, the song re-charted in the UK in late 1972 and climbed to #9. The song was re-released yet again in 1979, and charted for a third time in the UK at #14.
Band member Justin Hayward wrote and composed the song at age 19 in Swindon, and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward.
White Satin is a 1960 studio album by the George Shearing quintet and orchestra, arranged by Billy May.
Side 2:
The cover of this LP appears in the Beatles' 1964 film A HARD DAY'S NIGHT at the very beginning of a hotel room scene, in black and white, as was the rest of that movie. A bit of jazzy piano is heard as the album cover is displayed, but it's not from this record, but rather from Paul McCartney, who's noodling around on a piano in the hotel room.
The Moody Blues are an English rock band. They first came to prominence playing rhythm and blues music, but their second album, Days of Future Passed, which was released in 1967, was a fusion of rock with classical music and established them as pioneers in the development of art rock and progressive rock. It has been described as a "landmark" and "one of the first successful concept albums". They became known internationally with singles including "Go Now", "Nights in White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Question". They have been awarded 18 platinum and gold discs. Their album sales total 70 million.
As of 2015 they remain active with one member from the original 1964 band (drummer Graeme Edge) and two more from the 1966 lineup (bassist John Lodge and lead singer and guitarist Justin Hayward).
The Moody Blues formed on 4 May 1964, in Erdington, Birmingham, Warwickshire. Ray Thomas, a juvenile John Lodge and (occasionally) Mike Pinder had been members of El Riot & the Rebels. They disbanded when Lodge, the youngest member, went to technical college and Pinder joined the army. Pinder then rejoined Thomas to form the Krew Cats. Back from a disappointing spell in the Hamburg region a few months later, the pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned-drummer Graeme Edge and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964. The name developed from a hoped-for sponsorship from the M&B Brewery which failed to materialise, the band calling themselves both "The M Bs" and "The M B Five" and was also a subtle reference to the Duke Ellington song, "Mood Indigo". Around this time the band were the resident group at the Carlton Ballroom, later to become rock music venue Mothers on Erdington High Street.
Justin Hayward (born 14 October 1946) is an English musician, best known as songwriter, lead singer and guitarist in the rock band The Moody Blues.
Hayward was born in Dean Street, Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and educated at Shrivenham School in Berkshire, and The Commonweal School in Swindon.
Hayward was playing in several bands as early as age 15 when he bought his Gibson 335, a guitar that appears on nearly all of his records throughout his career, and a Vox AC30 amplifier. All previous guitars were "unsatisfactory" and required modification. He performed with local Swindon groups in clubs and dance halls playing mostly Buddy Holly songs. One of Hayward's early groups was All Things Bright, which opened for The Hollies and Brian Poole and the Tremeloes. At age 17, he signed an eight-year publishing contract as a songwriter with the skiffle artist and record producer Lonnie Donegan, a move Hayward later regretted as it meant the rights to all his songs written before 1974 would always be owned by Donegan's Tyler Music. In 1965 he answered an advertisement in Melody Maker and auditioned as guitarist for Marty Wilde and he went on to work with Wilde and his wife in The Wilde Three.

Los Angeles voice actor, vocal impressionist and front man for Mrs. Jones' Revenge, Jeff McNeal, pays tribute to the Moody Blues once more with this cover of Nights In White Satin. After recording an acoustic version earlier today with my band mate in anticipation of our acoustic duo we're debuting next month, I decided to look for a decent backing track with the full orchestral and backing vocal version and man, this one is great!! I just wish it was full length version with room for the rap and the gong shot at the end. LOL. Never satisfied... (rolleyes). Thanks so much for listening and I hope I've have been able to do justice to Justin Hayward's original vocals that I'm doing my best to emulate, here. Cheers.

Guitarist/vocalist Justin Hayward performs The Moody Blues signature song Nights In White Satin from 1967 classic album Days Of Future Passed and I Know You're Out There Somewhere from The Moody Blues 1988 album Sure la Mer. The lyrics from "Your Wildest Dreams" tell the story of a man who is remembering his first love, and wonders if she remembers him the way he remembers her. In sequel "I Know You're Out There Somewhere", the man realizes he still loves her, and vows to "return again" to her. The famed Moody Blues singer/songwriter was live in concert at The Canyon Club, Agoura Hills, Los Angeles, CA on June 12, 2016. Justin Hayward is supported on the tour by guitarist Mike Dawes and keyboardist Julie Ragins.

You've been here forever
I've
I've been here too
They said you were clever
Let's see what you can do
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Yeah)
Los Angeles
(Said I...)
Things can't be easy
You're getting older
The pressure's building
Living in Van Nuys
Cal-i-forn-i-a
What else could I say?
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to believe it
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(The west side)
Los Angeles
You said you were leaving
Heading out to the east coast
Cause your heart was bleeding
And people can be so
But you must remember
That it ain't the weather
That's gonna protect you
They will still neglect you
But I'll always love you
Said I've always loved you
(So come on home)
Said I've always loved you
So get back in your car and head west to California
The sun will be shining
And we could be dining by the ocean blue
Cause I never wanted
Wanted to leave
Said I can't believe it
Los Angeles
(Los Angeles)
Los Angeles
(Yeah I can't believe it)
Los Angeles
(Los fues)
Los Angeles
(Said)
